Chereads / Griffonborn / Chapter 85 - Vidar vs Xenon

Chapter 85 - Vidar vs Xenon

The stone chamber echoed with magic as the battle reached its climax. Though wounded, Vidar met Xenon's spells with his own abilities, drawing on an ancient power.

Xenon cackled, conjuring an illusion of Reya in torment. "Help me, brother!" she cried. Vidar faltered, panic taking hold as she screamed in agony before his eyes.

Seizing the opening, Xenon struck Vidar with cascading waves of water magic. The Griffonborn crashed to the floor, gasping. "You thought to best me? Fool," Xenon sneered.

As Vidar pushed through pain, more visions of Reya appeared, her cries tearing at his mind. He struggled to dispel the twisted visions and counter Xenon's attacks. But the illusions held fast, weakening his resolve.

Vidar falters as Reya's screams pierce his mind, and Xenon seizes the chance to strike. Towering over the fallen Griffonborn, the warlock cackles maniacally.

"What's the matter, Vidar? Can't save your poor sister from my illusion?" Xenon taunts. He intensifies the vision, making Reya's torture feel agonizingly real.

Vidar groans, clutching his head as if it might split open. But Xenon is not done breaking him yet. "Look at you, pathetic! You don't deserve such a gift as her life."

With each mocking word, the illusion grows more twisted. Reya's anguished cries blend into Xenon's deranged laughter until Vidar can take no more. Something snaps inside him—a rage that burns white-hot.

His eyes flare purple and Xenon's grin only intensifies, a gleam of sadistic delight in his eyes. But then Vidar throws back his head and howls, a primal sound of agony and wrath. New strength courses through his body, fueling his magic with dark purpose.

Xenon lets loose a bone-chilling laugh as Vidar faces him once more, wrath and anguish warring within. "Did you truly believe she was real?" he taunts.

Vidar's eyes narrow. "Your lies end here, monster." But unease gnaws at him - had he been deceived all along?

"Search your mind, fool. You'll find not a single real memory of this 'sister' Reya," Xenon sneers. Exhausted though he is, his magic is cunning.

Reluctantly, Vidar delves within. At first, all seems normal - then a strange fog clouds his memory. Frantic, he claws at it but finds only emptiness where Reya should be. Doubt takes hold.

"No...it can't be..." Vidar's voice breaks as Xenon's cackle rings out. The warlock's illusion had woven itself so deeply, he'd forgotten what was real.

Rage and anguish give way to devastation. All his struggle had been for nothing but Xenon's twisted games. With a roar of primal agony, Vidar taps an ancient wellspring of power within.

Vidar and Xenon found themselves locked in a life-or-death struggle within the confines of a dark and foreboding chamber. The air was heavy with the stench of blood and sweat, as the two adversaries circled each other, their eyes filled with a mix of determination and primal instinct.

"So Xenon, it seems our battle has come down to this," Vidar said.

"Indeed, and it shall be your demise!" Xenon replied with a sinister laugh.

The chamber was a macabre sight, adorned with ancient stone carvings that depicted scenes of violence and suffering. Shadows danced along the walls, their flickering movements casting an eerie glow upon the combatants. The floor was slick with blood, a testament to the brutal nature of their battle.

Vidar, his body adorned with deep gashes and bruises, his clothes torn and stained with his own blood, could feel his strength waning. But he refused to yield. This was a fight for his life, a fight to protect everything he held dear.

"You look weak, Vidar. Perhaps you should surrender while you still can," Xenon taunted with an evil grin.

"Never! I will defeat you or die trying," Vidar replied defiantly.

Xenon, his body emanating a dark aura, wore a sadistic smile that sent shivers down Vidar's spine. His voice dripped with malice as he taunted his opponent.

"Vidar, you are a mere insect before my power," Xenon sneered, his voice echoing through the chamber. "Prepare to witness the true depths of darkness."

"We shall see about that," Vidar responded grimly.

Vidar steadied his breathing, the taste of iron lingering on his lips. He had to focus, to find a way to overcome Xenon's malevolent power. With a surge of determination, he extended his hands, calling upon the forces of the elements to aid him.

Earth echoes erupted from Vidar's fingertips, causing the ground beneath him to shake violently. Cracks formed, snaking their way towards Xenon. Boulders and stones were hurled towards him, crashing against his dark energy shield. But Xenon remained unfazed, his shield holding strong.

"Is that the best you've got?" Xenon mocked. "You'll have to do much better!"

Vidar's eyes narrowed as he shifted his focus. He summoned the power of the air echoes, creating a swirling vortex around him. The wind howled, tearing through the chamber with a furious intensity. It whipped at Xenon, threatening to knock him off balance. But Xenon countered with his own gusts of wind, engaging in a fierce battle of elemental forces.

"You'll have to try harder than that!" Xenon shouted over the howling winds.

Not one to be deterred, Vidar unleashed the fury of fire echoes. Flames erupted from his body, engulfing the chamber in a raging inferno. The heat was suffocating, scorching the air as it consumed everything in its path. Xenon's dark energy shield wavered, but he managed to summon a counterattack, dousing the flames with a torrent of water.

"Impressive, but not enough!" Xenon yelled.

The battle continued, with Vidar and Xenon exchanging blows and taunts as they unleashed their powerful elemental attacks. But with each strike, Vidar began to gain the upper hand.

Vidar summoned another torrent of flames at Xenon, but he laughed maniacally as he deflected them with ease.

"Is that the best you can do?" Xenon cackled, licking the blood from his lips with relish. "I was hoping for more of a challenge!"

Vidar roared and threw everything he had at Xenon, but still he remained unfazed, toying with Vidar like a cat does a mouse.

"Come now, I thought you said you'd protect your sister?" Xenon taunted. "What was her name again? Oh yes, sweet Reya. It's a shame she wasn't real after all!"

"No..." Vidar breathed, his focus wavering at Xenon's mind games.

"Don't tell me you actually believed I took her?" Xenon howled with mocking laughter. "You're even more pathetic than I thought!"

Rage and anguish fueled Vidar's strikes, but still Xenon toyed with him for his own sadistic amusement.

"All this power and you can't even land a blow!" Xenon goaded. "Face it, you've lost. I think I'll pay a visit to your village next, see how they scream."

At that, Vidar saw red. With a bestial roar he attacked Xenon with a ferocity he didn't know he possessed. Blow after devastating blow landed on Xenon, who began to lose his composure, his sadistic grin fading to a snarl of rage.

"Impossible...you shouldn't...be this strong!" Xenon ground out through clenched teeth.

But Vidar was beyond reason now, fueled by his anguish and desire for vengeance. This madness would end tonight, one way or another.

Vidar and Xenon found themselves locked in a life-or-death struggle within the confines of a dark and foreboding chamber. The air was heavy with the stench of blood and sweat, as the two adversaries circled each other, their eyes filled with a mix of determination and primal instinct.

"This ends now, Xenon," Vidar said through gritted teeth.

Vidar rained blow after furious blow down upon Xenon, all sense of restraint forgotten in the haze of his rage. Every strike landed with crushing force, yet still Xenon refused to yield, laughing maniacally even through the blood that poured from his twisted grin.

"That all you've got, worm?" Xenon spat. "I'll make you beg for death before I'm through!"

A dark energy pulsed around Xenon's hands as he summoned his power for a retaliatory strike. But before the blast could launch, Vidar battered Xenon's defenses with a flurry of rapid-fire blows too swift to counter.

For the first time, Xenon's smug visage showed a flicker of concern. "Impossible...how?!"

Vidar's reply came through clenched teeth. "For...Reya...and all your victims. I...WILL NOT...lose!"

With an explosive thrust, Vidar hurled Xenon across the chamber where he crashed against the blood-slick stones. As Xenon struggled to rise, Vidar advanced - a being possessed, eyes burning with vengeance.

"Please..." Xenon coughed, straining for one last mocking grin. "Show mercy, insect!"

Vidar's voice is hoarse, but his words carry a newfound strength. "You underestimated me, Xenon. My powers do not bend to your words. I am the embodiment of the elements, and now, I will show you their true destructive force."

With a wave of his hand, Vidar summons a tempest of wind, whipping through the chamber with hurricane force. The gusts howl and rage, tearing at Xenon's robes and threatening to uproot him from the ground.

But Vidar does not stop there. He channels the energy of the earth, causing the ground beneath Xenon to crack and split. Geysers of molten lava shoot forth, scorching the air and sending waves of searing heat towards the warlock.

Xenon frantically conjures a shield, trying to protect himself from the onslaught of elements. But Vidar is relentless. He taps into the heart of the flames, summoning a blistering inferno that engulfs the chamber. The very air crackles with the intensity of the fire, turning the stone walls to ash and scorching the ceiling above.

Through the sweltering heat and billowing smoke, Vidar emerges unscathed, a figure wreathed in fire. His eyes glow like embers as he locks his gaze with Xenon's. "This is the power you dared to challenge, Xenon. The power that will bring about your downfall."

With a mighty clap of his hands, Vidar sends shockwaves rippling through the air. The force of it shatters the remnants of the chamber, debris raining down upon them like a deadly hailstorm. Xenon's shield cracks under the pressure, and he staggers, blood trickling from his nose.

But Vidar is not finished. Drawing upon the essence of water, he conjures a colossal tidal wave that crashes through the shattered chamber. The sheer force of it sweeps Xenon off his feet, carrying him along in its merciless current.

Xenon struggles, gasping for air as the water engulfs him, dragging him deeper and deeper into the abyss. Panic fills his eyes as he realizes the full extent of Vidar's power. "No...I cannot be defeated!"

Vidar's voice booms above the tumultuous waters. "You should have recognized your limits, Xenon. But now, it is time for you to face the consequences of your actions."

With a final surge of energy, Vidar commands the water to churn and twist, its pressure intensifying until it becomes a vise around Xenon's body. Bones snap, and blood mingles with the swirling waters as Xenon's body is crushed and ripped apart. The warlock's screams are drowned out by the roaring torrent until they fade into silence.

The waters calm, returning to their natural state as Vidar stands amidst the wreckage, the last vestiges of his elemental power dissipating. He surveys the devastation around him, the chamber reduced to ruins and Xenon's broken body floating lifelessly.

A mixture of exhaustion and sorrow washes over him. Despite his victory, the cost has been great. He mourns the loss of his sister that he believed was real when it was just xenon's games, the toll this battle has taken on him, and the darkness that has been unleashed upon the world.

As Vidar stood amidst the ruins of Elizon, his heart heavy with grief and guilt, a sudden burst of energy erupted from the defeated Xenon. The force was so powerful that it tore through the remnants of the chamber and coalesced into a figure before Vidar's eyes.

His breath caught in his throat as he beheld the form before him. It was a woman, ethereal and radiant, her features mirroring those of his long-lost sister, Reya. Vidar's eyes widened with disbelief and hope, his voice catching in his throat.

"Reya?" he whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of longing and disbelief.

The figure spoke, her voice echoing with a haunting familiarity. "Vidar, my dear brother. It has been so long."

Tears welled up in Vidar's eyes as he reached out to embrace his sister, to hold her close after what felt like years of separation. But before his fingers could touch her, he collapsed to his knees, his body drained from the grueling battle with Xenon and the subsequent rebuilding of Elizon.

As Vidar lay there, weak and vulnerable, a sinister presence began to emanate from the defeated Xenon. The energy twisted and writhed, taking on a malevolent form. A dark figure emerged from the shadows, its eyes glowing with an unholy light. It was Orion, a being even more powerful and sinister than Xenon.

"You fool," Orion hissed, his voice dripping with malice. "You have unleashed a power far beyond your comprehension."

Vidar's eyes widened in horror as he realized the grave mistake he had made. He had unknowingly released this malevolent entity, a force that thrived on chaos and destruction.

Orion's laughter echoed through the desolate ruins, chilling Vidar to his very core. "You thought you could find redemption? You thought you could rebuild what you destroyed? How naive."

Vidar struggled to rise, his body weak but his spirit unyielding. "I will not let you bring more suffering to this world," he growled, his voice laced with determination.

Orion's eyes glinted with sadistic pleasure. "Oh, dear Vidar, you cannot stop me. You are but a pawn in my grand scheme. Your powers, your echoes, they will be mine to command."

With a flick of his hand, Orion unleashed a wave of dark energy, engulfing Vidar in its suffocating grip. Vidar cried out in agony as the energy seared through his flesh, tearing at his very essence. But even in the face of this unimaginable pain, Vidar refused to yield.

Summoning every ounce of his strength, Vidar tapped into the echoes one last time. His body surged with power, his eyes ablaze with determination. With a primal scream, he directed a surge of cosmic and void echoes towards Orion, striking him with a force that reverberated through the very fabric of existence.

Orion's form wavered, momentarily weakened by the onslaught. But his laughter echoed through the chamber once more. "Is that the best you can do, little Griffonborn? Your echoes are nothing compared to the darkness that resides within me."

With a final burst of his malevolent power, Orion unleashed a devastating blow upon Vidar. Bones cracked, blood splattered, and Vidar's body crumpled to the ground.

As the echoes of their battle faded away, Orion stood amidst the ruins, his victory complete. He looked down at Vidar's form with a wicked smile, relishing in the knowledge that he had triumphed over him.

"Rest in pieces, dear Vidar," Orion sneered, his voice a chilling. "Your feeble attempts at redemption were nothing but a futile struggle. Darkness reigns supreme."

With those cold, heartless words, Orion vanished into the shadows, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair. Elizon lay in ruins once more, its future uncertain and its fate entwined with the malevolent entity that Vidar had unwittingly unleashed.

Reya's eyes opened to a landscape of ruin. All around lay the shattered remnants of a terrible battle - splintered metal, smoking craters, shards of unknown technologies scattered as far as she could see.

Rising unsteadily to her feet, Reya felt...empty. Confused. She had no memory of how she came to be here. She looked down at her hands, turning them over slowly. Flexing unfamiliar fingers, processing flood of unfamiliar data flowing into her newly-formed consciousness.

A groan drew her attention. Across the rubble, a figure stirred - a boy, gravely wounded but still clinging to life. His massive frame bore the scars of battle, and in one hand he still grasped an echo energy of fire, its flame dwindling now. His eyes met Reya's, and recognition seemed to dawn within his fading light.

"Reya?..." he rasped, before collapsing back into stillness.

The name meant nothing to Reya. She scanned the terrain again, detecting two entities amidst the ruins - the collapsed boy called Vidar, and another a short distance away, crushed beneath fallen rubble. Xenon, her mind supplied.

What purpose had drawn these warriors to their ends? And how had their clash brought Reya, purposeless and alone, into this world? She had no answers - only an empty past and an uncertain future in the smoking graveyard that was her birthplace.
