Chapter 3 - They deserve it

"BANGALORE GET THE DAMN BANGALORE!" lieutenant Taylor yells pointing at bangalore.

"Jesus Christ." A soldier says looking at a man with half his head shot off and no arm. He picks up the bangalore arms it and throws into the barbed wire. BOOM! It explodes throwing clumps of sand wire and a dead mans hand in the air.

"HOLY SHIT!" Someone screams as the hand falls on their helmet. "THEY NEVER SAID THEY WOULD BE THROWING HANDS TOO!" He yells as he gently sets the hand down out of respect. I chuckle a little before starting to laugh. Everyone on the little sand dune we're taking cover behind starts to laugh before the lieutenant starts screaming again.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING WE HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING!" He screams we nod knowing he's right.

"Do you think we're in range to fire?" I ask sergeant Lows.

"Yeah I think we are." He says.

"LIEUTENANT!" I scream.

"What do you need?" He says coming over to me.

"I have an idea to get up there with as little casualties as possible."

"Well spit it out private."

"We're in range to get effective shots at those bunkers if we have automatic weapons we need to use them to suppress those MGs." I say pointing at the gun placements in the bunker.

"That's a damn good idea only one problem." The lieutenant picks up an arm laying on the beach and sticks a helmet on it before putting it up above as soon as the German gunners see it they shoot a few holes through the helmet and arm. "It will never work we just have to rush them and pray."

"Sir when are we gonna go?" A soldier comes up and asks.

"Whenever another big wave of boats come ashore." He says pointing. "When those boats drop the ramps we're running got it?"

"Yes sir!" We say waiting for the boats to drop the ramps.

There's some creaking and the unmistakable sound of machine guns tearing into the boats and men coming out of them.

"LETS GO MOVE IT!" The lieutenant screams a couple guys start running through the area the bangalore blew the barbed wire away a few make it to the sea wall before the Germans see what's going on and start tearing through anyone who tries to get through.

The sergeant, lieutenant, me, and few other soldiers start making the run to the sea wall. Bullets start zipping past my head as someone screams and falls in front of me dead.

"GET DOWN! DIVE!" soldiers at the sea wall start yelling as they reach their hands out and try to pull anyone in to the wall they can reach. I throw myself into a dive as a bullet rips through the air my head just was. A couple hands pull me to the wall and help me stand up.

"WILSON! WILSON!" A soldier yells running to the wall.

"MASON!" I yell running out of cover to get to him and throw him to the wall before returning to the wall myself.

"They blew the sand in front of me it was a warning I guess." He says doubling over out of breath. "I wasn't gonna wait to get blown to shreds."

"At some point we have to run up those gaps to the left and right only way to make it up to those bunkers." A soldier says to me and Mason.

"Hey um people are starting to move." Mason says pointing at a couple men to the right shuffling over to a gap.

"Well shit we're gonna miss out on all the fun."

Gunshots from our M1 Garands start echoing with the MGs and that's when soldiers start rushing to get in those gaps and rush the bunkers like a lineman rushes the quarterback. Me and Mason get to the gap and see a couple guys starting to push into the bunker we were under, a grenade goes off and the MGs stop firing.

"WILSON MASON ON ME WE'RE GOING TO THE RIGHT!" Sergeant Lows says pointing to a bunker with flashes coming out of the little slit in the bunker. We nod and start running up to the sergeant. "When we get up to the door I'll open it whoever wants to throw a grenade in grenade goes off other person rush in and kill them all."

"Yes sir!" We say in unison. Sergeant Lows turns and starts heading up the hill to the bunker it wasn't long of a walk about a football field the bad part was having to stay crouched down to not be seen my lookouts if there were any

"I'll throw the nade in." Mason says.

"Alright. Wait a minute you just don't want to run inside do you?" I ask smacking his helmet.

"Hey now the grenade can save your ass riddle a guard with holes."

"On three I'm opening the door in as soon as I hit 2 pull the pin." Lows says to us we nod. Mason pulls the grenade off of a little loop on his shirt.

Sergeant Lows starts counting down on his fingers 3....2. The pin is pulled and Mason prepares to throw it in the bunker. 1 Lows throws the bunker door open and Mason chucks the grenade in the bunker a second later it blows with a deafened pop and I rush in with my rifle pointed forward finger on the trigger ready to kill anyone who is still moving.

I can hear a groaning as I walk past an officer laying on the ground bleeding from his throat. I kick his pistol away rather than shoot him in case he decides to try and shoot me in the back. A machine gun goes back to firing as I lean across a corner focusing on my iron sight.

"STOP!" A voice with a heavy German accent screams he runs out from a shadow in the corner holding a pistol aimed at my head I swing the rifle over and take 3 shots aimed at his chest. My ears start ringing as the German holds his chest and looks at his hand in terror a couple seconds later he crumples to the ground. The machine gun is still firing as I go into the gun room and shoot the gunner in the back of the head. The gun stops firing and he slumps forward sliding down the down wall before falling and hitting his head on the slit.

"Good job Wilson." Seargent Lows says patting my shoulder and looking at the dead German. "Don't feel bad they deserve it."
