Laura's nerves were on a strike and she felt that her whole body had left her. Her life was taking another turn just when she had settled. At least that's what she thought. All kinds of thoughts fell into her head and she questioned her worth now more than ever.
Did nobody deem her important that she had to be sent away? Was she going to be tossed around from home to home? The thought of it made her brain churn. It was as if she was going crazy. She couldn't move for minutes and when she did, it was her hasty breathe that let out a heavy sigh.
Paula finished packing the two bags of clothes and some shoes and carried them out of the room. Her mood was not readable but her heart was deeply feeling for the girl. She had started to have a liking to her but she was now leaving. The ache in her heart was as though a knife had been cut straight through her chest. Memories of her child came rushing in and as she walked down the stairs, tears walked with her too as they found their path out of her eyes.
Arthur walked towards Laura as she coiled herself pushing her back to lean into the edge raised path of the bed. She had experienced the worst blow in her life and now she was receiving another. She didn't help but wonder how many blows were yet to come. How many would she have to receive so to have a silent and peaceful life? Nothing seemed to salvage her from the anger that was rising up her throat and almost choking her to submission. It was getting worse by the day.
Arthur sat beside her and stretched her arm to touch her but when she cringed and held onto her knees tightly, he withdrew his hand as he clenched it into her fist.
"I'm doing this for your own good," Arthur spoke as if afraid of his own words.
A tear dropped from her eyes as another followed forming a stream.
She hated it.
She hated that she had to look weak but at this time, she didn't think she cared any more or less because they didn't.
Nobody did.
They took her in but were now sending her away. More than the other days, her mother's words rung even louder in her heart. "Never trust anyone. You only have yourself to depend on." The words bolted her door to reality as she sniffed off her tears and rubbed them off with her palm.
She climbed out of bed hurriedly wearing her sandals as she rain into the bathroom. She banged the door behind her as she slid her back down the door to the floor. Her insides were bursting. She clenched her fists and gritted her teeth and only when they hurt did she become conscious of what she had done. She had long nails and as they pierced through her palm skin, blood oozed violently and slowly out of the wounds but all she could see was her mother's pain. Her pleadings.
On the blood that streamed itself out of its roots, she now swore that nothing would make her stop and she did not need to depend on anybody to achieve what she has wanted for so long. To her though, it seemed like yesterday. The memories were still fresh.
She stood up as she opened the glass door to the shower. She would have loved to soak her wounds with hot water in a bathtub for hours but she had no time.
She took off her clothes as she ripped her shirt and used the piece of clothing to cover her bleeding hand. She had to prevent at least one part of her body from bleeding because her heart too was losing its strength and she could not help but wonder if she had bled a tad bit more. Too much.
Her heart was hurting her so painfully she wished she was all grown up. Maybe if she had been born in another pack or maybe if she was born as a child of common wolves. Maybe, just maybe...!
Was her fate too cruel or did she offend her ancestors? She didn't know the answers to that which mad her feel even more enraged.
She turned on the shower as she drenched in the water allowing her sadness to flow with the waters. It was going to be a new dawn for her and she wondered how living with the humans was. She pushed the thoughts aside and decided to allow destiny take its course since she had never controlled her life even before she was born.
She stepped out of the shower after she had cleaned herself up. She wished she could clean herself from the dreams that kept haunting her as in persuasion, reminding her of her mission.
She wrapped a towel around her tiny body as opened the bathroom door and was surprised to find Arthur standing by the door his left hand on his chin. It was as if the opening of the door had startled him and he came back to his senses.
"Oh! You were taking a bath," Arthur said as he stepped a distance back to allow her to pass. He had thought she would try to escape but he knew that no one could move in and out with the seal around the house so he had stood in wait.
"Yes. I should be clean when going out, right?" She said calmly and Arthur was more worried now. He could not understand her calmness. He had come to know her as feisty and level-headed but he thought not to pry much into it.
Laura went to the wardrobe and paced her eyes through it as she looked for something to wear. Most of the clothes remaining were dresses so she took one silky tight black dress and decided to pair it with white heels.
She placed them on the bed and glared at Arthur who looked back at her with a surprised look. Did she really want him to go out? She was after all a child.
