Chereads / The Fourth Seeker / Chapter 5 - Moving on

Chapter 5 - Moving on

Silver didn't understand clearly what had happened in those last few seconds. He wasn't able to clearly recall it.

As soon as he placed his eyes on the silver pocket watch, he wanted to grab it. There were no other thoughts in his mind other than picking up that pocket watch and never letting it go.

'I touched it, I think. But how did I get out? No, how did I go in there in the first place?'

He was lying in this place from the beginning and hadn't moved an inch. He had no idea how he went in there and how he got out. He somewhat remembered hearing something at the end but he couldn't recall what it was.

'Whose voice was that? I heard it the moment I touched the pocket watch and then got thrown out of the place.'

'Black and White fog, a house in an unknown place, and a broken silver pocket watch that I've never seen before but I suddenly want to have…'

Silver had realized that whatever that place was, it was very close if not itself related to him being in such a situation.

If this was a dream, then it was a dream gods would see. Humans were probably not able to see dreams of such caliber, to the point where you couldn't tell whether it was real or not.

But if it really was a dream, Silver didn't really know whether he should be happy or sad.

'In all honesty, I don't want to wake up if it really is a dream.'

Sighing, Silver thought back to the moment he saw the silver watch.

'Why do I want to have it so much, I was never really an antique collector, was I?'

'If I want to know more about this place or myself…I need to get back in that place somehow.'

Even if he didn't know how to get in there, he felt that he would be able to somehow in the future. His confidence didn't have any logic or reason behind it, but he just genuinely felt that.

Silver took note of the things he needed to check out the next time he went there and put these thoughts in the back of his mind for now.

Now that he woke up, he needed to gather information and figure out what was happening around him. His body healed up quicker than he expected when most of the people were still lying in anguish around him. He somehow felt that most of these people would not have a good ending.

'It would have been the same for me if…'

He praised his luck for this matter. If he hadn't met that black-clothed man, he would have been lying there without any help, likely ending up dying.

'That man must have helped me…I should at least thank him, He did save my life after all.'

'But before that, What the fuck do I do here, do people here fight wolves to make a living?'

Silver was a blank state when it came to this matter. Being a young master of a business empire, he never really had to ask for anything. His only entertainment was sports. He wasn't into the things the normal people his age liked.

It was partly due to his upbringing which forced upon him things such as athletics, arts, and history and kept him away from all distracting things.

Down the line, he himself kept him away from these things as he never really found them interesting and entertaining. He hadn't watched any new action movies or he hadn't visited the new talk of the city, and he haven't played the latest vr game.

He had read some books from some famous authors as a part of his curriculum.

The gist of the matter was that Silver was wired differently when it came to encountering situations like these. He was like any normal person who would be at a loss.

That is why he would just use his common sense and logic, at least the logic that was reshaping itself to his advantage, and gather the information that would keep him safe until he decides the next course of action.

No matter what, he was in the middle of a place he had no idea of whatsoever. He would have to be alive to be able to enjoy the freedom he always wanted.

He was most certainly dead if it were not for the wolf beast being injured, but it only went to prove that they could still be killed, he had to follow the right people and learn the right things.

Silver summed up everything on the surface level. His next goal was to talk to the people here and understand more about the situation and if possible, about himself too.

'It's just like a ghost possession, but the ghost is me…how scary.'

The sky was bright, It looked like he had spent the day within the dilapidated house and then musing about the same once he was thrown out of there.

The quiet surroundings came alive and people started moving. There was activity here and there. Silver even spotted one injured person get up and move outside.

The place where he was laying was kept a little isolated from the main camp.

'Makes sense…'

It didn't take much longer for Silver to figure out why, As he got up, he noticed the person next to him.

He was covered in bandages like him as well, but the man looked more severely injured than him. He had bandages all around his face, and there were blood marks on the bandages just above his mouth.

'He's dead.'

It was not just the blood, the man's chest hadn't risen once from when Silver laid his eyes on him.

'So I just spent the entire night sleeping beside a dead person…'

He knew it sounded somewhat disrespectful to the dead, but he would leave it at just that. It could have been him in his place yesterday very easily.

Silver bowed once and then bowed eleven times more on his way to the exit. He had already encountered twelve dead people since he 'woke up'.

The temporary infirmary, or more like a graveyard for the unfortunate, was separated from the main camp with just a boulder.

There was this morning bustle all around him, people were getting up and tending to their business.

Silver moved out of the path in order to not obstruct anyone.

He was still wearing the bandages, he had on a bloodied brown shirt and long, somewhat baggy pants with a lot of pockets that were mostly torn.

He didn't remember thrashing himself after he opened his eyes in the dark forest so according to Silver, This was probably the result of something that happened 'pre-possession'.

Silver was walking towards the water buckets, thirsty when he noticed a figure quite a distance away, near the carriages. These carriages were kept in the outer periphery now, being prepared for the journey ahead.

'It's him!'

Although the man was far away, Silver was able to recognize him straight away. He was grateful to him as he presented him with a life saving grace. It would be quite rude to forget the face of your savior, he was raised better than that.

He changed his track and went to where the carriages were kept at once.

"Hello, do you remember me from yesterday? I just wanted to thank you."

The man, who was suddenly called out from behind, turned around and looked down at Silver. He was quite tall, or maybe Silver was just quite small.

The man remembered Silver it seemed as he nodded and then said,

"El kato reha giyan sara khin, sema mela zolo."

"?"

Silver bobbed his head to the side in confusion initially, he was genuinely confused for a moment and then suddenly his eyes dilated and he smacked his head.

'Fuck…how can I forget?'

"Samo murza kelyam pako miza."

"I don't understand jack shit, sir."

Now it was the man's turn to be confused as he looked at Silver, not understanding what he said.

Silver belatedly realized that the difficulty of literally everything went up to hell level almost immediately, after all, how the fuck would he be able to gather information and make a living safely with every word out of their mouth going right above his head like a plane passing above a nomad.

'I have to do something, but before that…'

The gears of his head spun like crazy as he tried to salvage the interaction which was quickly turning awkward.

'Well, If words don't work then actions it is!'

Silver chose actions and gestures since verbal communication was out of order.

He made a move and extended his hands in a way that the man was able to see clearly, in order not to startle him. After all, From the man's perspective, it looked like Silver was still injured in his brain.

Not noticing the subtle change in the man's expression, Silver grabbed the man's hand and shook it thrice, flashing an awkward smile, he trotted back towards the water buckets, leaving the man alone.

The man looked at the receding back of Silver and then looked at his hands, looks like what Silver wanted to convey was picked up by the man.

He put his hands on his back and nodded. He remembered the rugged and thrashed appearance of a boy barely fourteen, limping as he tried to make his way towards the temporary camp. If he hadn't helped, the boy would have certainly died.

Death was a common place for him in this world, if it was anyone else, he would have left them to die. This was the reality of this world, the people showing kindness would often get stabbed in the back by the people they offer kindness to. Helping yourself fore and foremost and then helping yourself some more was an unspoken way of life here.

The man was the same if not a more avid follower of that lifestyle. He bothered himself to help the boy because of what he was, a boy. He was just a naïve little kid chasing his dreams of immortality, after all, why would he be here otherwise?

In the slimmest possible chance that the boy really became an immortal, the man would be able to brag to others that he once saved the life of one when he got old.

Well, it was just an excuse the leftover goodness within the man had used to justify saving a dying kid.

Silver didn't know, he didn't know his whole life had branched off in a whole different direction and the cause was just some leftover kindness of an unfortunate man.

Was it just a coincidence or a very deliberate play of fate…?
