"No, no, like this see."
Jamie's mother calmly explained. Jamie is currently helping his mother with baking. The other housewives were there too.
"Uh..Like this?" Jamie asked as he folded the dough.
"Well, it's going to have to do." She sighed before running her flour covered hands across Jamie's hair.
"Hey, wash your hands first!!" Jamie loudly said as he roughly brushed his hair.
"Oh? Yelling at your mother now huh?!" She smiled but her tone was far from amused.
"Ah, no! I-I apologize, mother dearest." Jamie had already grown to fear his mother in the few days he has lived there.
"Fufufu~!" The housewives laughed as they watched Jamie shake in fright.
"Jamie do you need help?" Mia asked
Mia and Belle were also there, though Belle had already ran off when her mother wasn't looking.
"Yes, please." Jamie sighed.
Mia stood next to Jamie and helped him make the bread stuffing. The housewives spoke and plotted as they did.
"Fufu, looks like Mia will become a good wife in the future."
"Yeah, I just hope Jamie won't screw it up." Jaimie's mother said with unconfidence.
"Hehe, I doubt Mia will even care if he does, her eyes are practically hearts." One of the woman teasingly said.
"Girls, it's not right to bully Jamie." One of them said.
"...At least not without including Mia."
"True, a wife's job isn't only to cook and clean. They also have to be capable in other matters, such as warming the man's bed." They all turned to look at Mia, before shifting their sights to her mother.
"... What?" Mia's mom looked at them uncomfortably.
"Hm..." All the woman observed her body. Before they all smiled and spoke.
"Jamie's in luck!"
"Yes, once they're older we'll have to locate them far from the village." The women laughed and teased. Mia's mother looked away from them, embarrassed and shameful.
"..." Jamie's brow twitched as he heard the women laugh. They had moved far away from them but didn't even bother lowering their voices. Listening to their conversation made the two kids faces redder than an apple.
"Jamie..."
"Just ignore them."
***
"Hehe!"
Jamie and Mia were finally liberated from the kitchen. Their faces were awkward and red. Jamie focused on walking forward when he heard Mia's chuckle.
"What's so funny?"
"Our mom's. They talked about boobs and butts without caring in front of us."
"Yeah, they're really fucking odd."
"Fucking? What's that?"
"Auh, it's.. just another way of saying 'very'."
"Oh! That's fucking cool!"
"Haha, don't say that...also don't tell your mom that you learned that from me." Jamie trembled at the thought of his mother finding out that he knows swear words, and that he even taught them to someone else.

The sun was starting to set. Jamie and his friends had been playing near the village well, and as the village grew darker they decided to go home even when the small lights were lit all around the village.
Jamie walked slowly to his home when he heard unhidden footsteps behind him. He turned around and saw that it was Mia.
"Aw, you noticed me." She pouted.
"Do you want something?"
"I can't follow you home for no reason?"
" ?...No."
She stuck out her tongue with a cute smile. She then addressed him with a nervous yet serious look. "Jamie..."
He watched her as she nervously played with her hands.
"Do you, want to be together at the banquet?"
He was silent for a bit before asking. "Are you asking me to sit with you?"
"No, I-I mean yes! But, I mean, do you want to be together during the party."
"...Isn't that a given?" He asked. Mia was surprised before looking away, a faint shade of crimson blossoming on her face.
Mia had misunderstood. He meant 'Isn't that a given, that we would all be together?'
Jamie looked at her in confusion before walking back home.

"Hey, mom?" Jamie spoke from his seat that was next to the small dining table.
"Yes?" She answered. Never taking her eyes off from her cooking.
"How can I learn to use magic?"
"..." She stopped moving when she heard his question. She turned to look at him.
"Honey..." She softly said.
"It's not something...that can be learned easily."
"I figured. But, I want to know where I can learn to use it."
"...Can I ask why you wish to learn?"
Jamie inwardly thought. 'It's magic, bro!! It's anybody's dream to be able to use it.'
"I want to be able to protect the village. To protect you, and dad."
She was surprised by his reason. Her shoulders shook but quickly calmed herself. She gazed directly into his eyes, his innocent amber eyes.
"Honey, magic isn't something that commoners are able to learn so easily."
"It's something that mostly only noblemen can learn." She continued.
"So it's impossible?"
"No." She shook her head.
"But finding, as well as comprehending the magic formula is something that only those well educated can do."
She laughed self deprecatingly. "And, forget learning the magic formula, we aren't even given the chance to learn how to read."
She looked at him with guilt. "I'm sorry, Jamie."
She didn't have to say more for Jamie to understand. He looked down, his expression showing that he was in thought.
She wanted to cry when she saw his disappointment face. She walked toward him and hugged him. Feeling her embrace, he was woken up from his thoughts.
It was warm. He, felt warm. Jamie stayed still as he enjoyed it.
"It's alright, mom." Jamie spoke when she let go.
He smiled and said. "I'll protect you and dad even if I can't use magic."
She looked at him, surprised that he was fine with learning that he wasn't able to learn magic, as well as sentimental when she saw his heartfelt gaze and when she heard his words.
She turned around whilst holding back her tears. She silently sniffled and tried to put her focus on preparing their dinner.
Jamie chuckled as he watched her reaction. He was disappointed when he learned he couldn't learn magic, but then again, learning magic wasn't necessary. He could live a fulfilling and happy life in this small village. He didn't need to learn magic, if he wanted to protect his parents, he just needed to learn how to fight.
That night, Jamie ate his food with his mother. They spoke about their day, and laughed whenever they joked.
They had fun. Jamie, had fun.
