I stand up out of Erik's lap and start pacing. The worst headache I've ever had is taking hold of me. I start rubbing my temples trying to ease the pain.
"So wait. Just wait! Let me get this straight.", I stop pacing and I glare at my mom.
"You're telling me, that I am this reincarnated Hybrid and that I'm the one who is supposed to kill this vamp Hybrid thing...to make amends for the crimes of my past life?!"
My eyes flash between my parents. How can this be real.
"Is that all?", I throw my hands up in disbelief.
My mom approaches me and takes me by the shoulders. "No honey. There is more."
"Don't.", I back out of her grasp, "Don't touch me right now mom."
I'm breaking her heart, I know it, but I just can't.
"Just tell me what else you've been lying to me about.", my voice comes out colder than I intended. But I make no effort to correct it.
"Ok, here goes.", she wraps her arms around herself as is my words have chilled her.
"First, my mother is not dead."
"Oh my Goddess...", I cover my mouth unconsciously, "MOM! How could you do this?!"
More tears than before spill and I let them. I'm too tired to fight them back.
"I'm so sorry Enya! We only thought...", I hold my hand up interrupting her.
My anger and confusion has taken over, I can't stop myself from yelling back, "You only thought you were protecting me! Yeah, I got it! Let me guess, the next lie you'll confess is Aunt Ally was born a witch too!"
The guilt in her eyes tells me all I need to know.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me.", I whisper and turn to Ally.
"You too? What the fuck?!", I nearly scream in their faces. What haven't they lied about?
"Enya!", Alpha James had been silent this whole time, but at my outburst he puts me in my place.
"I realize that this information is a lot to take in. But you will not speak to your family as such! Do I make myself clear?", he doesn't even need to use his Alpha command for me to submit.
Sobbing, I hang my head. "Yes Sir."
My knees give out and I fall to the floor. My body is shaking from the amount of pain my soul feels. I clutch my hands to my chest as the amount of pain in my heart consumes me.
Erik runs to my side and picks me up. He cradles me in his arms. Bringing us to the sofa, he sits holding me to his chest. I can only bring my arms around his neck and sob like a child.
For the first time since I stepped in this room I hear Athena.
'Enya, please listen...'
I give her my attention and she continues sweetly.
'This is our destiny. The Moon Goddess chose us for this...
Your soul may have once belonged to Annabel, but it is yours now....
You are not alone in this. I am with you always.'
Her comforting words tear down the walls that I could feel forming around my heart.
'Thank you Athena.'
I hear my mom close to me, but she doesn't touch me, "Enya, please forgive me. I gave up my powers to try and save you from this."
Her sobs beg me to look at her. She is kneeling in front of me, her entire body is sullen. Her shoulders look as if the weight of the world is on them.
"What do you mean?", it's all I can muster now.
"When I told my mother that I had been mated to Alaric, she told me of the prophecy. I had to do something.", her body is shivering uncontrollably.
"I chose to relinquished my powers, in an attempt, to spare you this fate...", she covers her face in her hands. I finally understand.
She gave up her powers in the hope that I would not become a Hybrid. Praying that this fate would not fall to me.
The overwhelming amount of pain from my mother hits me. I had been so focused on my own emotions that I didn't register hers.
I had felt everyone's anxiety when I came in. After that moment, my body shut down. I couldn't feel anything else but my own fear and anger.
Her pain has pierced through my clouded state. I have never seen or felt so much agony from my mom.
In the next second I've jumped out of Erik's arms. I sit in front of my mom and place my hands on either side of her face. I force her to look in my eyes.
"Mom...look at me. Please...", the tears I cry are no longer for the lies I've been told.
They are for my mother now. She has carried this secret for 18 years. And, as it turns out, it was all for nothing. I still became a Hybrid.
I know it deep in my soul. It's why I can run so fast, why Erik knew I was his mate years ago. It explains why my senses heightened and I could hear Athena before before I shifted.
As if that wasn't enough, Athena herself proves it. Her fur is pure white, with the red markings and golden eyes. It all adds up.
My mom brings her eyes to mine. I will never get over how much of a carbon copy my eyes are to hers.
"I forgive you...", my cries break my voice again. "How can I not? You're my mother. I...I love you."
Her arms encase me and I fall into her embrace. She cradles and rocks me gently. I'll always be her little girl. I'm her miracle wolf.
My dad suddenly wraps his arms around us too. I feel a tear from him fall on my cheek.
It's strange to think that only a few short hours ago, we had embraced in pure joy. Now we hold each other as if we never will again.
I'm then hit by another wave of profound sadness. This time, it's Aunt Ally. I pull back from my parents hug and look to her.
"Oh Ally...I'm so sorry.", I stand up and slowly walk to her. Her eyes look so broken.
Her life was forever changed too. Her emotions clearly show me how much she sacrificed. For me and for my mom.
She relinquished her powers. When her best friend needed her, she gave it all up. She said goodbye to her family, hasn't seen or even spoken to them in 18 years.
I take her hands in mine, pulling her out of her seat. I don't have the words to thank her, so I just hug her. Letting out all of my emotions hoping that she can feel it.
Ally grips me like her life depends on it. I absorb her sobs and just hold her. Then I remember something very important.
Pulling back I place my hands to her cheeks, she looks in my orbs and I ask her softly, "Does Jemma know?"
Her eyes fill with more tears. She can only shake her head no. The understanding that fills my heart makes me nod.
"Ok, it's ok. We can tell her together.", I whisper.
Uncle Troy speaks for the first time, "Thank you Enya. You don't know what that means to us."
He wipes a single tear away and my heart breaks again for the hundredth time tonight.
So much for the best birthday ever. I went from having the best night of my life, to having my world turned upside down. I know I only turned 18 today, but I suddenly feel 45.
"So what do we do now?", the question hangs in the air. No one seems to know what I am asking.
"Do we leave the pack?", I add on.
"WHAT?! No, absolutely not!", Erik strides across the room and holds my arms, "You can't leave me!", the desperation in his oasis makes my breath hitch.
He pleads with me, "Please...don't leave..."
I am about to try and make him understand we may not have a choice, "Erik, I...", but Alpha James stops me.
"Erik is right. You are this packs future Luna. They need you as much as you need them.", he states plainly.
"But Sir, my being here puts the entire pack at risk. I'm a liability.", the Zeta in me is trying to think rationally.
Athena is not having it though.
'I won't let you leave Finn! He is my mate too!'
'We would be endangering the life of every single wolf if we stayed.' I argue back.
Her one word response was all I got back.
'No.'
She closes the door on me and I can't say another word. I internally roll my eyes.
"I have to disagree with you Enya. You have been training your entire life for this.", Beta Caleb speaks at last.
I turn my confused look to him. "I've been training for battle against other wolves, rogues even. But a vamp Hybrid? I'm not ready for this."
My mom then tells me, "That's why your grandmother will be here in a few days. She is going to help you learn your magic."
"As in your mom?", I question.
She nods yes and my shoulders slump. Great, long lost family to meet. Awesome.
My parents have pulled themselves together and stand up. Dad grabs mom by the waist and pulls her back to his chest. He rests his chin on her shoulder.
They have always been affectionate; now they need it more than ever to bring comfort to each other.
"It'll be ok, she has always wanted to meet you. You are her only grandchild after all.", dad smiles warmly at me.
"Even if she is able to teach me how to use my...powers. We have no way of knowing if he will find me before I am ready.", my argument is solid.
Even if I hate saying the words.
My Luna addresses me now, "Enya dear," I turn to look into her calming globes.
"You are not a runner. And this pack loves you. If you leave now you will do more damage than you realize."
"It's true.", Erik backs up his mom. My gaze turns to his. "Everyone loves you Enya. They would rather stand and fight with you than see you run."
A part of me knows they are right. But it still feels selfish of me.
Caleb speaks again, "You are destined for this fight. Which means so are we. We are your family. You don't turn your back on family."
He's right. If the Moon Goddess chose me for this, she also chose my pack. I was put here for a reason, and I cannot walk away from that.
Nodding my head I tell the room, "Alright. We stay."
Erik hugs me tightly as he let's out a breath of relief.
"Ok, um...if there is nothing else to talk about...I'd really like to go to sleep now.", to say I'm exhausted would be an understatement.
Training 7 days a week never left me this drained.
Luna Lizzie speaks before I can head out with Erik.
"We do need to start planning your marking ceremony. But that can wait until tomorrow. You and Erik need to rest."
Oh yeah. I completely forgot.
