Chapter 9 - Beyond the Shadow

Good teamwork is needed by each party of players for them to succeed in their hunt. They can't rely on one person alone, but all party members must contribute. It's also not just about having good equipment. There are many cases of hunts that failed because of one selfish player who wanted to take all the damage and forgot the importance about teamwork.

It is different in MMO RPG games in general, players just sit in front of the monitor while pressing keyboard and mouse buttons to control their characters. In VRMMO RPG, the player becomes one with their character and all the things they do in the game are very similar to reality.

When a player attacks an enemy with their skills, other players should keep a safe range as far as possible, otherwise... of course that player will also be affected by the skills performed by the player before. Especially skills that have area damaging effects.

That's why teamwork is needed when organizing when to switch with players in the same area, especially if there are several types of attackers in a party.

The skill that Crimine chose for Vastism was categorized as a single target skill. So that skill is still safe to use even if Kirika who is melee type is near the Vastism target.

After taking a deep breath, Vastism stands up straight, controls his trembling, and aims at his target. He slowly drew his bow until the weapon he was using emitted a green light, indicating that his motion was in sync with the first motion skill.

"Haaah!"

A melodious sound effect echoed out along with Vastism's shout. The arrow he released formed a green light path, shot straight ahead and hit Ludvluk's abdomen, which was still under the effect of Kirika's Muramasa> skill.

The HP of a Ludvulk that was still in the green zone was instantly depleted.

Braver is indeed a class that concentrates on critical power. And that's a natural thing. In fact, it should be like that. In one low-level Ludvulk, you can die immediately. But all of that might not happen if the bow user did everything alone, especially when dealing with multiple enemies at once.

"Yeeaah!!"

Vastism shouted with joy. He couldn't hide how happy he was to be able to defeat one enemy in one attack. Yes. One Ludvulk.

One enemy was finally defeated, though there were still multiple Ludvulks left. It showed that their teamwork was going quite well. Even though only one enemy was taken down.

"Vastism, don't let your guard down! There are still a lot of enemies," Kirika shouted. She couldn't believe she had met someone who was so happy just to have defeated one low-level monster.

"Ah... sorry. Then I just need to do it like before, right?"

Kirika was speechless, so she simply nodded her head while saying to herself, "Whatever you say, we just have to get this mess over quickly."

They must quickly clear all the enemies because the sun has hidden its light. Although it was said to come from the sun, the light was just a digital data set created by the system and arranged so that the sun and moon could take turns giving light.

Based on information received from Virtue Station before Heavenly Online launched, there will be a difference between day and night. Monsters will spawn more at night. In addition, weather changes can also have an effect. Moreover, there are events that will occur during rain and storms.

A sense of anxiety filled Kirika's mind. She did not want more monsters to come. Well, although it was good for leveling up, getting item drops, and earning coins.

On the other hand, the death of that first Ludvulk could raise the excitement in the hearts of the four players. Vastism, who was once a bit hesitant, was now more confident as he drew his bow again and activated the same skill to kill the remaining Ludvulk.

Kirika did not want to be outdone. She realized that this was not the time to worry about something that had not happened yet. She quickly formed a stance by widening her legs, crossing her sword to the left until the system read it as the first motion of a skill.

After feeling the boost from her sword, Kirika slashed her sword forcefully horizontally from left to right. Her attack directly hit Ludvulk's weak point.

A crescent-shaped line of light blue flashed brightly and then spread out. It was the one of the eight area-type skills the Cryomancer had.

Her attack successfully hit several Ludvulks at once. Although it did not kill the enemy immediately, Kirika was able to decrease the enemy's HP bar.

Kirika changed her foot position again, she could not use the same skill consecutively because it was still on cooldown, but she still had many other skills. Each class had a different number of skills. Cryomancer itself had 24 skills which were divided into three types, lifter, area, and skills that could deal great damage. This includes the ice magic sword art.

The effect of Neil's skill, ended just as Kirika was about to use her skill. But that was exactly what she wanted. Kirika hurried her movements, making the most of the short time she had left before Ludvulk's attention turned to her.

The skill she used this time was of the big deal damage type. She raised her sword high while bending her body backwards as if she wanted to split the ground. The sword raised high by her shone brightly before ice particles surrounded Kirika's sword.

At the same time, green glowing arrows shot out and hunted down Ludvulk that had escaped the effects of Neil's skill.

"Get out of the way, Neil!" Kirika shouted in warning. Then, along with the arrows from Vastism aiming at Ludvulk's body, Kirika used the skill. Her blue-glowing sword swung strongly, then struck the ground. At the end of her skill, an icy shockwave appeared that twitched after the Ludvulk.

"Huwaaah!!!" Neil moved back with heavy steps. The bulky shield and heavy sword made his speed decrease. "It's dangerous if I get hit."

The Ludvulks let out a distorted howl as they ran to avoid the icy shockwave Kirika was chasing. But that wasted endeavor ended when their bodies were hit by the ice shockwave and froze. The Ludvulk's HP bar decreased quickly until not a single speck remained.

The ludvulks screamed the sound of death together before their bodies finally broke into black goose feathers.

The sounds of items dropping, coins scattering, EXP that sounds like a ding-dong machine, and system sounds resonate together and create a brain-washing rhythm.

Kirika was silent for a few seconds as she heard the sounds of the system. Her brain was forced to think many times over. She realized something. Wasn't it just the four of them who were in the area and dealing with the monsters. Then, how come there were other players who leveled up too?

Not just Kirika, but Crimine also seemed to realize that. Although the system message quickly disappeared, she remembered the names of the players mentioned by the system. Loki?

Meanwhile, Neil and Vastism couldn't resist showing off their victory poses. Both were so excited that they jumped up while holding hands like two kids. They didn't realize there was something strange about the system messages.

Kirika and Crimine looked at each other, only the two of them realized that there were other people in the area. Even though the experience from the monsters defeated in that area could be obtained by other players within a certain range, the suspicious thing was that only that player got the experience, while they did not get the experience from the monsters defeated by Loki if that player was really hunting as well.

"Could he be a leecher?" whispered Kirika to Crimine through the friend chat feature.

"I don't know. It's possible that he accidentally passed by when we defeated Ludvulk earlier. Never mind, let's go back to the city," Crimine replied.

Kirika did not reply to the chat and simply nodded her head as she walked towards Crimine. But her steps were halted when the sound of clapping was heard from behind the trees.
