This story takes place throughout the continental country of Kryos. It harbors a mass of races, such as; giants, orcs, elves, humans, demihumans, dwarves, and many more. The vast mountainous regions of the continent, namely, the Hasgard Mountains of the north and the Great Divide of the far west, harbor a world-changing ore called manalite. The ore opened the world up to magic, a discovery that marked the beginning of a new era.
At first, manalite's usage was unknown. The Human country, Kryos, worked out a deal with the Elves of Lumecari to begin extracting resources from the Hasgard Mountains, starting up mining expeditions within them. Manalite was unable to be mined, remaining unbreakable to the current tools used throughout the continent. Its sturdy nature and beautiful glow of colors earned it the nickname "God Crystal."
The mineral went unused for several years until a flood obliterated one of the mineshafts near the Oro River. The ore vein broke up due to a mysterious phenomenon, which caused the glow of the crystals to dim, turning into a liquid substance and merging with the water. Over time, people within Kryos began displaying bizarre abilities, leading to the discovery of manalite's usage, the ability to use magic.
The discovery of magic was kept secret by the nobles of Kryos, limiting the spread of magic from reaching more of the general population and spreading to other countries. Since the Oro River remained within Kryos' borders, there was no threat of contamination seeping into the neighboring nations. It wasn't until seventy years later that the knowledge of magic became known to the world.
In the year 087, a new ruler took hold of the country of Kryos. King Erseus' reign came as a surprise, overthrowing the previous nobility and establishing his own Church-State. His magical prowess was beyond all comprehension, even amongst the elite. Erseus' might allowed him to rule however he saw fit, as no one was capable of defeating him. He eventually waged wars against all of the nations on the continent. The country of Kryos grew to take over the entire continent, enslaving other nations and non-human races.
Under his iron rule, Erseus even struck fear amongst his citizens in Kysora; his cruelty was unknown to the rest of the country. They all sought the glory of Kysora, for their towns and cities remained impoverished. The knowledge of magic was limited across the country by order of the King in fear of being overthrown.
It was the reality for our townsman, Lux. He grew up in a poor magicless village called Lucina. Hearing about all the fantastic opportunities in the bustling city of Kysora, he wished to set out on a journey to grow his name and send gifts to revitalize his village.
Lux had trained for years in several forms of combat, having complete mastery of the sword by his current age of twenty-three. As the best warrior in the village, he felt prepared to embark on his adventure.
