"Hey Mom, you better hurry up to come pick me. I'm fed up. I am really fed up with you guys. I've called dad severally, luckily for me he did picked my call. Guess what his reply was? Who am l even asking!!" Matthew threw his left hand in the air frustrated. "Hey son!" His mom finally picked the phone, after listening to his voice note. "You have finally picked huh? Well, your husband━he shamelessly told me with every confidence in him that he isn't in town━and that if he was, he wouldn't take me in. Annoyingly he suggested l call you instead. The annoying part of it, he said l should make a choice before his back. Who in heavens name does that?" Matthew told his mother frustratedly. "Sorry baby, but you've got to understand. Ok, you know what..." May couldn't complete her sentence when her son interrupted her with a big no. "I disagree with you, mother. I've been understanding. Haven't l? All this while, I've stayed with grandpa. I've taken insult and beaten for it. Yet you want me to understand? Understand what really?" "Son, l get it Okay. Your hurt and going through a rough time. I'm still wondering why you won't come over unless l come over to pick you. Your not a kid anymore━stop kidding yourself." She broke out sounding genuine. "Everybody knows I am but a kid, how do you expect me to come over? If l do, it will seem l am forcing myself on my own mother. It is,matured and wise of you to take me with you━but how would you know that? When your obviously at the top parading yourself. Your a general in the army that shouldn't make you look so little of me, I'm not one of your officers or trainee. Come home and get me, please." He verbalized. He was already fed up with school, and all the happenings. Everyone had been tormenting his life━that he is a demon, and that was why his parents didn't want him; they decided he stays with his grandparents. Just a month with them, his grandmother died. Now, they blame him for Sapphire's accident━especially Thomas. He was making sure Matthew's life becomes a living hell in school and even at home━since his mom got another placement letter to New York. Life with his grandpa has not been easy, his grandpa is busy going fishing with his fellow and playing games, not been aware of what Matthew is passing through from Thomas━ it is traumatizing. He needed love and care other than his grandpa. That was why he had to call his parents. But yet again, they denied him that comfort he desperately deserves. "Is grandpa not providing all you need or what?" She asked curiosly. "l don't know, all l know is, he ain't my dad nor my mom. You should come get me or I'd divorce your ass━no matter my love for you." He irritatedly said. "Come on!" She screamed. "Woman, I ain't coming. But I'd be on my way, l will be waiting for you to come get me." He concludedly verbalized with all seriousness. "Are you making fun of me right now? Seriously? Fine, I'd take an excuse and come get you as soon as possible night toe." She teased. "I've told you not to call me that again, goodnight mama." He mocked. "I'm not your grandmother." She shouted at him. "When you stop calling me night toe, I'd stop calling you mama, mama. Goodnight mama I LOVE YOU." After a long conversation with mom and son, Matthew started packing.Later, the next morning. When the time was right, he had a discussion with his grandpa━about his discussion with his mother. Few days later━the mom flew to Missouri to pick her son to stay with her in New York city. "Mom I'm so glad your here, you have no fucking idea what I've actually gone through. I really mean it mom━thankyou for coming." He appreciated and hugged her with tears rolling down his cheeks. "Hey, hey, Matt slow down, I'm your mother and doing what best for you is my job━coming to get you and free you from whatever it is that your going through is my concern. And, well, you know; l do not want to get on your bad side that you'd divorce me." She said and they both roared in laughter. They sat down and reconnected for all the lost time they weren't able to do so. After several hours of reconnection. She remembered she hadn't seen her dad. "Son, where is my dad?" She asked surprised; she has not heard his voice since she arrived. "Right here baby donut. Just enjoying the drama you know, I'm so happy you now know your role as a mother━and not make someone else play that role for you." He teased. "Really now? You know l was busy and needed to take responsibility of my position as a general. It not easy you know." She complained. "Hmmmm.... Tell me about it!" He teased. "Like father like daughter, l guess!" Matthew said and they roared in laughter. "Look donut, l was a general when we had you but never did l lose the focus of my role at home, l did my best to be there for you and your mother. That aid the love and understanding━it strengthened us that when l got more responsibility at work and things became choked up, your mom didn't spite me, she knew if l do have a slightest opportunity I'd come running home." He explained as simple as he can not to get his daughter upset. "Dad, I'm trying you know." She excused. "I'll be lying if l agree to that. Your not trying. If you were, your husband wouldn't have requested for a divorce. Do you know how your son has been faring since you became the general in the army? No! Do you even know how he was faring before you became the general? No! And you claim your trying, boasting to people that you have a son isn't parenting. A parent can only boast when they are taking up their responsibility. I was beyong happy when Matt told me you finally accepted him coming to stay with you━don't get me wrong, I'm not tired of my grandson but l just want him to get the love rightly to balance his life. Do you understand?" He asked. "Yes dad." She answered teary. She knew she's at fault but accepting it was just so hard, she allowed pride and self-centeredness cloud the way she viewed things━and she lost her loving husband. She stood up and gave her father a very tight hug, she held her dad so tight and whispered how grateful she was for having him as her father. "l just hope you never played dirty to get to the position you are?" He asked keenly. "Daaad ! How can you say that. I'm your daughter and above all I'm a Christian, don't get me upset." She stated. "l never said your a muslim or a pagan. Even some muslims do live upright and so do some pagans, all I'm saying is that you never compromise your faith, principle and discipline. Those FPD are your keys to good life. Alright?" He said, satisfied with everything that had just happened "Yes dad, I'll apply all you've said." She stated cheerfully. "Group hug!!" Matthias said and hurried to them. They hugged for some few minute━and got discharged when Matthew asked the mom if she's getting her husband back. "Well...w...eell... Ma..ybe, I'll l guess; but first thing first, we'd leave tomorrow. Let spend some time with grandpa." She declared and went in to change. "Are you sure your responsibility can wait?" Matthew and the grandpa asked at the same time. "You guys should just mind your business. I'd change and come right down to prepare dinner." She verbalized and rushed to her room. Seeing how the outside did look the same of the six years she left, she knew inside of her room will be the same as she left it as well. She opened it, surprisingly it wasn't. She hmmm at the room and closed the door behind her. Matthew and Mr. Freeman sat on the couch munching some biscuits. " Seriously guys! Your both here munching some biscuit? You couldn't even start the cooking for me." She asked in a serious tune. "We don't know if your responsibility allows you to cook baby donut, so you see, we have no idea what you'd cook. If you'd fry eggs, or just boil water; or slice fruit━come, sit next to me." He said waving his right hand at her. She walked towards the couch and sat next to her dad. "Dad, are you trying to insinuate l can't cook?" She asked feeling pissed. "l didn't really say so, but since you know you can't━that is why you agreed to come seat down. Action really do speak louder than voice." The dad teased. Matthew burst out with laughter, at this point tears were dancing down his cheeks."Mom, is it Okay before we leave tomorrow we go see Sapphire?" Matthew pleaded. "Who is she?" She asked curiously. "My classmate, she got into an accident━she has been unconscious for seven months now, hopefully she'd wake up today or anytime soon." He replied May with a sad voice. "Sure, it sounds as if you do like this Sapphire of a person. I hope she's as beautiful as her name." The mom taunt. Matthew nodded his head and smiled cheerfully. Wishing Sapphire will really wake up and he'd apologize for doing what he did. Maybe it was really his fault, maybe it was because of him she had the accident or something━including the fact her parents were accidently killed, her brother has disappeared. He just hope she won't die out of shock when she comes out of coma, only to find out all the people she has and ever loved in her life has been taken away from her ━from a careless commissioner. It so sad and annoying that he wasn't punished for it.How can a commissioner commit such mistake, he didn't just start his job. He has been in that job for a very long time, infact; for him to be in the position of a commissioner shows it. "Matt! We will go see your girl tomorrow. Ok?" May teased. "Come on mom, she is not my girl." Matthew gladly responded.
