Based on the Son of Heaven's previous behavior, he couldn't see past the magic spells circle into the darkness. Thus, he was in the dark while his enemies knew his position, leaving him only with the option to take a defensive role.

The Son of Heaven was now stationary, relying on the transparent barrier to block all incoming attacks.
