"Okay." I let him through my room to meet Jackie downstairs.
Without taking away his mysterious crooked smile, Justin strode off first, I followed behind warily. I licked my lips which are a little dry due to nervousness. What if he actually dared to face Jackie and take her heart?
Gosh, it's true what my new friends say. He has all kinds of devious ways to toy with the lives of Graham Bell High School students. If that's the case, I'm sorry I ever threw an 'eww' mumble and challenged him to the karate practice arena.
As he walked through the living room, we ran into Jackie, about to head upstairs. Jackie's face showed surprise when she saw Justin: her pupils dilated. Not yet, I could feel the gastric juices stuck in my throat.
"Justin Lancaster." Jackie gave her a friendly smile, then hugged Justin and kissed him on both cheeks when she was met with someone she considered equal.
Wait... what?!
"How did you get here?" Jackie's gaze turned to me asking for an explanation. I should be the one giving that view! How did Jackie get to know Justin??
Justin, as usual, responded to Jackie's question with a crooked smile. I need to swallow hard to see the positive signals between them. Dead already!
"We're friends. Incidentally, I'm here to talk about homework with Daphne." Justin glanced at me, giving a 'See? I'm flawless. You're welcome' through the corner of his sharp eyes.
Still looking in disbelief, Jackie touched her chest. "Looks like you two are close. I thought Daphne was having a hard time adapting to her school. Just now the principal called me, telling me about Daphne's impudent attitude..." Jackie's expression turned to horror when he said that. My bad luck piled up and was ready to melt on the floor. "I like it when she gets along with you. You can keep an eye on her at school, right?
