Chapter 1 - Welcome to Hell (a)

DAPHNE'S LIFE

Do YOU know what two words are the scariest in the world?

I'm a princess.

Yes. Those are the two most terrifying words in the entire universe to me. I'm a princess. Someone who lives in a magnificent palace like in England. The history of how I became a princess began when my mother's funeral took place two days ago. A man in a formal suit who was escorted by a well-built man with dark glasses came to my house saying,

"Daphne, let's go with Dad. You will be the second princess in Luisa."

If I had epilepsy, I might convulse on the floor. The man who said those cursed words is my father. Robert Devon Hilgard now gets the Westlake name frill on the back. After divorcing my mother, he married a queen on the island of Luisa, Queen Jacqueline—I prefer to call her Jackie. Luisa Island is a small island very, very far from the neighboring countries—Norway and England. I've never been there in my life. And Dad promised to take me there to be introduced to Luisa's people after I learned manners in LA (people call it Los Angeles, but I call it Lost Angels). Why LA? Uhm… The Luisa Kingdom has very good bilateral relations with the USA. And, you could say LA is a sister city of one of the cities in Luisa, Sune, which have something in common.

And yes, congratulations. This is where I am. A megapolitan city with a dense population and skyscrapers that stand like challenging the sky. Los Angeles. The place where I learned manners is one of the mansions belonging to the Luisa royal family.

Hi. My name is Daphne Lane. I am a miserable seventeen-year-old teenager who now lives with my stepmother, Queen Jacqueline II in a magnificent mansion with imperial architecture inhabited by hundreds of living people. The rest were probably dying humans who couldn't stand the rules of this place. I'm part of that dying man.

I've only been here one day, I've been made critical. Because everything I do must be calculated. I can't do this and that, if I violate, Jackie threatens to punish me. Because I just arrived at his perfect life, then Jackie still tolerates the mistakes I made.

"Daph," Dad calls my name as we enter my new room. The servants in this mansion have put my luggage beside the king-size bed.
