Chapter 28 - "I was stupid."

"Wu-wu-wu, gege..."

A little girl's crying echoed in his ears. The long eyelashes started to flutter revealing the clear amber eyes. His half-opened eyes shifted toward the crying sound in confusion. He had a small smile as he saw Xiao Feng stop crying in an instant when she saw him awake. His hand was then placed onto her little head and patted a few times. His eyes started moving around again and realized that he was in the base's hospital ward.

"Gege... Why did you go out by yourself?" Xiao Feng's cute little face started to scrunch up. She spoke up with a pout. The snots and tears that she tried to hold back made her look quite funny. He suppressed his urge to laugh and rubbed her head reassuredly.

"Don't worry, your gege is not weak. I even defeated the strongest zombie in the world!" At least the world would be a bit more peaceful before all the mutations in plants and animals spread.

"I don't care! I only want my gege to be safe!" Her eyes were firey, they actually scared him a little.

He tried coaxing his little sister and then realized a presence was missing from his side. The hospital ward only had him and his sister so it seemed like there were no injuries. However, the sticky husband of his was nowhere to be seen. He immediately sat up with a contorted face.

"Where's my hus- Where's Guang-ge?"

He hurriedly got off the bed and was about to walk out when Yang Huifang appeared. She flinched at his sudden appearance before calming down. Her eyes moved up and down to examine his condition before pushing him back to the hospital bed. Changming raised one of his eyebrows in confusion.

"Xiao Ming, you should rest before visiting Guang-ge."

"Jiejie, what happened? Did he get caught in the zombie siege?"

His hands were clasping together as they rested on his lap, looking closely, they were shaking expressing his nervousness and anxiety. Yang Huifang saw that and sighed at the poor boy. She shook her head.

"Guang-ge... He left the base to find you. And when he came back with you, he suddenly collapsed. The doctors and other healers said that he overused his power and is currently in a coma. I-I don't know when he will wake up."

"W-What?" Not believing what she said, he shot out of the room. The objections from the two girls in the room could be heard clearly but it all sounded static to him at this moment. The sound of bare feet running in the hospital ward echoed. He frantically asked around for his location before getting into another special treatment room.

"Zhong Guang..."

Standing at the door, a silently laying figure appeared. Tons of wires were connected to him as they monitor his heart rate and provided him with nutrients. The face was bare with no mask on. Changming's steps became heavy and he felt like he could not breathe. Slowly approaching him, his hand reached out to touch the peaceful sleeping face.

"Zhong Guang..."

His thumb rubbed the man's cheek gently. Tears were welling up in his eyes. This suffocating feeling to see the person you loved getting hurt was too much. Like thousands of needles stabbed in his heart at the same time.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I was stupid. I'm sorry..."

So this was what it felt like to have your heart broken. He regretted his rash and immature decision so much. He should not have gone out without saying a word to him. He should not have underestimated his love for him.

Ren Jian was sweet and caring because he had the memory of the 1000th world. Therefore, Yongliang never believed that his love was more than a projection of old memories, however, he still had a great life with Ren Jian and genuinely fell in love. Knowing that the man would lose his memories, he was insecure and scared that their love had already met an end and it would dwindle through time. Especially with the heroic male lead, Zhong Guang sacrificed himself many times for the people, Changming was scared of competing with others for the position in his heart. That was why he could easily leave and feel that Zhong Guang would, for sure, stay and protect the base. That was what happened in the original plot when the female lead traveled to another base and Zhong Guang stayed back.

There were so many new experiences that he had never had before in manual mode. His predictions were always off when it involved his husband. Changming shakily grabbed Zhong Guang's hand. A tear dripped down his chin and touched the back of the unconscious hand. A soft kiss was placed on it. He promised himself and Zhong Guang that it would never happen again. Who knew what 'it' here meant?

-------------------------------------

There was a clanking sound of glasses inside a white room. Sunlight was pouring in giving the room warmth like spring met winter. The humming of a familiar melody resonated at the end of the bed.

The heavy eyelids started to blink slowly. His eyes were unfocused as he looked at the clean-cut person facing his back to him. However, it seemed like he already knew who it was.

A light movement made a quiet sound that made the person who was changing the tulips in the vase whip his head back. The face that lost some colors and the eyes that lost their light began to regain vitality. The amber eyes shined with moisture and turned into a beautiful crescent. He immediately ran to the bed.

He pushed the button at the head of the bed and yelled.

"Doctor! Doctor! Zhong Guang woke up!"

Changming held the weak hand that was covered with tubes and needles tightly. He was trying to restrain the tears from falling down. The smile on his face blossomed brightly with happiness.

In a few minutes, Changming was escorted out of the room for the doctors to examine his condition. The intubation tube was removed as well as some other wires connected to the body. After being checked, Zhong Guang murmured a name with a hoarse voice and fell asleep again.

When he opened his eyes, he had a smile on his face.

"Mingming..."

Zhong Guang spread out his arms and Changming instantly dove right into the embrace. They hugged each other so tight that there was no gap between their bodies. Changming was in his favorite position again with him on top of Zhong Guang. He let out a silent cry.

Zhong Guang softened at this appearance and wiped away the tears. He asked in a dry voice due to the intubation's damage to his vocal cords. Thankfully, he was an ability user so it did not affect him too badly. The healers had grown strong enough to also fix this problem.

"How long have I been sleeping?"

He wanted to kiss Changming but he was worried that his breath might stink if he had slept for too long. Changming did not lift his head up but continued to cry. After that long session, he whispered into Zhong Guang's ears.

"3 years... You were in a coma for 3 years."
