Chereads / Seven Layers of Hell / Chapter 8 - Her Name is Renik

Chapter 8 - Her Name is Renik

Jane arrived at L-07, where all humans who previously lived in Nusantara were now transferred to this top layer of soil. When the survivors were dragged to this place, the majority of people still tried their best to fight back, to return to Nusantara, and not to submit to the wrena who kept wanting to destroy them.

However, three months later, their spirits began to fade. Especially after knowing that nothing will allow them to defeat the Senior Workers who came from L-3.5. Jane had seen all of it in her whole new life on this annoying layer. She didn't reveal who she was, she didn't want to interfere in all that struggle before she really saw the seriousness between all these people.

In the end, they gave up too.

They instead follow a system that the wrenas said had been there before. The system of the division of life is a system that separates Confectionery, Workers, and Primary. Confectioners are those in the middle of the city, where everyone lives their life, breeds, and eats modestly.

The majority of the people living in the Confectioners area can be forcibly taken, sold, and given directly to L-06, the main location for the wrena market. Second, Workers are the standard designation for those who live in the outermost part of the city, those who register, organize, and ensure that all food items are worthy of sale; those who regulate the running of the economy in L-07. Lastly, is the Primary: the main ingredient, the most expensive food, and the owner of the best meat. They are people who sincerely accept destiny and decide to become recluses. They live at the back of the city, covered by the wilderness and directly opposite the ocean. They spend the majority of their lives in meditation, eat minimal but clean food, and will voluntarily surrender to the Workers.

They said, good meat is maintained for a month, three months, six months, or a whole year. They, those ascetics, were the kind of meat that would only be served to Senior Workers at L-3.5 or even to Candrasas and the Queen.

Jane had never entered the general area of L-07 and had always sneaked through the forest, ever since all the humans of the former ruler established the system. She was too lazy to interfere, and working alone was also very difficult.

She's not that good at being kind to everyone.

"You got caught again?" Someone scolded when Jane had just arrived at the face of the cave, in the wilderness, the place where Primary humans were imprisoned.

Jane chuckled at that. "But I managed to escape, didn't I?" she said casually. "Everything is fine, Renik. There's nothing to worry about."

"You've been missing for a week, Jane."

"Forgive me."

Jane stepped inside when Renik stopped answering her words. Renik is the name of a little girl who used to follow her when she just arrived at L-07. At first she kept pushing Renik away, but in the end, they got close too.

For whatever reason, Renik never wanted to be separated from her. But this 12-year-old girl simply said that Jane was just like her sister, and that she had no one to live with.

Following her heart, Jane finally became close friends with this little girl.

It turns out that Renik has been learning to make bombs for a year, even though she hasn't met Jane. All her experiments on bombs also saved Jane every time she had to travel to another layer of soil for information.

Usually, Jane didn't stay out of the news for too long, even though she rarely visited Renik. However, in the past week, she admits that she has gone too far by not contacting Renik for a week.

Luckily, the cave where Renik lives is fine, and she is still safe.

Little girls like her are very vulnerable to kidnapping in this layer of soil. That's also why Jane never wanted to take Renik out of the wilderness.

Renik has a fresher body than other children of her age. She also has clean skin. She doesn't have any diseases or things that make her value as a food item decrease drastically. This also made Jane believe that if Renik was caught, she would not only be used as food but also be forced to breed.

Jane never wanted that to happen.

She knows that there are many cases of children being forced to become pregnant and give birth in order to increase food intake. Moreover, baby meat is considered to be more hygienic than other types of meat. The quality is almost the same as primary human meat, but it has a much cheaper price.

"You brought my order, Jane?" reprimanded Renik without turning to look at Jane, who had just entered their underground house.

Jane handed this little girl the weekly newspaper. Renik had just opened it when she realized that a new page had formed at the back of the newspaper. If the internet is used as a practical means of disseminating information in Nusantara, the wrena use their special magic to add news to the weekly newspaper if there is unexpectedly big news after the newspaper is printed.

"Looks like this just happened a few minutes ago," muttered Renik, immediately turning the newspaper page to the very end, and finding a photo of a news story that had just happened.

It was a photo of a girl naked and hanging from the Distribution Pole. There was a hole in the top of her head, and the hole was releasing red rain that slowly started to cover her naked body. Jane peered as she just sat beside Renik's small body, her eyes focused on the news about [Blood that returned to save the fugitives of the traitor of the Queen].

"He started to move because of the news, it seems," Jane muttered, making Renik look at her.

"What news?"

"They said they would drag the Earth lings here in a few months."

"They?"

"I saw so many faces of Hindia on the way here. The Candrasas seem to be starting to move." Jane leaned her back against the head of the sofa with a faint smile and said, "The fugitives seem to have started to show themselves after hearing the news."

"You're not coming?"

Jane turned and looked at Renik for a moment. "I want all the creatures in this world to die, Renik. Be it humans or creatures in another layer, I want them all to die. After all, why do we all live without peace? Why doesn't God just destroy this world?
