It is not surprising when people die, especially unhappy old people. However, such death is still treated as bad and accompanied with mourning and grief. To add more trouble to the situation, it wasn't in the minds of the dwellers of Dame Lina Avenue, Greenland Estate, Uyo, in south south region that the popular lady Dame's court will be begging for a owner. The lady Dame's court was the most magnificent edifice in the Greenland Estate and the street it was situated was named after its owner the beautiful Lady Lina. It was the dream edifice of little children in the estate who usually dreamt of owning one in future and the wonder of adults. But resident in the building was a slim elegant calm innocent soft spoken lady popularly known as Lady Dame, who was regarded as the mother of greenland. Her generosity was unmatched and she made it her responsibility to cater for the children of the less privileged in the estate. Generosity is like running water, always flowing to any where is a slope. In the middle of her generosity, she had a well moulded collection of standards which made her so mysterious to her beneficiaries, well wishers and Friends.
It was a ritual in Lady Dame's court, that morning prayers was conducted by Rev. Johnny, the local pastor of Living Spring church at 6am in her sitout lodge. Regrettably, her chief maiden Mrs Ene, as her usual morning routine went to help the lady dress up and walk down the sitout lodge. For the first time in 40 years, she observed that the door to lady Dame's room was locked. For over an hour without any response until Rev. Johnny and others who joined the morning prayers arrived. All efforts to open the door of her room failed. The morning prayers did not hold. Finally, Lady Ene made the bold decision that the door be opened by force. She told Inuen, one the children that usually attended the morning prayers to call the local Carpenter. The innocent boy ran to the carpenter across the road and in no time he arrived with his tools and the door was open. Every one rushed in to find out what happened to the lady Dame, the mother of the estate but only to behold the liveless body of a beautiful old lady who was a champion of standards.
