Chereads / My Class is Puppeteer / Chapter 21 - Luck

Chapter 21 - Luck

Natalie Kim, it has been over a week since her arrival in the city of Gramm. In this time her party has grown to a fairly large group of 8.

She has also heard of her Ex boyfriend's exploits.

She has made sure to hide from him. She didn't know how he would react after all. All she knows is that he has power, something that he could use on her. Which is why she hasn't done anything aside from observe and hide. Though she thinks that he has already moved on, she also knows that power can corrupt even the purest of people. Matthew is the farthest thing from pure she knows the reason he adapted so well.

While she wasn't on top like in the old world, she was still not in the bottom.

She made sure to collect some decent D - Class party members. If anything she was slightly below average, her two mana circles were placed on one of her lungs and the other on her mind. She was far too scared to try it on her heart thus only doubling her original pool of mana during her first and second ritual.

Her class is a traditional spellcaster. Meaning that memorizing spells and chanting is what she had to excel at.

As a party leader she has the most authority in her group, though no one wants to get on her bad side in the first place.

She decides on the group's mission of choice and this time around, she decided to go for the Yuan -Ti.

"What the fuck? None of you told me that they were resistant to magic?"

"It is common knowledge Miss Kim, We thought you knew."

She has been running around with her crew for a multitude of reasons. The magical resistance was something that they could have handled, what they can't handle is the sudden influx of C - Class Yuan-Ti warriors.

Two of her party members already died, their main goal now is to run and survive.

"Status"

Name: Natalie Kim

Title: N/A

Profession: Sorceress

Mana: 455/2,000 [Second Circle]

Ki: 70/70 [Untrained]

Unique Ability: Monkey Tail

Skills: [Basic Spell Weaving] [Spark] [Light] [Shock] etc.

With only 455 mana remaining, she had to do something quickly as the group of snake-like creatures pressed on.

She began to chant once more as her group pushed back against the Yuan-Ti.

"I'm going to live!" she thought to herself as she chanted once more.

"Pledge of Fire let them scatter, unleash a hail of fire, A shower!" a small shower of fire was sent flying towards the Yuan-Ti. Most of them were unscathed, some with a few burns.

[200/2,000]

They were simply more susceptible to physical attacks but even then some of them were at C - Class.

The party will not be able to last for long.

"Hambos send out a flare!" Hambos jumped back and took out a flare from his right pocket. Lighting it up, a red smoke came out of it.

"Fuck...fuck everything's gone to shit!"

...

"Gavin the Sergeant is coming!"

Gavin and his crew stood upright and all gave out a salute as their new Sergeant arrived.

"This is Sergeant Rokhan, A warrior who reached C - Class just a few weeks ago. What he says goes, any disrespect to him and you'll have to answer to me. Am I clear?"

"Sir, yes sir."

Most of the group were happy, their old sergeant is apparently training a new set of recruits. Gavin should have been happy, along with the rest of them.

He forced a smile, he knew who Rokhan served. Which party he belonged to.

"Guess I'll have to face my demons at some point."

He could only hope that the man would not recognize him. He always saw Matthew Khan as an unfeeling ghost, who only smiled when Natalie was around. He was chaotic, someone with a sense of loyalty to his friends. He beat the shit out of a man who talked badly about Gavin before, so he can't say that the man is truly unjust.

He never wished to face that man's anger.

"It's my own coffin, I'll face the music when the time comes. I'm not like Nat, never like Nat. I betrayed him, I should at least have the balls to face him."

...

PK, in a game this could stand for the term player-kill or for this context. A Party Kill, in this case it is almost a TPK, Total Party Kill.

It's as simple as it sounds, everyone in Natalie's party were massacred by the Yuan-Ti.

She stood there bloodied as a single tear left her right eye.

"I...hate .. this-"

As her eyes were about to close, the one thing she had in the old world was something that seemingly came back.

Her copious amount of luck.

A tall man carrying a sword along with his party members cleared the forest out.

A cleric came to her aid, healing her wounds.

"Don't worry Miss, we'll take it from here."

They saw the flare roughly 20 minutes ago. In those 20 minutes the entirety of Natalie's party died.

One could say that she is lucky to be alive, but those who know the context might just say that it was a stupid decision in the first place.

C - Class monsters are not a joke, if there is even a slim chance that a few could show up then it's better to have at least a few C - Class members in a party.

She didn't heed the warnings of the clerk.

She doomed her group to fail from the beginning, a valuable lesson. This also set up a rumor among her peers.

"She knew the dangers so why didn't she prepare?"

"You don't think she did it on purpose, right?"

Among the D - Class of the City of Gramm, a stain in her reputation came to be. Getting your whole party killed while being the designated leader does not bode well for anyone who might try to join your party.

So for the first time in the life of one Natalie Kim, she was alone.
