Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

No matter how many soldiers survive the war, the nightmare will only end when the war ends. When the strongest side is able to control the other side, then peace will come. It might sound like an impossible dream, but Lavent wanted to try.

One day, if they could become the strongest of the strong, the peace that was lost would surely return. That's why they needed so many troops. Wars involving personal feelings and desires were no more acceptable in this world. It would be better if people who had families, feelings, and thoughts naturally got a more decent life than artificial humans, right?

"What about SEES? So far, our military company has never been in active conflict with SEES. If they find out about this, won't they nod the agreement?"

One of Lavent's colleagues began to speak up. Louise did not answer immediately, but she chose to smile slightly while watching Lavent's colleague.

"SEES has gotten too big head just because we use their artificial human products. The funding for this research also came from our money. Why should we worry? This operation is secret anyway. The scientist who created IVY is isolating himself somewhere. You just need to secretly eliminate the program or kill the scientist."

By the time he heard Louise's answer, Lavent was even more convinced that the scientist in question was Lant. And for some reason, a strange and unfamiliar feeling came over him. Perhaps it could be called surprise or a bit of excitement that he would meet Lant again.

How long had it been?

Lavent couldn't remember. His brain could no longer accommodate the useless memories of the past in detail. But, one thing Lavent definitely remembered was her separation from Lant at that time. When he decided to enter the military company and when Lant made his way in the SEES.

Perhaps this would be a beautiful reunion between the two of them after so many years apart.

"And I won't accept failure."

Lavent smiled at Louise's next words. Failure? Had he ever failed a mission so far? That was a funny warning. Compared to all of Louise's words and explanations, the warning just now sounded more interesting.

"Failure?" Lavent spoke in a deliberately provocative tone. A lopsided grin formed on the hard facial lines. "Don't worry. Even if this mission fails, I will not lose an eye."

After saying that arrogantly, Lavent turned to leave the room without looking back. He knew that Louise was underestimating him. Of course, Louise had already realized who the scientist they were after this time was and thought Lavent would not be able to finish it because he had to face Lant.

Lavent didn't hate Lant, but he didn't care for him either. To Lavent, Lant was just a child who grew up with him in the same house. They were never friends, nor were they enemies. With similar minds, but also different. They had the same desire for peace but also had different ways and views to realize it.

That's why Lavent didn't feel any sadness or hesitation when he heard about this mission. If he had to kill Lant in order to achieve his goal, for this military company to thrive above all else and create world peace, whoever stood in the way, he would not hesitate to finish them off.

Furthermore, this mission somehow sounded like destiny to Lavent. He didn't care about the disputes between the SEES and military organizations, but he was interested in the IVY figure that Lant had resolved. For a long time, the man had always dreamed of an artificial human with feelings and thoughts of his own.

How did IVY work?

How does the program look like?

Where and what was IVY like now?

Even if IVY really was a perfect artificial human, he wanted to destroy it. At any cost, he wanted to see the program destroyed and not left with the rest of the artificial humans.

If IVY really has thoughts and feelings, can she get angry? Can she feel pain? Can she despair? Ah, it's possible that IVY could also feel the desire to kill like him, right? That's right if IVY was really created like a human, Lavent wondered what expressions IVY would make when suffering.

They could have seized the program without spilling blood. But, even though Lavent had long since parted ways with Lant, that didn't mean he could forget the man's characteristics. Lant would definitely try to fight at all costs to protect what belonged to him. Just like when Lant tried to protect the mantis from Lavent, or when Lant desperately hid the little cat.

Louise didn't know that and thought that Lavent was a childish man who couldn't kill Lant. That man would definitely not let IVY be destroyed so easily. Then, in what way would Lant protect IVY? The man was not someone who could fight, but Lavent admitted, Lant had a very smart brain. If only Lant had forgotten the dream of creating the perfect artificial human and chosen to join the military with him, Lant would have become an outstanding strategist.

"Too bad ...." Lavent muttered those two words with a smile.

Well, even so, wasn't that the challenge for him? He was really looking forward to the reunion this time.
