Outside, Cedar Pine Mental Care Facility...
Hadrian S. Rawsone sat quietly, as he took a moment to look out over the grounds as his wife paused to finish signing the last of the paperwork that would ensure he was able to leave the hospital before she wheeled him to their car. The good doctor wasn't surprised to find that Colin Winters had joined them no doubt trying to find some time to play up on his lack of fatherly duties in the past. The good doctor didn't say a word as he was wheeled toward the car and finally able to leave the facility behind him. He still had some recovering to do before he was back up to full speed but he was pleased to not have to spend the night behind another padlocked door with random strangers screaming themselves to sleep. Julia finished her business with the doctors and nurses and made her way over toward the car while Colin assisted in getting Hadrian into the back seat.
The doctor had not recognized it, due to the white exterior and beige seats when he filed inside. He took it to mean the car had belonged to Colin and sat back against the seat in the back as both Julia and Colin moved toward their respective front seats. He had not said a word to either of them since being discharged and leaned his head back against the seat while Colin started the engine and pulled away from the building.
Hadrian couldn't have gotten away from that place fast enough in his humble opinion despite not understanding why his wife had been of the mind to send him to that establishment in the first place. From what he recalled, he'd had trouble sleeping and was given medication for it.
It was astounding to hear from both Colin and Julia that he'd missed whole months of his life due to unexplainable blackouts before the shock treatment. He was only too glad that his daughters had been off to college and didn't have to worry about his apparent erratic behavior. Still, he had missed them even when locked away for his "own good" according to his family.
Colin didn't seem to have much to say either as he focused on the long drive. Julia sat quietly in the front looking out the window closest to her and possibly contemplating what would happen once they got Hadrian home.
Hadrian closed his eyes finding the drive to be quite a dull experience and the silence and awkwardness that surrounded them had not been any better.
The car made a few twists and turns down the open highway at a steady pace and smooth trajectory until a random driver swerved into their lane and Colin had to slam on the brakes to keep from ramming into them.
The jolting from the car had awakened Hadrian who had been frozen in fear as the distinctive flashes of a similar accident had flooded his weary mind and he found himself seeing the same bloodied little boy in the seat beside him. He did his best to handle the terror building in him without alerting anyone upfront as he had not wished to be returned to the facility.
The bloodied boy reached out to him as if trying to grasp his hand and Hadrian pulled back fast enough to hit his elbow against the door drawing the attention of his wife who had been seemingly watching him. Colin had managed to get them to the house in one piece before any other road incidents happened and Hadrian sighed in relief at seeing the home he'd been missing for quite some time.
The boy had not left the other seat, still staring at him with shards of glass in his face and body as blood continued to trickle from his wounds. He reached for Hadrian once more as the already weary man quickly got out of the car forgetting that he had not been as strong with his motor skills which caused him to nearly fall out of the car.
Colin shuffled over and helped him to his feet as he stared back at the seat where the bloodied boy still sat with his hand reached out for him. He didn't know who the boy was but his looks were quite similar to the way Hadrian himself looked as a boy from what he recalled of his childhood pictures before the fire destroyed them all.
The elder Rawsone seemed to sense his son's distress and wondered if they had taken him out of the facility too soon.
"Are you alright?" asked Colin with an arched brow.
"I...I'm fine Colin," replied Hadrian quickly getting back to his feet with assistance and turning his attention to the house. "I'm just tired is all."
Julia walked over toward him confused as to what had been going on herself as she shut her door and attempted to fish the house keys from her purse. She didn't doubt that Hadrian had been tired after all he endured and rightly guessed that he'd been more looking forward to finally getting inside the house to rest.
She opened the door and both men entered after her.
Hadrian took a deep breath trying his hardest to suppress the strange images that plagued his mind as he attempted to bask in the fact that he'd finally been out of the facility and back home where he belonged. While he wasn't the biggest fan of Colin Winters, he had been glad the older man had stopped by and driven them home even if his being behind the wheel made him uneasy.
The house didn't seem to have changed much since the last he saw it. It was cleaner than usual thought, possibly in preparation for his arrival.
"Go and get some rest," said Julia softly as she placed a free hand on the front of his chest. "
Despite not being in the least hungry, Hadrian had been of the mind to agree with her, at least this time around as he made his way toward the stairs. Colin followed having the mind to err on the side of caution so as to avoid any other issues as his eldest son continued to adjust to life outside of the facility again.
