Chapter 3 - There was nothing but darkness

*Until you came into my world, there was nothing but darkness. *

"You are to get married to the Mayor's son in three days" Roselia's father blinked away from her stare and sighed, relaxing himself on the chair.

"So that's what they've been hiding. They all want me to marry the Mayor's son. Is that why they say Reynold's dead? Maybe they just told him to hide away and never appear in front of me. Reynold is not dead." She thought

Her thoughts made her smile and the arc grew as seconds passed.

"Sis, are you cool with marrying that douchebag?" Her younger brother spoke slowly.

"Anthony Cyan Kente. Who's the douchebag you are talking about?" Mrs. Kente glared at him. He would have died instantly if stares could kill.

"Dad, can I speak with you privately?" Roselia carefully placed her cutlery on the table.

She stood up from her chair and circling round it, she intertwined her hands together and made a head bow to everyone. "Excuse me."

She took her leave to the stairs at the west wing of the house. That's was the direction to Roselia's father's private study room. She meant business.

"It was time to get answers" Roselia thought.

Warm air suddenly flowed in and kissed some bare parts of Roselia's body. This only meant one thing- her father has arrived. The open and close door of the study made a creak sound.

"Lia, the mayor was there just now. Don't you think it's a bit rude? Huh?" Roselia's father squatted beside her and with a smile on his face, he tucked some of her light blonde hair behind her ear.

"Well, I'd apologize some other time. I promise." Roselia smiled at her father. He was the only one she really got along with in the entire Kente household.

"What do you want to talk about?" He chuckled as he took his place opposite her, swivelling in his chair.

" Dad. Isn't it obvious. I am no longer a child. Please tell me what's going on." Roselia pouted, shifting closer to the table.

"The mayor's son has always been fond of you and he's a good kid. His-"

"Dad. You know that's not what I'm talking about." Roselia groaned, rolling her eyes and slamming her palm on the arm rest.

"Isn't that why we are here?" Her father chuckled.

"I don't care about any mayor or his son. Where's Rey dad?"

Another staring contest began but it didn't last up to ten seconds. Her father broke it, looking down with a sigh. Roselia's body trembled and she tried really hard to control her breathing pace as she looked away from her father. Her gaze landed on a picture of just the two of them and she remembered...

"Mr. Kente, Miss Kente, how about a picture?" Reynold waved at the father and daughter pair that just exited the elevator.

"Mr. Allen what a surprise but a picture? For what?"

"For keepsake of course. Today is really the day, Miss Kente's plan was accepted right, even if we have to sign the contract tomorrow. Why not have a picture for today?" Reynold explained

"Sounds good. Doesn't it Lia?" Mr. Kente smiled from Reynold to Roselia.

"Of course it is. Go on Mr. Allen" Roselia grinned at Reynold.

" Come closer. One. Two. Three. Say Kente!"

"Roselia." Her father sighed.

"Reynold did a lot for us during the short war you had with your competitors." Roselia sniffed as her eyes watered up.

"I wouldn't have accepted his help if I had known he'd steal my daughter away from me."

"Dad." She whined.

"Roselia." His voice was soft but firm.

"I'm quite aware of the fact that you don't like him. Where are you hiding him? Let's make a deal. Shall we? Tell me where Rey is and I'd get married."

"Roselia, Rey's gone. He even wrote a suicide note."

"Dad. I got a letter from Rey two weeks ago. So how are you telling me. He is dead." Roselia placed her head on her palm in exhaustion. "How am I going to find the truth If everyone keeps saying the same thing." She thought

"What letter? How did you get a letter from him?"Roselia's father was flabbergasted.

"With your reaction, he should still be alive then. Tell me. Where is he? Dad. At least give us a chance to have a clean break up. I have never made you worry about me, so just this once help me relieve me of my worries." Roselia walked up to her father and knelt beside him.

"What break up. You want to elope with him instead. Get up"

"How about we sign a contract?" She didn't even try to hide the desperation in her voice.

"Contract my foot. Haven't we signed that before. Get up."

"There wasn't any penalty so, I had nothing to lose." Roselia chuckled

"What do you have to lose now Lia? Tell me."

"Dad."

"You are going to be having lunch with the Mayor's son tomorrow. I have already prepared the gift."

"Gift?"

"Also, the dress. You'd also have dinner with his family tommorow. He'd ask you, so you have to accept."

"Dad."

"Get up. Go get some sleep."

"I'm not going anywhere." Roselia finally stood up and dashed towards the door

"Roselia."

She paused.

"Fine. I'll get some sleep. A really good night sleep."

"Lia."

"You should too."

She continued her way to the door and slammed it shut once she was at the other side.

"What am I going to do now?" She thought

This was the longest day of her life.

She walked slowly back to her room, thinking hard about a new target to get answers. Her mother would never tell her anything and her siblings would definitely avoid the topic. Aaron wasn't in the options anymore.

"Who exactly am I going to ask for answers. This is so frustrating." She thought.

At that moment her phone vibrated in her jacket pocket. It was a text message.

Sweet Bree: Let's meet up for coffee tomorrow. The usual. What do you think?

"How could I forgotten about Brianna Stone. She's a walking news paper" She thought

Me: Same time. Same place.
