Desmond paced back and forth in his spacious bedroom, glancing at the clock every few minutes. It had been two days since his wife, Sam, had left to visit her mother, and she had yet to return. He had tried calling her multiple times, but the calls went straight to voicemail. He was just about to file a police report when the phone rang.
Desmond answered it immediately, his heart racing with fear and hope.
"Hello?" he said, his voice shaking.
"We have your wife," a cold, unfamiliar voice on the other end of the line said.
"If you want to see her again, you'll pay us the sum of 90 million dollars." And you'll do it within 24 hours, or else.
