That is the ranking of the beasts. Some beasts undergo mutations that allow them to be a maximum of 3 times as strong as other beasts of the same rank. The system gives people a boon, but it comes with a cost.
That cost is decreased leveling speed. Since their bodies are stronger than others, it would take more experience points to advance them to the next level due to their beast cores being 1-3 times that of another.
