Chapter 7 - Daily Quests

*DING!*

[A New Daily Quest has been issued]

'Hmm....? What is this about?' Mako felt intrigued and decided to check it out immediately by opening the System Interface using his mind.

'Open System Interface,' Mako said in his thoughts.

[Shop] ⓘ (Locked)

When Mako first opened the interface, only the profile tab was available, and the rest were greyed out, but now the quests and the skills tabs were also unlocked. There was a red highlight next to the quests tab reading out (New!), meaning there was something that he had not seen yet, which was similar to how the notifications worked.

Each tab still had the "ⓘ" next to it, which displayed more information about that tab, so before he opened the quests tab, Mako decided to learn what each tab here represented.

[Quests] ⓘ (New!)

[The Quests tab displays the quests that have been issued by the system to help the user grow more powerful by giving rewards for each completed quest, while there are penalties for failing quests, too.]

[There are four different types of quests available:

1) Daily Quests: These quests are issued once per day and are designed to be completed quickly with moderate rewards.

2) Regular Quests: These quests present a greater challenge and require more time to complete. However, the rewards granted are proportionate to the difficulty.

3) Emergency Quests: These quests are triggered in critical situations where the user's life or the lives of others may be at risk. These quests offer high-value rewards to encourage optimal performance in high-stakes scenarios.

4) Hidden Quests: Unannounced and undisclosed quests that remain undetected by the user. These optional challenges provide additional rewards when specific conditions are met, often without the user's direct awareness.

******************

[Skills] ⓘ

[The skills tab displays all the skills that the user currently has in his arsenal.]

[There are four different types of skills that the user can currently learn:

1) Basic Skills: These are fundamental skills that the user can acquire independently through practice and refinement without the need for external sources.

2) Power Skills: These skills are directly tied to the user's abilities and can be learned through various sources.

3) Unique Skills: These skills are exclusive to the user and are not learned but rather created. They cannot be taught or replicated by others.

4) Absolute Skills: High-level skills that serve as ultimate techniques or finishing moves. These skills require significant energy and are typically the strongest abilities in a given skillset.

Please be informed that all skills are at level 1 when first learned and can be continuously improved upon the more the user uses them.

Skills are categorized by their quality and rarity, with each tier represented by a distinct color:

F-Tier (Grey): Minimal attributes; lowest attack power, defense, and effectiveness.

E-Tier (Green): Slightly improved attributes with limited combat utility.

D-Tier (Blue): Moderately effective with balanced attributes.

C-Tier (Purple): Solid attributes with reliable combat efficiency.

B-Tier (Red): High-level skills with strong offensive and defensive capabilities.

A-Tier (Gold): Exceptionally powerful skills with superior attributes, among the rarest and most effective.

[Inventory] ⓘ (Locked)

[The Inventory tab displays the system's unique feature as it can store items for the user inside the system's personal space. More information can only be disclosed once the user has unlocked the inventory.]

[Shop] ⓘ (Locked)

[The Shop tab is a unique feature of the system. As the name implies, the user can access the system's shop and make purchases by buying and selling different items. More information can only be disclosed once the user has unlocked the shop.]

Mako was shocked to see how important each tab was after reading the details about each of them. The inventory and shop tabs didn't explain much except their general purpose, as they were still locked.

'How do I unlock the other tabs?' Mako asked subconsciously while still browsing over the information he was given.

[The inventory tab will be unlocked when the user reaches level 5, and the shop tab will be unlocked when the user reaches Level 10]

"Woah! Did you just answer what I was thinking about?" Mako was amazed, but this time, there was no answer.

"It only replies to genuine questions about itself. Okay, got it!" Mako said as he finally proceeded to open the quests tab.

[Quests] ⓘ (New!)

[Daily Quests]

Task 1: Run 2000 meters.

Task 2: Do 50 Squats, Push-ups, Crunches, Lunges, and jumping jacks each.

Task 3: Lift a total of 150 Kg.

[Reward: 50 EXP, 2 Attribute Points]

[Penalty: Hidden]

"Penalty? What is the penalty?" Mako asked, but this time, there wasn't a reply.

"Well, it's better if I don't find out what the penalty is the other way either," Mako said sarcastically as he closed the system interface and poured himself a bowl of cereal.

[10:17 AM]

Mako still had a lot of time left in the day, and the daily quests didn't seem too hard, so he decided to do them right after finishing his breakfast.

Since it was Saturday, Mako didn't have school, but he did have a shift at the bakery, which he had completely missed after passing out in the secret room overnight.

As he shoveled the last few spoonfuls of cereal into his mouth, a sinking feeling settled in his stomach. He could already picture the sheer wrath of Sir Derek for missing his shift, and he was not looking forward to facing him the following night.

Mako gulped hard, swallowing both his cereal and his fear. 'I am so dead.'

Once he had finished his breakfast, Mako made his way outside to complete the first two tasks. He started a light jog toward the forest, and a meter suddenly appeared next to the first task.

[Task 1: Run 2000 meters. (0/2000 m)]

***************************

After a 20-minute run through the forest, Mako finally made it back home. He was now sitting in his kitchen, catching his breath. He had never been the athletic type, and running right after breakfast had been a mistake. His body felt sluggish, and his lungs burned slightly from the exertion.

Mako was no stranger to traveling long distances on foot, but that was usually at a walking pace or a light jog. Sprinting at full speed was an entirely different challenge, and to make matters worse, the system only registered the distance he covered when he was running at his maximum speed.

This forced him to push himself harder than usual, draining his stamina quickly. During his loop through the forest, he had to stop once or twice to catch his breath before pushing forward again. By the time he made it home, exhaustion weighed heavily on him.

After a few minutes of resting on the kitchen floor, Mako finally got back on his feet. He made his way to the living room, where there was enough space to complete the exercises assigned by the system.

Compared to the run, the exercises weren't as grueling. He was familiar with them from P.E. classes, but the sheer number of repetitions made them a challenge. His muscles were already sore from the sprinting, and now, he had to push through another round of physical strain.

[2:30 PM]

Mako drank an entire liter of water in one go, exhausted from all the exercises the system had made him do, but he was finally finished.

The last quest was also pretty simple once Mako overcame the minor heart attack he had caused by thinking he had to lift 150 kilograms at once. The coffee table in Mako's living room was nice and light, around 10 pounds, so Mako only had to lift it about 30 times to complete the final task.

After finishing his last task, Mako wiped the sweat from his forehead with his hands before opening the system interface, and as expected, a notification alert appeared. After opening it, Mako received the rewards for completing his daily tasks.

[Daily Quests]

[Task 1: Run 2000 meters. (2000/2000 m)]

[Task 2: Do 50 Squats, Push-ups, Crunches, Lunges, and jumping jacks each. (5/5)]

[Task 3: Lift a total of 150 Kg. (150/150 kg)]

[Tasks Completed]

[Rewards: +50 EXP, (2) Attributes Points]

'I wonder what attribute points are for?' Mako thought.

[Attribute Points can be used by the user to upgrade the value for any one of his attributes by one]

The system immediately satisfied his curiosity with its reply, and after Mako learned what they were for, a grin appeared on his face as he spoke.

"Oh, this is going to be so gooood."
