Hudson couldn't help but interrupt.
As though realizing his misbehavior, the phantom said tremulously: "Him, it's him!"

Hearing the phantom's nonsensical words, Hudson was utterly bewildered. He wasn't a philosopher, so the whole "You are him, yet not him" completely baffled him.
However, reason reminded him that there was no need to argue with a remnant spirit. Especially in this mysterious palace, going against its owner was highly risky.
