Chereads / Kingdoms of Dust: Rebuilding The Nation / Chapter 72 - Sniper Showdown.

Chapter 72 - Sniper Showdown.

I've fixed my eyes on him; when I was young, he was better than me in chess. When I grew older, I stood alone in all the problems against me, and people still believed he was a better leader.

People seemed to worship him as a god in my eyes, I always wanted to touch that or stand equal to it, but I soon realized that was never possible.

Then I grew jealous and more jealous with time,

"Asphodel will be attacking us?"

When I knew he was coming for me, my heart ran wild. It seemed like a romantic idea to me for a second, but it was never something good I wanted for him.

He was That Man's successor, leading to my father's condition. If that day, he hadn't pushed us behind for his security...

I wanted to kill him and, more so, his student. But there never was a chance. He survived everything I tried to kill, but still, I was happy when he survived.

"Why was that?"

I don't know why. Maybe I didn't want to push his teacher to hate on him,

No, that was not right. I wanted to kill him myself, and after killing him, I'll kill his teacher too; that will be my salvation.

So, when I saw his face at the watchtower, I wasn't worried because I had lost my soldier; I was excited that he would die at my hands.

"Yuuka Sakaguchi will die by hands."

"Yuuka is here?!"

The mention of him took Anju aback. A question like, How or why was he here? She was the first to come to her but needed to check something else.

"How do you know that, Milize?"

"It is evident; someone fired a shot from the watchtower when the wind was high. I heard the noise of the bullet. I turned around for a second; I saw his face."

'How were you able to hear the noise of the shot?' was a natural question Anju wanted to ask. Still, Milize had locked her eyes on the watchtower with complete focus, so Anju didn't answer that question.

"Are you sure it was him? Someone like that can't just appear out of nowhere, right?"

Nobody would ever expect this, the commander of the attacking forces fighting at the port while the army is attacking the centre. It was too convoluted.

"I am sure. I saw his face, it was him for sure. I will fail to recognize that face."

Milize tone and words changed from thoughtful and calm or just flat-out Rage.

I don't know why he is here, but I must crush him right now!"

Milize was in no way keeping a calm composure. She was acting and talking excitedly like many emotions had to awaken simultaneously.

"I am going for him! I will personally kill him."

Milize suddenly spoke up and tried to move toward the watchtower by herself. Still, Anju stopped her in her tracks, she understood Milize's emotions towards Yuuka, but Milize was not fighting alone.

"Milize, calm down. Do let the storm's wind carry you. If Yuuka is here, maybe there are more sodleir beside him.

Milize looked at Anju, whose face showed clear signs of frustration and anger. Still, she stopped herself and took a deep breath. Within a few seconds, she was back to a calm demeanour again.

"I am sorry; you are right; we need to focus-"

"!!"

As she was going to complete her sentence, Milize jumped right upon Anju; both fell on the ground, but there was another sound with two of them falling.

"Why did you-"

Anju also didn't finish her sentence as she looked at the bullet shell, piercing the concrete far from the position she had stood in earlier.

"We need to hide at first."

The shot came right from the watchtower as Milize saw a glimpse of Yuuka aiming at them. This led Milize to realize that,

"If all of the out in the open, even if he is alone. He is at the most significant advantage."

The wind blowing all around was the only big problem for Yuuka, Milize thought.

"Run!" Milize held Anju's hand and began running as the gun barrel was again visible.

"How are even able to see?"

Anju was dazzled by how Milize could observe the barrel from such a distance which accompanied another question of the same kind.

"How is it able to shoot so accurately from such a distance?"

As Milize and Anju reached a safe location under a warehouse's shed, they finally caught up with their breath. Their heart was racing at the idea that they were just about to be killed a few seconds ago.

"It is always him. No matter, he finds a way to come out of nowhere and win! Why is that?!"

Milize was getting seriously frustrated about who Yuuka was, someone who always trumped over, who she never defeated, and who broke her pride.

"Commander!!"

A soldier with a worried expression came running towards Milize, and she knew that was going down.

" Two soldiers were killed by the enemy, and we don't know what happened. It was a sniper, and both of them were shot in the head.

"In the head...?"
