Chereads / the lost werewolf queen / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

I walked quickly out of the scene as I didn't want to be seen by anyone; certainly not by the cops. I had spent the bulk of my time already, fighting useless humans. I didn't want to spend any more of that time fighting off the cops. Besides, unlike those folks, they had weapons that I had to be wary of, even silver bullets.

There was blood all over my body from my face to my legs. I had blood on my shirt and my trousers. Not my blood, of course, but the blood of my victims. I had to find a place to clean up. It was a good thing that it was already night.

I had a look at my watch once again to see that I had just over 45 minutes left. I hoped that the bastard hadn't gotten any information about our arrival. If he did, I knew exactly who to hold responsible. We had an inside man who gave us all the details we needed to get to the man. If our cover ever got blown, we were certain it'd have been him. He did know better than to cross us though. No one had ever crossed Isaac the terror and lived to tell the story.

I picked up the pace but I thought against using my wolf or vamp speed. I didn't want the idiot or any of his goons to suspect anything. It had to be a surprise attack. He wasn't supposed to escape for any reason. I had to do a clean job.

I saw a tap, about a kilometre away from where I was and I began to approach it hastily. I saw some wolves who were probably just taking a walk by the other side of the road; about five in number, all hefty and tall. One of them threw me a glance and alerted the others to my presence. They looked at me like I was so different from them. Jerks!

Folks in the werewolf community had always looked at me that way; like I was some sort of a monster. They treated my kind like we were aliens and hunted us for being a bit different. Yet, we were all wolves. The only difference was that I was also a camp but I was a wolf too, just like them. They took out every member of the vamps, except me. I was the one they couldn't kill.

Now, they had to always look over their shoulders. Just like these, who were scared to death of seeing me. I had become a monster; the very monster that they created. If only they had treated vampires better and let me gain some acceptance, seeing that I was also like them in a way, things may have turned out a bit differently. Who knows?

"Look how he's covered with blood," said one to the other. "He's a monster like the legends say."

"It wasn't even hard to know that it was him," said another. "He's not supposed to be allowed to remain on the surface of the Earth."

"Hey, quiet," replied the first voice I heard. "He's a wolf too. He can hear you if he wants."

I ignored the morons and kept moving. There were better things to do with my time. They were very lucky I had other things to do. I'd have snapped their heads off. Unlike humans, I had little sympathy for these wolves. There was always going to be the next time.

As I drew closer to the tap, I felt a surge of blood from within me. My heart beat faster and I knew something was wrong. I looked at my watch again and saw that I had only thirty minutes left. Just thirty minutes! I was in trouble. How was I going to get through to the man and kill him within such a short time? I thought about using my super speed, it was the night after all, yet the rules were clear; don't use your super speed, play it safe. I needed to be quicker.

I quickly took off my shirt and tossed it to the floor; my trousers too, then I looked around to make certain that no one was looking. Getting naked in front of people wasn't the best of things so I did well to avoid that.

On seeing that the coast was clear, I took my boxers off too and put on the tap. I had no soap, so I had to make do with just the water. I collected the water with both palms and poured the water onto my body. It was little but it did the work quite well. Then, I went under the tap and sat as the water flowed from my head, down to my body. The cold alone was satisfying. I needed to cool my head a little.

My mind flashed back to the last deal I did. I was asked to take out two werewolves who were conspiring to take out another wealthy wolf. It was one of the toughest jobs I'd done. These wolves were very skilled in hiding and also in fighting. They were so feared, that the wealthy wolf, who contacted my company, had to seek shelter in a hotel guarded fully by our staff. He shit in his pants at the mention of their names.

I nearly lost my life. As I ran my hand through my chest as I washed, I could still feel the scars I got as a result of a brutal beat down that I received at the hands of these wolves. The claw marks refused to disappear. They were so deep. I could still remember the pain I felt as one of them drove his knee into my spine and tried to strangle me with a silver chain which burnt my skin and left me in agony.

Their only mistake was assuming that I was dead instead of finishing me off. They left me and began to walk away, laughing hard at Mr Phelps and wondering how he'd contact someone so weak to fight them. That was their doom. No one ever turned his back on Isaac and lived to tell the story.

I jumped on them in a flash, with the last strength I could muster, biting the first right in his neck, with my fangs sinking so deep that I was certain he was never going to survive. I have to confess, his blood didn't taste so good. I had to quickly spit it out. I guess he was literally a bitter wolf.

The other wolf was taken aback by the swiftness of my attack. He couldn't understand how I was able to heal so quickly. If only he knew that I had both the super healing of a wolf and that of a vampire at the same time, he might have been less surprised.

I drove my right hand right into his chest and took out his heart, just as he swung at me with his left hand. It was my manoeuvre. Doing it always puts a smile on my face. I always made sure to finish my victims with it, even if it was one of them unless I either forgot or wasn't given the opportunity to. Those have happened only thrice throughout my long lifetime.

I stood from under the tap and opened up my bag. I took out a spare red shirt and a pair of black shorts and put them on. I always had a spare shirt in my bag. Sometimes, I even had two shirts. You could never know what might happen at any time. It was always better to be ready.

I wished I had come out with my little mirror to see what exactly I looked like in these clothes but sadly, I had forgotten them back at home so I had to move forward. I knew I had just less than twenty minutes left. I knew what the consequences of not doing what I was asked were; the sanctions, the strikes, the embarrassment, the loss of trust… I knew them all and I wasn't willing to risk all that.

I was only about fifteen blocks from my target's house with only fifteen minutes left when I saw a bright light shining from a particular building. It was so late and I wondered how on Earth, they weren't sleeping. What I'd they heard some noise from the place I was headed? I didn't want the cops anywhere close to me. I needed to keep living freely amongst the humans.

Then I saw a lady; a very pretty lady who wore a long, blue gown and had a travelling bag with her. She looked about 5"9 inches, with long blonde hair and a slender body frame. From a distance, I could see how puzzled she looked. It didn't stop me from noticing her beautiful blue eyes. She looked like she was running away from something, or someone. I wished I could help her somehow but I didn't have the time. I had to be somewhere in ten minutes.

I walked past her, by the other side of the road, but stopped abruptly when I perceived something. A scent; a lovely scent, like that of cinnamon. It filled my nose and overwhelmed me. I turned towards her to see that it was from her. Somehow, I was drawn to this lady and I couldn't even help it. Then it struck me that we were connected somehow. She was my mate. How could it be that I had a human as a mate?

I was at a crossroads. Keep moving and finish my task or walk up to my mate and offer to help?
