Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

I saw a ball coming towards me and I dodged it.

Today we were playing dodgeball, a game that I did happen to enjoy. However, my favorite sport was wall climbing.

I was given gym clothes of My size to change into. They had fitted me perfectly. Jennifer and Megan both were in this class with me. And we were all on the same team. thankfully I enjoyed PE. The only part of this period I didn't like was running track. I enjoyed all the games but I hated running.

As the game progressed I realized Jen didn't only look athletic. She was extremely good at sports. Thank God we both were on the same team. Megan didn't enjoy playing as she didn't seem to be a huge fan of sports. Halfway through the game she made up the excuse of having menstrual cramps and sat down for the rest of the time. Jennifer however was very happy to see that I was enjoying it. After the P.E we all hit the showers and changed back into our clothes.

I made my way out of the gym with Megan and Jennifer. Zarah and Erika were waiting for us outside. Then All of us made Our way toward the parking lot. I saw Sam and waved him goodbye. He smiled good-naturedly and waved back.

Zarah and the rest of the girls added my number to their cell phones. After that, I made My way to the car and started driving home without any further Ado.

My home smelt of a delicious combination of cinnamon and butter when I got back. mom was making a beef stir fry For dinner and cinnamon rolls for dessert. She was an excellent cool. I greeted My mom cheerfully.

"Hey honey how was school," she asked.

"School was ok mom. Not as bad as I expected. I told her.

"Great " her mom beamed happily. Did you make any friends?" She asked

"yeah, mom I made a bunch of new friends. Will tell you the details of dinner. Right now I got to go and change" I said turning around.

I skipped upstairs to my room and after freshening myself up I changed into a comfortable pair of grey sweatpants and a shirt. I got out my homework and started working on it. I also thought about getting a part-time job as I did previously while working on my English reading assignment.

I decided to look around the town soon and see if I could find some work.

My parents already have told me not to worry about college tuition as they have quite a bit of money put aside for that but I wanted to contribute something as well.

I finished my homework as my mom called me down for dinner. dad was home from the office as well

We all sat down around the table and started eating.

I told them both about My day, my new friends, and even my reading assignments for English.

As I had planned a master's in English literature, I found my English classes very interesting.

Suddenly I remembered the odd behavior of the green-eyed Guy called Daniel.

I asked my dad if he knew the Jensen family.

"Yeah, honey they are like owners of almost half this town. They also have multiple businesses running all over the country. They are a very prominent family" he replied.

"Oh. I saw their son Daniel today. He seemed a little full of himself "I told him.

"yeah well, they all are like that. Very rich and powerful and they usually keep to themselves. But they are not bad people. Just a little reserved I think "he said.

"It was Mr. Jensen that decided my transfer here " he added as an afterthought. Another reason to dislike them I thought to myself.

"With the money and connections they have, I am surprised they are settled permanently in this small town .they could move to and live in any big city they want. They can even afford lavish apartments in new york" he further added.

"Oh so they are new here as well?." my mom asked.

"No dear they settled here a long time ago. Rather their ancestors did. They are one of the oldest families here. It's just that the current ones are still choosing to stay here even with everything thing they have is beyond me. I have heard that they travel all around the world a lot but they always come back. " he replied.

"Is it just the Jensens or are there any other old families as well."

I asked.

"No, it's not just the Jensens. The town had about 100 old families that settled here originally about 300yrs ago .their numbers have now increased quite a lot after many generations but Jensens are the most prominent ones. The older families all keep to themselves though. They make up about 50 percent of the whole population of this town. Rest of the people in the town settled here much later. The latest addition being us "Dad told me.

"how many people are there in the Jensen family, " she asked.

" I am not sure. I know there is George Jensen and Mrs. Jensen .they have a son that you met today. They have also adopted their niece into the family after Mrs. Jensen's brother's death. I think that's about it . "he told them.

"How do you know so much about all this dad," I asked laughing

"Well, when I got the transfer order I searched up everything I could about the place we all would have to move to. And as this family has deep roots in this area so naturally I found out all about them too. I wasn't about to move our entire family across the country without doing a little bit of research ". He replied.

By this time we were eating warm gooey cinnamon rolls

"yep dad you played a proper cop," I said smiling.

" Well, honey let's talk about something else" My mom changed the topic. She started telling Us about the book that she was currently writing. She was a writer by profession and she usually wrote murder mysteries. She wrote about one book in a year and she made quite enough money from it.
