"How come there is still a visible speck of dirt on this side of the carpet even though you have just finished brushing it?," Nivia's voice rang out in the empty courtroom and I sighed. Why is she hell bent on causing trouble for me?
When we walked into this courtroom earlier, the other two slaves I met, both male and female looked unfamiliar. I have never seen them before and I am sure Nivia also hasn't seen them before cause since we started working, she has been picking on me.
Me and only me... She probably couldn't pick up on the unfamiliar slaves so she chose to mess with me instead.
I sighed and walked to the spot she was pointing at. I am currently brushing off the dirt on the long, red carpet placed in the courtroom that rolls all the way from the Baron's golden seat to the four corners of the courtroom.
No one needs to be told twice that I am already exhausted and Nivia is even making it worse by making snippy comments.
"Where?," I asked in frustrated tone, trying my best to keep my cool cause I can't see any dirt here. Nivia moved a step backwards and pointed at the spot she just moved away from.
"Here," She answered and I was speechless. I clenched my fists to stop myself from grabbing her hair so tight that it'll hurt her tiny skull.
She had obviously done that on purpose right? "Why did you step on the carpet if you know your shoes had mud underneath them!?," This time, I couldn't keep the anger off my voice.
"Don't you dare raise your voice at me. Just do what you have been assigned to do," Nivia retorted furiously. I should be the one furious here not her. I looked around and saw that the other two slaves were staring at us curiously.
I bent down without a word and began to brush off the mud. A smaller brush appeared in front of me like the one we use to brush our teeth. I looked up at Nivia, wondering what she meant by trying to give me this brush.
"Use this one. It will brush off the dirt quickly... Including smaller sized dirt," She said mockingly. I slapped her hand away and faced my work. She chuckled and walked away.
I felt relieved for a while. Few hours later, we managed to finish cleaning the whole courtroom. It was so clean that I could already imagine Camille standing inspecting it with a smile she rarely shows on her face and Conan too with that annoying smirk on his.
I shook my head abruptly to get the thoughts of him out of my head. Why am I thinking about that jerk? And yes, I remembered to lock my door today so he won't be able to sneak in.
I walked out with the rest and we almost bumped into an angry Baron. Rocky was walking beside him. We immediately bowed as they passed by and I could feel Rocky's gaze lingering on me as they walked away.
Once they left, I couldn't help but think of why the Baron looked so angry. I have never seen him look so angry before and why was Rocky with him? Isn't he just a mere driver?
As I thought more about it, I could feel something was amiss but I couldn't pinpoint what it was.
"Isn't he dreamy?," One of the slaves words pulled me out of my reverie. I looked at them and realized that it was the female one that was talking.
Nivia looked bored with her words but didn't say a word meanwhile the male slave looked irked by his partners words. "The Baron?," He asked her and I looked at them curiously but she immediately shook her head sideways to indicate 'No'.
Then who is she talking about? "No of course not... I am talking about Rocky," She replied. My stomach churned when I saw the dazed look on her face as she talked off of Rocky.
I don't know why I feel this way but I certainly do not like the way she is talking about Rocky.
She couldn't stop chatting about him on the way and countless times, I had to stop myself at telling her to shut up. I wasn't the only one that looked displeased though. Even Nivia looked unhappy with the girl.
I know Nivia isn't unhappy because she likes Rocky. Nivia is someone that aims for something high so she probably won't aim for Rocky who is supposedly a driver so she must only be irritated about the girl that won't stop talking.
I heaved a sigh of relief when we got to the kitchen side. I walked in immediately and met Margaret setting up a tray hurriedly. I looked at her curiously and asked,"Margaret, why are you in such a hurry? It isn't even dinnertime yet."
"Baron has requested for his favourite snack and he looked extremely angry. I don't want to delay just a second and have him vent his anger on me," She answered and winced when she accidentally spilled a cup of water on herself.
I assume the water is hot to warrant such a reaction from her. "Let me help you with it. I'll take it to the Baron and I'll be back in a jiffy," I answered and walked forward to collect the tray.
She looked reluctant to hand over the tray to me but I immediately persuaded her. "Apply ointment on your burn so it won't hurt later," I said as I walked out. I want to know why the Baron is so angry.
"Go to the Baroness chambers. You will find him there," She called out behind me and I nodded.
"I got insider news," I heard the Baron say to Camille as soon as I turned up in front of her room door. I stopped for a second to listen to them.
"What news is that and is that why you look so upset?," Camille's soft voice replied.
"What Conan said is right. Alpha Rickal must just be a puppet himself. Our goal is to find out who is controlling all the puppets and why they are trying to ruin the lycans," he mumbled angrily and I gasped quietly at this discovery.
