Chereads / Lonely Thief Traveler / Chapter 4 - A new beginning

Chapter 4 - A new beginning

Xavier Zemke lay on a abandon temple, bleeding out to death with heavy breathing.

Fog fills the temple.

Dust all over the ground, overgrown weeds, moss on the walls, giving eerie vibes.

Cobwebs, broken tables, chairs, windows, lamps, holes in the walls, flickering candles, broken glass on the floor, spiders, cockroaches, rust, mildew, ripped curtains, shadows, gloomy staircases.

Parasitic plants tendrils permeating the stone blocks, slowly weakening the structure.

Creaking wooden doors, window shutters rattling on the outside, wind scattering through a broken window gap.

Xavier let out a slight grasp as he slowly leaned back on the wall filled with moss.

He lifted his head up slowly and took in his last dying look.

The fragmentary remains of purposely destroyed stone effigies, long forgotten idols, litter the temple and its immediate boundary.

Mildew, rot, dank, rusty or metallic smells, wet wood and stone, rancid breath,

Sour & dry mouth from fear, dust floating in the air and coating the tongue, salty tears.

Everything hit Xavier all at once making him cough up black blood.

Ignoring the pain, he went into a daze.

Complementing his life choice and what let him here.

Fate played a joke on him.

Why did he choose the thief class? Even if it's cool, why would he loot for coins and skills, and equipment's just for his guild to take 70% of his earnings?

Didn't he vow to never work for others? To become his own boss.

Look where he's at now, dying in an unknown abandon temple.

He got into shady business, slaughtered innocents, steal from the top guilds, become a well-known thief everyone despises.

Like a poisonous rat everyone wants dead but can't find.

Death will have a serious punishment, lose all progress, items and restart from 200th level great thief to a level 1 player.

Worst case scenario, if his enemies find out, they will spawn kill or worse torture him until he's mentally dead since the pain level is 100% realistic.

He still has a year left before the 369 year long journey will come to an end and we'll enter Delta Star.

Before Xavier can continue complaining about how unfair life is, it started getting quiet, he felt cold, and heavy eyelids.

Darkness soon envelops him.

Consciousness soon started returning to Xavier, as his senses also returned.

He slowly opened his hazy eyes with clouded visions, and the muffled hearing is soon gone.

Xavier shuddered, suddenly woke up and found himself sitting on futuristic flying bus.

He was stunned for a moment, feeling familiar, looked around to gather information and saw an amazing scene.

Earth in it's prime, the tall trees, moist air, flying cars, etc.

The home of a brilliant civilization called humanity.

Now, everyone will leave their homes, leaving the beautiful earth that is about to be swallowed by the sun.

"I…I am…"

After a brief absence of shock, Xavier gradually realized that he seemed to be… reborn.

"Uh…."

He remembered his lifeless cold body shivering in the abandoned temple, the darkness soon hit him, and it appears his soul was sucked into the chaotic time and space and then he woke up trembling in a bus.

Just reborn, the amount of information is too large, he needs to digest it for a while.

It was not until the flying bus landed, he got off the bus and look at the super space carrier in front of him, that he truly accepted the fact of his rebirth.

The intelligent robot guided them to enter the No. 5535 space carrier in an orderly manner. He entered the cabin door and took one last look at the earth full of mountains and lush trees. The emotion that were already immersed in relief and joy added a touch of loss.

Taking the elevator to the 524th floor, he lay down in the frozen dormant cabin No. 759432. Watching the dormant cabin slowly close, Xavier's originally clenched fist slowly loosened.

"Since you have this opportunity, you should seek more treasures, gold, skills, powers, everything for yourself"

Xavier had a huge grin plastered on to his face as he's already imaging his enemies begging for death and the look of despair lowly npc have when all their savings disappear.

A creepy laughter echoed on cabin No. 759432.

A bone-piercing chill swept through his body, and Xavier's consciousness gradually became blurred. After some time, he suddenly heard a voice in his ear:

'Di Di Di Di, initializing…'

'Scanning body condition…'

'Generating talent and aptitude….'

'Initialization complete, loading the game…'

'Ding, welcome to the world of "Delta Life", I wish you a happy game.'

An emotionless and mechanic voice said to Xavier.

Xavier opened his eyes and looked at this familiar and unfamiliar stone room.

"Please name your new account"

"Hollow Flow"

"Please choose a race"

A translucent screen appeared in front of Xavier, with multiple figures of race.

Human, Dwarf, Elves, Orc, Undead,

"Human"

"Please choose a class"

"Thief class"

"Teleporting to random Village No. 62562"

He suddenly remembered something, called out character attribute column, and looked at his own attributes with a little confusion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"Huh? I remember that the basic attributes were 2, but this time it's 5?"

"Could it be related to my rebirth?"

A little surprised, Xavier continued to look down.

"I almost forgot that my initial talent was B-level. Zero Presence."

Looking at this first trash talent, Xavier really felt a little… embarrassed.

He used to have an S-level talent, Shadow Stealth, impossible to detect and attack.

In "Delta Life", you can delete your account and reincarnate once a day. Each reincarnation will have new talents, but the attributes will remain unchanged.

After he made a name for himself in the underground thief circle and before that money hungry guild forced him to join them.

He felt that his talent was restricting him and making things more difficult, and like most people, he began the endless road of reincarnation and rebuilding.

The probability of S-level talent is one in ten million, the probability of SS-level talent is one in a hundred million, and the probability of SSS-level talent is one in a billion.

He clearly remembered that he had been reincarnated 1825 times!

A full 5 years!

For 5 years, he was like a lunatic. Every day, he wandered around the major novice villages, went to forums to exchange experiences of reincarnation and saw the joy of others after they successfully landed.

In the end, he was lucky and got the S-level talent Shadow Stealth.

The evade rate proficiency is increased by 100%.

Impossible to detect even with legendary detection skills, only with mythical skills can he be detected.

But only the top guild and empires have that, he was all free to loot the poor.

You know the saying, even mosquito is meat. Once you stack up all the coins, he looted it will be in the billions.

Since then, he has embarked on the road of legendary thief god, this road was very tiring, sometimes close to death, but the results were rewarding, especially after he stole from the strongest Undead Lord treasure.

Mythical skill book Vibration, you can vibrate your cells to a frequency rate so you can phase through anything.

Unfortunately, he got the wrath of the Undead Lord, Xavier was cursed to lose 1 blood points per second, and personally hunted down by the Undead Lord.

Before the Undead Lord can meet Xavier, he already bled to death.

However, after being reborn now, will he still take this road?

"No need, I have a better way to go!"

A path that was put in practical use was formed in Xavier Mind.

Treasure Hunting!

In the early "Delta Life", one lucky player successfully completed one of the most boring, tedious and time-consuming tasks of all time, just to pass the 300 year long journey. The reward they got was SS-level talent Shadow Step.

There wasn't much information about the talent but from previous experience, you can instantly appear behind or in front of anyone without them knowing.

Plus, a naked attack bonus, you can attack while ignoring their defense.

Others tried to follow their footstep but untimely failed because it was a limited special task.

They were one of the few to injure Xavier and would always hunt him because he broke their code of conduct.

Rule 1: Never miss a target and let it escape

That lucky player was later known as Lord Shadow Assassin, they owned one of the biggest businesses in "Delta Life", the Assassin League, and open-source bounty organization that anyone can join. Only the strong is respect.

It was unknown what their gender was since they've always worn cloaks.

Since the task was already completed, Lord Shadow Assassin made a complete guide to further increase their reputation.

According to this guide, to obtain the SS-level talent Shadow Step, you must visit shabby and unknown hut in a Novice Village No. 62562.

Luckily for Xavier his Novice Village was exactly that.

You must politely knock, so an old npc lady can welcome you in, she will give you two tasks.

One tedious task that takes 1 month of straight cotton picking, the reward is shown to be unknown, but it was Shadow Step's SS-level talent.

The other tedious task that takes 1 months of straight pulling Ragworts, a poisonous plant that cause irritated skin. The reward was also unknown, but it was S-level talent Stealth.

Lord Shadow Assassin first completed the cotton-picking task and was shocked about the reward, they also did the second task but was disappointed.

After completing both tasks, the old npc lady will disappear along with her shabby house.
