Lucas sat on the bed shirtless.
His metallic gray eyes glimmered with intensity as he wiped his wet hair with a towel.
" What are you doing here?"
Cassidy stared at him lost.
She hadn't seen him shirtless before and she felt her stomach knots tie up. He looked oh...
She couldn't take her eyes off him as she stared at his masculine, well toned chest and beige skin.
" It's your birthday today. I made all this preparation for you and yet you don't seem happy about it."
She choked on her words as tears welled up in her eyes.
" Why are you behaving this way?"
Lucas blazed at her murderously.
His icy stare bored into her as they gazed intently at her.
" You've no right over me."
His pupils that shook violently returned to its previous tranquility.
Lucas felt a stab of pain in his chest. Those tears did something to him as his heartbeat came to an abrupt stop.
This was something beyond his sane explanation - any sane explanation.
His head yelled at his response.
He wasn't supposed to be softened by her tears.
It wasn't in his nature.
It wasn't his nature to be kind or feel care towards someone - especially a woman.
He walked towards her clenching his fists tightly and Cassidy found herself withdrawing from his movement.
She inched backwards unconsciously until her back hit something solid.
He caged her to the wall.
Lucas could hear her heart beating wildly.
She was afraid of him?
She even shut her eyes as if that would protect her.
Lucas wanted to leave the world behind ( maybe reluctantly.)
He wanted Cassidy to take him through the light even if his demons didn't want that.
But, the truth scared him.
He didn't want to believe it; his heart kept telling him ( it reminded him constantly.)
Lucas felt his demons emerge when he looked at Cassidy.
Her red dress enhanced her curvy figure ( something he hadn't noticed.)
Her caramel coloured hair rested lightly on her shimmering porcelain skin.
She had him under her control.
Lucas growled inwardly.
He could hear his demons whisper wicked yet tempting things to him.
But no!
He didn't want to hurt her ( especially not this way.)
That would only scare her away from him.
Cassidy felt a surge of warmth invade her entire body when Lucas touched her.
The contact was gentle and warm, yet it sent unease down her spine.
Her legs wobbled in weakness.
Was it even unease?
It awakened the butterflies in her belly.
" Don't be afraid."
Cassidy fought every muscle in her quivering body.
She finally opened her eyes and she saw him staring at her.
She held her breath unconsciously.
His eyes!?
Those gray eyes!
Those eyes held some significant things that were inexplicable.
They held pains, sadness and hatred.
Cassidy could hear her breathing pace in the dead silence.
Lucas opened his mouth but no words came out.
Those words that had been on the tip of his tongue couldn't come out.
He forcefully swallowed them, then took a deep breath.
" You shouldn't be here.
" Darkness never works with light, you know it."
Cassidy grabbed his hand and held it tightly.
Her intense sea blue eyes brimmed with nothing but determination.
She held his gaze.
She had learned that one could discern what another was feeling from the eyes.
The eyes were like the gateway to the heart.
But only looking into his eyes, confusion hit her.
She couldn't read anything ( not even the slightest emotions.)
Lucas yanked her hand away from his impulsively.
His logical reasoning took over.
He was really sorry for her.
Trace of sorrow was visible in his voice.
" You should leave now."
Cassidy continued to glance at him.
" You should let me help you," she said softly.
Lucas' flared nostrils shook her.
" What if I don't want your help? It's too late to fix anything. It's too late to help me.
" I'm faded."
He slowly disentangled himself from the closeness of their bodies.
He took three steps away from her.
" A monster doesn't ever need help. Monsters live alone in this world."
" You're not what they call you, Lucas."
" You don't have to tell me what you think about me. I know you think the same way."
" Lucas, you're a good person with the biggest heart....
" ...and I know it."
She pulled towards him and placed her hand on his chest gently.
" You've everything, and it's in here."
Lucas' stern glint from his eyes softened but he grabbed her hands and pulled her further.
He threw her out of his room and shut the door.
He shook his head and growled.
" Noooooooooo."
This wasn't supposed to happen. Cassidy's tears wasn't supposed to do anything to him but it made him restless.
Outside the door, Cassidy lay there helplessly weeping as she buried her face in her hands.
***
Lucas sighed softly when he saw Cassidy lying in front of the door of his room.
She had slept off while crying and he bet she hadn't slept well.
He bent over her body and lifted her up from the floor.
He picked his steps into the room cautiously so as not to wake her and lay her down on his bed.
He felt a tender feeling surge into him. Slowly, he removed her caramel coloured hair that covered her face.
She smelled nice and warm ( like peppermint) and stretched slightly like a baby who was enjoying her sleep.
She grabbed his hand unconsciously in her sleep.
Lucas smiled at the childishness of the lady that lay on his bed.
He intertwined his fingers with hers.
There she lay innocent and he felt enchanted.
He had never looked at her face closely before. Her long lashes graced her face.
Her fragrance wafted through his nose - she smelled like his favourite peppermint and he wanted to smell her hair.
Her small lips tempted him ( he couldn't resist her charm.)
He bent over her little body to kiss her when she unconsciously grabbed his hand again.
His face suddenly lost its light.
He was only going to cause her pain and trouble, and bring tears on those beautiful blue eyes. He couldn't change it.
It was in his destiny and destiny he must fulfill.
He had worked tirelessly to have his revenge and he won't let this woman stop him from inflicting pain.
