Chapter 3 - Basic Tutorial #3

[Tutorial Tasks (Building Structures):

*Build Lvl. 1 Shelter

Rewards: 500xp, Leek Seeds x25, Watermelon Seeds x25, Fertilizer x50]

instructed the bot who had hidden back its turret and acting as if the near-death experience never happened. It was a heartless machine, and its indifference was fitting.

"Building Manual." I was shaken still, but I could only go forward.

A window popped up, very similar to the Crafting Book window interface. The only difference were the icons and the items on the list being structures.

[Lvl. 1 Shelter

Building Materials:

Lvl. 1 Shelter Blueprint + Metal Wall x8 + Metal Window x4 + Metal Pillar x4= Lvl. 1 Shelter]

I looked around my surrounding and found the location wanting. It was beset by mountains of waste on every side, a place that would be hard to defend. Not to mention an ugly site, and the air was pungent, making the place unbearable even without the danger.

The escape pod was a waste to leave behind, but I must get out from its comfort. It has a heating system, but not in any way a shelter. But I have taken a mental note to come back for it someday.

So, I decided to find a better place and to save time, mine material on every small pile of metal scraps I would encounter on the way.

The planet's star seemingly did not move one bit. Staying on its location high up in the sky, illuminating but providing little warmth. Luckily, the thick suit and the armor shielded from the cold, the wind, and the dust.

For a while, there was no change of scenery. An endless plain of barren land and waste, infested with insect and vermin.

Until after scavenging my twentieth pile, when my feet led me to a place where I could see an elevated ground loom in the distance. A plateau and although was as barren, was not as polluted.

Having obtained 200 metal scraps, I had enough materials for the tasks. So, I put my pickaxe back into the inventory and hastened towards the plateau. The bot easily matched my pace, silent as ever, only speaking when there are tasks or warnings to be given.

Oddly enough, my heavy equipment did not weigh me down. And though I have been mining nonstop, none of my muscles ached, and I was far from being tired. All of this in the light of the fact, that I was not fit in my earthly life. I was not fat, but there was not a single developed muscle in my body.

It must be the boy. I know little of his identity, even his name had not been revealed. Some of his memories were yet to be recovered. One thing was for certain, he was from a planet called Meladar, and though he looks like a human, he might not be.

My suspicions were further reinforced later on. The uphill climb towards the plateau was supposed to be challenging. The terrain was rocky and jagged. But the boy's body did just fine, being agile and having great balance.

I thought the bot would not be able to traverse the terrain. However the machine could extend its hand by several meters and could easily latch on everything jutting out. Meanwhile, I climbed, I hopped, I crawled until I was in the summit.

Up there the air was colder but fresher, and the winds were no more.

The bird's-eye view gave me a better look at the place. There were no large piles of trash within a hundred meters of the foot of the plateau. If the location was attacked, mobs would be seen from a mile away and even if they close the distance, they would be greatly slowed by the climb. Plenty of chances to deal with them using long ranged weapons.

Having assessed the place and satisfied with it, I headed straight to the crafting window. It was time to turn the scraps into building materials.

With the materials prepared, it was time to build. I summoned the building manual and selected the only one not grayed out in the list.

Out of nowhere, a transparent 3D image of the said building popped up in front of me. It came along with the option to rotate, to move and to confirm.

It was facing the wrong way, and so I rotated it to face my climbing route. I then moved it to the center of the plateau, with plans for the space surrounding it.

Then I pressed confirmed. A loud thud and a cloud of smoke.

With a flat roof and the same measurements on every side, the shelter was not aesthetically beautiful. But I found beauty in its simplicity. It was bright silver in color, reflecting the rays of the star. The surface of the walls was smooth and flat, like that of an aluminum plate.

I went inside and immediately notice that there was no flooring. Not that it mattered, as the ground was flat rock. It was about 3 meters wide and 3 meters long. On every corner was a glass paned window, which was a surprise, as glass was not in the building materials.

It was as large as my earthly bedroom and as bland as an empty storage room. But it was 'level one' for a reason.
