A year after the atomic bombs were first dropped, beings from a dimension called 'The End' appeared. They had no intention of making peace with humanity, so they proceeded to conquer areas of the planet. Soon after, another realm known as 'The Nether' appeared, making peace with Earth and promising it protection from The End. It was eventually revealed that these two dimensions have been at odds with each other for about 2000 years, and their violent encounter on Earth in 1953 created energy waves that split humanity into distinct subspecies while also restoring magic to Earth. This event was dubbed the "Cataclysm" because civilization had to be rebuilt from the ground up to adapt to the new circumstances. After a couple of years, citizens from the other 2 dimensions either immigrated or emigrated to Earth to get away from their warring home worlds. Along with them were the royal families of both dimensions, with their identities kept hidden.
One such royal is an adolescent lad, who ambles across the cold, windy road at 4:21 pm, returning home following his suspension from school. As the breeze brushes against his silver hair, his breath falters from the cold, and he looks at his destination with resolve in those fiery red eyes. He walks with remorse and doubt. As he wanders, his fair porcelain skin is marred with blood, and he can only imagine what might happen if circumstances were different.
"Dagon Jason Briggs!" his mother exclaims as he returns home. "Can you tell me about what happened to you at school?" Dagon then rushes back to have a meeting when your teacher calls—"Mom, I'll explain later," he said as he dropped his bag and scarf and went to the bathroom to freshen up. As he wipes the blood from his face, he considers how his body will never change as he looks in the mirror. Dagon then rushes back to the living room to tell his mother what had unfolded.
It's 3:30 p.m. at Empire Highschool, an interesting event was taking place in the gymnasium, as a sparring session between Dagon Jason Briggs and Damian Heinrich took place. It was exciting for all the students watching. They start discussing both Damian and Dagon as they prepare to meet one another. "Finally, a matchup between a metahuman and a normal human," one commented. "Damian may be the strongest regular human in this bout, but I don't think he'll be able to beat a Netherian like Dagon," another remarked. "Go Damian, defeat that metahuman," another cheered. These words of praise and insult filled the gymnasium, yet only two kids were invested in the outcome of this match.
"Those two, I mean, I saw them quarrel and you know how it goes." remarks a tall, dapper young man with dark purple hair, fair light skin, and both green and purple eyes, to a young adolescent lass as they observe. She's no more as tall as Dagon, with long dark chestnut hair, light ivory skin, and soothing blue eyes. "Well, I know he typically makes silly moves, but let's see if he is genuinely serious this time," she replied while drinking the boba tea.
On his way to the platform, Dagon can only think of one thing: when will I catch a break? On the way, he notices the two kids and says, "Oh, I wasn't expecting you to come." here, Dewey and Jessica." "Well, Briggs, I was wondering what would happen if you were serious about your quarrels." Dewey mocks, with a smug grin on his face. "Thanks for the compliments, dude." Dagon cynically answered. "Seriously, don't mess up on this one, man." Dewey expressed concern. "Like that Dragon Kick!" Jessica remarked as she sipped her boba tea. "Oh, come on, we don't talk about that." Dagon laughed until he was interrupted "Dagon Jason Briggs, could you please go to the platform?"; "Oh, yes, the match, see you later folks!" Dagon replied as he waved his buddies a farewell.
On the platform he faces Damian, Dagon despises him as he makes his skin crawl whenever he mocks him, his breath reeks of fear. They would usually fight but Dagon usually tries to find a way to stay out of trouble but now he believes he can give back the hits Damian gave to him. The teacher comes in and explains the rules of the match, "Imbued attacks must be below 10% magical energy, you can only use 30% of your mana in this match, destroy your opponent's chest or head mana shield, and do not go beyond the red line it counts as a loss." Dagon and Damian pressed the button on their gym shirts to summon the built-in mana shields so they wouldn't get injured in the fight. "You may now begin the match," the teacher announced.
Damian leads with a jab to Dagon's face which was blocked. He then followed with an uppercut which was promptly blocked and imbued his fist with explosive mana and does a hook-on Dagon's stomach. Dagon was filled with excruciating pain as energy imbued to the punch may have been 3% of his mana it is still pretty strong. Dagon counters with a back kick to Damian's face and follows with a flurry of punches in which Damian blocks a quarter of it. Dagon steps back and prepares to imbue his punch with about 4% of his mana but was disturbed by an elbow to his chest along with a roundhouse to the face. Dagon checks how much mana Damian's shields still have left. It was 33% on the head but 62% on the chest. Knowing this Dagon decides to a hook kick to the head, but Damian dodges and holds Dagon by the neck and knocks him to the floor. Dagon checks on his shields and notices his head only has 12% left. Scared he tries to stop Damian's punch with his fist, but it fails and he thinks he is done. Until a white tentacle measuring, 1.2 meters wrapped Damian's arm. Dagon then says, "Oh right I can use my biological abilities here." The entire gymnasium is in shock as Damian was stopped by a single tentacle. Damian cursed before getting kicked off by Dagon and soon the two begin preparing their punches both charging until 10% magical energy. Soon they clashed, Damian's punch is heading for Dagon's face, and in a split second Dagon blocked it shattering the mana shield on his left arm. Then Dagon's right arm gets fully charged with his fist set ablaze and hits Damian's chest draining all the hp on the mana shield and it shatters, Dagon wins the match but Damian feels a bit salty about losing.
Dagon soon gets to his best friends and they went out to the cafeteria for some snacks after that they went to their specific study areas. At 3:45 pm Dagon goes to his locker looking at the picture of his family together he smiles as he looks at his father. Dagon being a royal means his father is also a royal, he had been staying at the Nether for about 3 Earth years. After immersing himself in the memories, Dagon puts back the picture and closes the door. After that, he sees Damian who pins him to the wall. "Still salty about losing huh," Dagon jokes while Damian stares at him menacingly. His red hair is like a flame and his yellow eyes are similar to a beast's. "I am not here to make jokes Tentacles. I want a rematch," he demanded while clutching Dagon's hood in his hand. His breath up close makes Dagon feel more uncomfortable until he quickly made his decision. "Fine, a rematch it is," Dagon said with confidence despite knowing that he will just not be serious.
The fight went as Dagon expected, with Damian fighting seriously with him just dodging, hoping he would get tired or calm down. Until Dagon realized that he left his locker unlocked, Damian notices it and opens it. Seeing the contents he thinks of embarrassing Dagon but he decides to hopefully get the rematch he wants. Pulling out the family picture Dagon cherishes he says, "Hey Tentacles see this picture of your family and your deadbeat dad." "Hey he isn't a deadbeat he has a job in the Nether as an engineer and don't you dare rip that up," Dagon demanded. Soon rip the picture of his family was ripped apart and a burning presence fills the area. "Now you have done it," Dagon said angrily staring at Damian, who was excited, with his fierce crimson-red eyes. Soon followed a loud burning scream.
At 4:18 pm, Dewey was walking around the campus after a student council meeting and then sees a crowd of students looking shocked Dewey moved around the crowd and sees the back of Jessica's head trying to talk to someone. And there it was an unusually calm Dagon trying to calm down a frightened Damian who had burn marks on his sweaty bisque skin and a broken right arm. "Damian please try to calm down, Dagon didn't know what to do. Just let him heal you," Jessica begged. "No, get that MONSTER AWAY FROM ME," Damian panicked as he looks at Dagon's calm face and eyes with horror. Dagon pulls scissors out of his locker and cuts himself, wiping the blood on his hand. "Just let me heal you, it won't hurt," Dagon insisted calmly and wipes the blood on Damian's burns and fractured arm. Damian responded by wiping the blood into Dagon's face soon Damian's wounds healed up while his arm lost pain. Dagon then approaches Dewey and says, "Tell the teachers to suspend me for a week. I am going home." Dagon walks away leaving the torn picture on the floor.
In his living room, Dagon explained to his mom about everything. "Well at least you tried to fix him up and not just say sorry over and over again," his mother remarked, "No console and PC for you and your brother for the month," she demanded. "OH COME ON!," Dagon's younger brother shouted in the distance. "Leave Nova out of this mom he did nothing wrong it's my responsibility I should take it," Dagon assured, before going up to his room.
In his room, Dagon begins thinking if what he has done is the right thing to do and about Damian. His thoughts about why would Damian always bug him and exploit his weaknesses. The last thought he had was whether or not he made him into this. He was reflecting quietly for 30 or so minutes until a young teenage boy almost past Dagon's height with pale porcelain skin, glasses, flaming blue eyes, two horns, one short, one long at the right side of his forehead, and burning yellow hair carrying a small brown box comes into the room. "Oh hey there Nova," Dagon said to his younger brother. "Thinking about stuff again?" Nova said with a smirk. "As usual," Dagon responded. "Thanks for nothing getting me involved in your mess again," Nova said to Dagon as he sits down beside him. "No problem man just the work of the older brother," Dagon replied. "An older brother with skill issue," Nova mocks while grinning. "Wow real funny," Dagon sarcastically responded. "Anyways mom forgot to mention that dad sent a parcel to you," Nova said as he hands over the box to Dagon. "I don't get why dad sends us letters I meant we have the internet for god sake," Nova suggested. "Cell towers don't work inter-dimensionally; sometimes it's either magic or the traditional letter. Though this house needs a dimensional communicator so we can talk to dad," Dagon replied with a smile on his face. "Anyways, I gotta go back. The boys are waiting for me," Nova said before leaving the room.
When Nova left the room, Dagon took the chance to open the parcel. Inside was a bundle of newspapers from the Nether, research documents, and a black diamond-shaped object. A Dimensional Communicator, though when dad usually sends me stuff, it's usually only for me so I am going to integrate it on my phone case later," Dagon says while investigating the object. At the bottom of the box is a letter it says:
Hey Champ,
Long-time no see, I know it's been a while since we talked, so I am going to ask you various questions like "good old times."
How are you doing in school?
Are you still friends with Jessica and Dewey?
Did Damian stop bullying you?
Do you have a special someone in mind?
And I am getting carried away with this letter. Anyway, I will always love you no matter what happens. I will also tell your mother I said hello, and I will have a package delivered to her soon. I love you.
Your Father,
Magnus James Briggs.
This is still dad's usual letter but maybe that Dimensional Communicator has something for me, Dagon wondered as he brings his phone out and the Dimensional Communicator and begins tinkering with it. "Probably need these pieces, most likely don't need this, and time to begin the integration," Dagon says with confidence as he begins to integrate the communicator to his phone. After an hour he has finished, Dagon begins testing and gets a pop-up to receive mail. Curious Dagon presses it and hears a familiar voice, "Is it recording?"
