Chapter 16 - Street Demonz

They were a biker gang.

Had been from its founding many years ago.

They lived on the streets, travelling freely throughout the city to wherever they desired. A nomadic group, untethered by any restrictions or laws. They had been Kings of Gotham in the past, everyone afraid to get in their path and their battles against the GCPD were legendary, that was until Gotham changed.

Criminals who pretended to be businessmen turned the underworld of Gotham from a lawless dystopia, into their own distinct enterprises. They civilised it and in doing so, civilised the criminals of Gotham, turning them from hardened and dangerous, to weak and cowardly. Gone were the days they openly flaunted the laws and battled against the GCPD. Instead, they spent their time playing within the rules, skirting right on the very edge without ever crossing it. When they did cross that line, they paid off the GCPD instead of fighting against them.

They were a newer breed of criminal, a weaker and more pathetic breed.

But more and more bought into these new ways, only they, the Street Demonz resisted.

They proved that the old ways still worked and that fighting against the cops and against your enemies still worked. Like the old days, the crime lords who had turned Gotham into an enterprise still ducked their heads and made no threats when the Street Demonz passed through. Things may have changed, but the Street Demonz were still the same, their reputation still holding the same weight.

At the head of this biker gang, Skorp and Dallas, brothers who had been leading the Street Demonz in their greatest crusade ever. One that will destroy the False Face Society and ensure that the Street Demonz are still at the top of the food chain.

After all, not even Batman dared to face them.

Or so they thought.

As they rode down the streets of the East End, passing through the territories of the Cosa Nostra, suddenly, out of the alleyways, ahead and behind them, swerved out numerous SUVs, and stepping out of them, men dressed in animal masks with submachine guns raised at them.

Eyes widening in shock, the Street Demonz skidded, trying to get out of the way as quickly as they could, but bullets were fired. They ripped through the air, piercing through tires and ricocheting through metal. Bikes dropped, men rolled across the floor clutching bullet holes on their bodies in pain, some laid out unmoving, dead.

In a single instant, everything had changed.

Their position on the top was ripped from them in one single move, revealing that they had never been at the top in the first place. Batman never bothered with them because he had bigger fish to fry, the crime lords never dealt with them because were beneath them. They had never been the top dogs of Gotham and they had bit off more than they could chew and paid for it dearly.

Groaning out, Dallas looked up to see his brother, Skorp getting dragged up onto his knees by two masked men. Another man, wearing an expensive black suit and a black skull mask walks towards him, a pistol in one hand.

"W-wait," Dallas muttered, groaning as he tried to push himself up to his feet.

"This is what happens when you interfere with our business." Black Mask said, the barrel of the gun resting against Skorp's head, bullet ripping barreling through bone and brain matter before coming out the other end, Dallas crying out. "But you shall be spared."

Black Mask moved forwards, two men moving to hold Dallas to the ground, ensuring he could not attack their leader. "The Street Demonz work for me now." Pulling a bullet from his gun, Black Mask placed it directly in front of Dallas, his eyes focusing on it. "You, work for me now. I'll call you in a few days, it would be better for you if you pick up right away."

Hearing the door open, Jacob looked up to see David walking in, closing the door behind him. "What did the Penguin have to say?"

"He said that he was expecting us to kill the Street Demonz, but that he should have expected us to pull something like this," David said, Jacob, nodding his head in understanding. The deal he had struck with the Penguin had never actually specified what to do with the Street Demonz, certainly, it was implied they should be killed, but it hadn't.

In Gotham, specificity was important.

The reason it hadn't was more than likely because Penguin didn't care and it was because the Street Demonz were inconsequential. They were a rabble of thugs who had been given inside information, that was the only reason they had been able to cause such damage to the False Face Society. Without that information, they would never have achieved this level of success.

Killing them was unnecessary because they wouldn't be able to provide much else other than a little extra muscle. But in Jacob's experience, a little extra muscle could go a long way, besides, Street Demonz running on Venom could prove extremely useful in the future.

Though, that was something to think about a little more in the future.

"Is that all?"

"He said that White Rabbit will be making her move in a week's time, per your instructions." Jacob nodded his head in understanding, very soon, this entire thing would come to an end. However, that would only just be the beginning, Penguin had revealed some very interesting information, perhaps purposefully or not.

The information had told him that there were two sources of information leaking from the False Face Society, not just one. The obvious was the man pretending to be the opposite of Black Mask, White Mask. A lieutenant he had recruited with the assumption that in the future would betray him, Jacob just hadn't expected it to be so soon, nor so sloppily. The fact they used the Street Demonz was a poor decision, they were a freelance group, but they didn't and shouldn't have the information and skill to launch attacks of the scale they had.

It was a mistake to use them as it was clear that someone was feeding the Street Demonz inside information, especially from a higher up. Second of all, the damage the Street Demonz had caused, resulted in others pushing in on the False Face Society territories and if they performed a coup in the middle of it, that would lead to a hostile takeover from the others.

They'd lose more than they stood to gain, it was a stupid, rushed plan.

The second source of information though was a little more worrying, clearly, the recent problems of the False Face Society had led to someone else trying to perform a more subtle and effective takeover. They were doing so by reaching out to the lieutenants and trying to recruit them, not a bad idea.

Jacob however, would have waited a little longer and done so a bit more carefully as to avoid it possibly getting back to him and 'Black Mask.' As it was though, Jacob knew that there was someone in Arkham Asylum trying to take over the False Face Society and he had an idea as to who, Warren "The Great White Shark" White.

A former lieutenant to Roman Sionis before Jacob came along, he was beaten and nearly killed after a failed takeover of the False Face Society. He had since been locked away in Arkham Asylum and was trying to take over the False Face Society from there.

Not a bad idea, all things considered.

Jacob could actually admire the idea and mind behind the plan, it was just a few missteps that allowed Jacob to trace it back to him. He was the more dangerous threat than White Mask, all because he was within Arkham Asylum and until Jacob could get ahold of him, Warren would continue to prove a thorn in his side that he could not remove. A thorn he could not allow to keep pricking him while the other crime lords pushed in, they sensing weakness and capitalising on it.

But once he got rid of White Mask and Warren White, they'd back off, no longer wishing to pursue the path of war. Especially not with recent sightings of Batman, inadvertently, helping the False Face Society fight off crime families like the Falcones and Maronis.

'With White Rabbit making a move soon, I can take care of White Mask.' Jacob thought to himself. 'The question is, should I move up my schedule in order to take out Warren White or hold for a little bit longer. Certainly, Batman sniffing around is not good for me, but until he gets a little too close for comfort, perhaps I could use him for just a little bit longer, and remove a few certain weeds.
