Chapter 1 - Is this the end.....

Trying to catch my breath knowing I can't stop from I might get caught, running fast as I can in the dark woods getting grooved all over. Trying my best to see through the trees from much of the moon light peaking in from above. I can hear them close behind chasing after me from all the howling and shaking from the bushes I brushed up against. So, close It's almost I can feel their hot breath down my neck drooling for a taste of me. With the thought of that they might catch up and attack me, my eyes start to become a blur from holding back my tears. Questioning myself would this really be the end, did all my efforts become a waste and I was not able to get anyone to understand. As my legs started to feel numb from all the running, I finally saw some hope. A river right in front of me, I might be able to swim and hide my scent and go down the stream. I kept going fast as I could to jump in and try to save myself. The closer I got the moon gaze down become clearer shinning off the beautiful stream of water. I scramble into the water losing any kind of grip I had making me roll with the flow direction the water took. The water was throwing me around bopping up and down, left and right making it hard for me to gain control. I try to grab anything that I was bumping into, but the water kept pulling me off or just so slippery my fingers started to bleed from trying to hold tight onto something. The more I try to catch myself on to something It started to seem the speed of the water was increasing. As I was trying to twist my body towards direction of the flow when suddenly I felt light almost as I was floating on water. At that moment I saw beautiful full set moon in front of me, questioning is this the last thing I'll see. I started to feel myself falling with the breeze blowing thru my long hair into my face the water drops from the waterfall hitting back of my neck and ears. My eyes given up on me as I see my tears flying away from me. Closing my eyes, I started thinking of that man with the golden eyes. Going back to the promise he made me. As I drifted into a blank state recalling my life seeing this same full moon the night I was born.

I come from a small town away from the big cities, my family didn't have much but we were well off. Had food on the table and a roof over our heads. I was the only child of my family, and I was always called a blessing from the night I was born from I almost didn't make it from complications. But so, that day a witch doctor happened to be a walking by from traveling. He overheard the commotion and was able to assist and delivered me safely under this same bright full moon. He didn't ask for anything except for some herbs my mother grew in her garden and a ruby necklace with engraving "Luna". The same night he left heading to a big city from what he told my family, but we never saw him again. As I grew up learning to crop, cattle, medicine and basic living from my family I would also sneak some eggs and learn how to sword fight from the welding master. In our town we didn't have currency instead we exchange goods. If you own any currency, you were considered wealthy in our village. Most of the villagers were Humens that contain more old timers who told stories of their great grandfathers when alive of the arrival mystical creatures first came. Some were first seen as a god with healing abilities then some came with destruction and experiment only in mind and others just wanted to live peacefully. Everyone stories were different and none of the mystical creatures talk about it. I try bringing it up to the blacksmith master, but he told me long ago that's adult business and never bring it up again. He was a shorter guy from the rest of everyone and I overheard they are called dwarves. For a short guy he always wore heavy gear to look more intimidating I guess, but he never treats me as a little girl and taught me weapon skills. He also taught me in his spare time to play chess and how to stargaze and tactics. I enjoyed playing with him but never seen anyone else company him. He was hired and helped people with barns, tools and other work so never ignored but no one waited for him. He always seemed alone, and it sadden me always. When the first attack happened in our village; he sacrificed his own life to help everyone to escape from the village to the dark woods.

It was a dark night with a bright red mood shinning, I was inside helping my mother finished putting away dinner until I smelt something unusual almost like a burning smell. Before I can open the door from concern my father slammed the door opening telling my mother to grab me quick while he hurries and grabbed his weapon of a wooden bow and knife. As my mother followed my father out carrying me tight as she could we ran towards to the woods. As I'm looking back, I see our village in ablaze people screaming and running away from looks like men with thick coats of clothes attacking us. Thats when a saw the blacksmith defending some of the villagers that were corner by those people and was able to run away with his help. Not many people made it that day and my family and I were fortunate enough to find a cave to crawl under hearing our neighbors being caught and the screams of the cries echoing around us. My mother trying to cover my ears holding her breath while my father wrapping his arms around tight as if it was his last. As time gone by feeling like an eternity, my father crawled out first to check the surroundings giving my mother the okay for us to come out like a rabbit from hiding. As I popped feeling the warm sun light on me all I can smell was a strong iron smell almost as if I was tasting it. Seeing my surroundings, I see torn clothes and blood scattered around the trees and shrubs but no bodies. We stayed close to the trees not trying to be in any openings just in case something was still out there. My mother and I stayed behind while my father went ahead to what was left of our burned village and he was able to come back with some cloths for us to wear and disguise ourselves with a hoodie covering for our face and body. He said the creatures that attacked us today were called werewolves and they have a high scent of smell so we must cover ourselves especially our mouths so they cannot smell out breath nor have any blood on us they can trace. He made sure we were covered from head to toe. From all that running we got scrapped by the thorns and tress and need to hide any scratches. As he unravels all the cloths, he had brought a book in the mix. I've never seen that book before. As my eyes fixated on it, he saw me staring and explain how this book covers all the mystic creatures. That humans wrote it as time gone by that explains everything about them which ones are mostly good and bad and what to look out for and signs of creatures where abouts from woods to stay away from. As we were all covered up my family and I headed to the burning village together to scavenge up anything we could from food, clothes and money currency families were hiding. I personally went by to the blacksmiths shop and grabbed one of his precious long daggers that he had made for me, it was going to be for my 16th birthday gift 10 years from now. It had a blue handle that reflect off the same color eyes I have resembling the blue ocean waves. With a red shaft dark as my hair resembling as a ruby stone. As I grabbed one of the belts and wrapped it around my waist a note fell off. As I reached down to grab it, I saw my name written on it wrote I open it up to see "to my trusted pupil Alcmene stay strong and brave your blacksmith master and friend". I felt my eyes getting heavy and tears started to roll down my cheeks I wiped them away quick and bow down as if I could see him hammering in front of me on his anvil, that he does every day and silently thanking him hoping maybe he can hear me. I hurried off to my family to take leave to somewhere new. Catching up to them I stand between them when my father tells us "We are now going to call ourselves witches and warlock and never humans again from the attack last night we need to be careful we are not specifically getting targeted". He was a very smart man and always try to stay 2 steps ahead from any situation. Only if we all knew what we're going to face after leaving this village.
