Sun He came home that night and he felt refreshed and happy. He laid next to his lover and knew that he really had come a long way. Love was only one instant away and Sun He felt lucky that he had not missed it. His thoughts went back to Tang Jing and Cao Zhiqiang. They had walked with him every step of the way. They had been there for him when he really needed it. They forgave him even when he, himself, thought he was not worthy of their forgiveness. Sun He stared at the sleeping face next to him and felt that he really was surrounded with love. He had loving friends, a loving family and a lover who silently ingrained himself in every aspect of his life. Sun He no longer felt alone. He would no longer be alone. He was braver than he thought and he would continue to be brave. Sun He repeated those words in his head, a silent mantra to himself to bravely live and enjoy life.
Sun He's sight fell on the letter in his hands and he heaved a sigh. He looked towards the windows and stared at the rain droplets hitting the windowpanes. He could hear the torrential rain outside of his windows following the sound of his hectic heartbeat. Sun He wondered again if he was making the right decision. The streets reflected below were deserted except for the cars rushing to their destinations. The sound of the rain hitting the windowpanes, his coworkers' laughter next to him and the echo of fingers dancing on keyboards formed a chaotic melody. However, Sun He could no longer hear the noise around him. His world was quiet. His thoughts were no longer jumbled. For the first time in a while, Sun He felt at peace.
Sun He looked back at the letter in front of him. He had written the letter a week ago. From the moment he decided to print the letter and sign it, Sun He knew what he wanted to do. He always knew what he wanted to do. He grabbed the letter and headed to his department director's office. He knocked on the door and inhaled sharply after receiving permission to enter. Sun He glanced at the world outside taking courage from the chaos outside of the office's windows. He opened the door decisively. In three months, he will no longer be part of the Qin Jian Media's advertising team.
The gentle sound of music welcomed Sun He the moment he entered his apartment. He looked around and his apartment was and felt much livelier than it did nine months ago. Two different size of shoes on the shoe rack by the door. A warm meal carefully boxed on the kitchen counter. A tired man on his sofa fighting sleep to await his return. Pictures filled the walls, mapping his journey towards happiness. Sun He suddenly felt like his apartment was too small. They needed a bigger home.
The next morning, when Sun He and Gu Liwei were eating breakfast, Sun He asked Gu Liwei a question which made him choke on his food. Gu Liwei looked up at the dazzling man across from him and wondered if he had heard wrong. Sun He handed Gu Liwei a glass of water amused by Gu Liwei's surprised expression.
"Huh? Come again?" Gu Liwei winced at his less than elegant words but words seem to escape him. Sun He chuckle at the disbelief on his face and reiterated with a gentle smile. "I said how about you move in with me? You spend almost all your time here anyway, so it makes sense to move in together."
"Move in to… your apartment?" Gu Liwei asked incredulously. Gu Liwei silently pinched himself and the slight pain he felt was clear evidence that he was not dreaming. Sun He really asked him to move in with him.
"No, I was thinking we could move to a new apartment. One we would choose and decorate together. Our own apartment."
Sun He looked down and could feel his face warm up. Sun He started seeing Dr. Wong four weeks ago, and had been religiously attending therapy twice a week. Over the past four weeks, he had felt himself slowly change. Sun He had gained more confidence in himself. More confidence in his and Gu Liwei's relationship.
Gu Liwei was a constant part of his life. He wanted to build a future with him. He wanted to give his everything. He wanted to wake up to Gu Liwei, smiling, his long hair in disarray staining his pillow with its darkness. He wanted to trust in forever. Sun He wanted Gu Liwei to be close to him, always within reach for as long as their hearts beat in sync. Gu Liwei could only be his. Sun He knew he was feeling possessive, but for the first time in his life, he did not want to give way to anyone. He wanted to be selfish and capture his lover's every attention.
"How about we leave everything behind? Your past… My past… I want to create a brand new future with you. How about we build it somewhere where our past has not yet visited?"
Since the day Gu Liwei had seen Fang Cai in Sun He's apartment, he had been thinking about having Sun He move in with him. He had not liked the fact that Fang Cai could easily come to Sun He's apartment. He wanted Fang Cai to stay in the past, where he belonged. Gu Liwei knew he was jealous. Jealous that someone else besides him had ever moved Sun He's heart. Jealous that someone else besides him had known Sun He intimately. However, Gu Liwei knew his jealousy was pointless and he would never hurt Sun He because of feelings that he himself thought ridiculous. After knowing about Sun He's past, the desire to have Sun He move in with him strengthened. However, he himself had a past, and he did not want to build a future with Sun He in an apartment where his past lovers had also been. He wanted their own home. A home that they will both decide on. A home that they will decorate together. A brand new home where nobody from their past had ever been or would ever be. Gu Liwei had thought about how to approach Sun He about it. He wanted to give Sun He time. Time to rediscover himself. Time to trust in himself. Therefore, even if he really wanted to ask Sun He to move in with him, he restrained himself, waiting for the right moment. Never had he ever thought that Sun He felt the same way as he did. Sun He really was gradually walking besides him.
Gu Liwei felt joy engulfing him. He got up from his chair and embraced Sun He, touching his forehead to Sun He's. Gu Liwei stared in Sun He's eyes, and those beautiful orbs only reflected him. His fingers tightened around Sun He's waist. "Are you sure?"
Sun He felt the trembling fingers around his waist and he felt relieved. He was not the only one who was nervous. Sun He buried his red face against Gu Liwei's neck, inhaling the pine smell oozing out of Gu Liwei's body. "I am a little scared..." he started. "But I would love to move in with you."
The rain clouds parted. The pure, clean smell that follows the rain lingered in the air. People started rushing in groups as if they were waiting for the passing rain. The city slowly regained its liveliness. The moon shyly picked out his head embracing the city with his light. The dark apartment was quiet except for the sound of gasps and muffled groans. Two pairs of hands clasped together. Two bodies intertwined, swaying to the sound of a quiet music, music that only those in love could hear. The slow cadence gained momentum and it reached his peak in a frenzy of simultaneous explosions.
Sun He tremblingly stared at the man above him. "Is… Is that a yes?" He panted. His question was answered with a breathless guttural laugh. Gu Liwei lied down next to his lover, his hand covering his face. How he loved this man. He stared at the panting man next to him and could not help capturing his lips again. Gu Liwei sweetly invaded Sun He's mouth, tasting every inch of his cavity. Their tongues danced together leading to a long and intoxicating kiss. Gu Liwei released Sun He. He glanced at his lover's swollen lips, the tear streaked face, and the bright eyes following his every movement and he could not help gulping. Gu Liwei rolled back over, trapping his lover beneath him. Gentle hands parted Sun He's legs. Sun He's eyes widened and a gasp escaped him as he felt the hard and warmth touch against him. Gu Liwei sipped on his lips as he felt his lover slowly accept him. His movements stopped and he stared in his lover's eyes. "Yes, nothing would make me happier than to move in with you."
Sun He smiled. He lifted himself up slightly, clinging to Gu Liwei's neck. Their tongues clashed to the rhythm of their undulating hips. Spring really had come.
