CHAPTER FOUR – ONE LAST WISH
The remarks of the silver-haired man had reached the raven-haired man's ears which made him immediately snap from his thoughts.
"What the actual f*ck?! What the f*cking hell are you saying now?!"
'A second chance? With my memories intact? What the hell?! Does this bastard have a screw loose or something?!'
His thoughts got spiraled with confusion but tries to remain calm for a minute while processing his own thoughts.
The silver-haired man understands the confusion that is written on the raven-haired man's face but if he wants this plan to succeed then, he just needs to properly explain it.
"It is possible, and I have my own ways for that to be granted and I know what you are thinking right now… DARK PHOENIX, or should I call you by your real name instead?"
The raven-haired man, namely Dark Phoenix snapped from his thoughts as soon as he heard the silver-haired man call him by his alias as an assassin.
Dark Phoenix, his name is widely known within the Underworld Realm, and he is feared by many within that society.
Most big-time organizations wanted him as their member and they tried their best to recruit him but in the end, it went for naught.
Because he didn't want to be tied down by an organization and didn't want to restrict his freedom, so he declined a couple of offers from them.
Since those organizations didn't manage to recruit him, they wanted to kill him instead so that he won't be an obstacle to them.
Every day, his whole life is like a cat and mouse game because of those rotten organizations, and he isn't affected at all.
That is because no matter what happens, it would always be on their side that has been killed.
He snapped from reminiscing those memories as he suddenly remembered what the silver-haired man said in the latter part that caught his attention the most.
"How much do you know about me?"
If looks could kill, the silver-haired man would be dead with a piercing hole through his body the way Dark Phoenix is glaring back at him.
His voice screams cold and vicious as he let his murderous aura resonate around them as he felt threaten all of the sudden.
However, the silver-haired man isn't affected by Dark Phoenix's murderous aura as he looked back at him with a dull gaze.
"You don't need to know how much I know about you. What you should focus on right now is the offer that I am presenting to you"
He paused for a second as he continues.
"I'll give you a second chance to live with your previous life's memories intact. Remember that I save your soul before it dissipates. You owe me one"
The silver-haired man stated with a proud smug plastered on his face as he crossed his arms around his chest.
Dark Phoenix, on the other hand, got conflicted about the situation that he got into.
He doesn't know what the silver-haired man wants from him.
Why save him from disappearing?
Isn't that better? He didn't want to live anyway.
All his life, he does nothing but survive and become an assassin that everyone feared.
His hands had already been bathed with the blood of the people he killed or his enemies who tracked him down to be eliminated.
'I am tired of living. Why does this bastard try to save me? I don't have anything with me that catches his attention.'
The silver-haired man; "Don't belittle yourself. From what I have seen about your life, that should not be your life, to begin with"
Once again, that statement caught Dark Phoenix's attention.
"What do you mean?"
His tone is no longer that cold and vicious from earlier but rather a confused yet firm tone can be heard from his mouth.
"For that one, I can't say anything about it. I'm sorry"
Dark Phoenix raised an eyebrow because of the silver-haired man's odd statement.
It would seem like the silver-haired man knew something, but it looks like he couldn't spill anything that he knows.
'Now this is getting interesting if you ask me.'
"However, if you want answers to your questions, you just need to consider my offer to you. Who knows, along your journey, the answers you are seeking will be unveiled"
Dark Phoenix isn't a stupid one to fall into such cheap tricks but then again, he thinks about the offer.
Something inside his thoughts sparks into realization.
'Wait a second. I just noticed that this bastard could seem to read my thoughts clearly or am I just being paranoid?'
The silver-haired man chuckled; "Yes, I can hear your thoughts so stop badmouthing me. Alright?"
Dark Phoenix; "!!!"
He didn't want to accept the silver-haired man's offer but when he said something about his life, he couldn't help but question it.
Why is it that all his life is nothing but misery, misfortune, and bloodshed that happen to him?
« … Who knows, along your journey, the answers you are seeking will be unveiled… »
It's a tempting offer for Dark Phoenix because of the silver-haired man's statement about his life.
Not just that, according to the silver-haired man, Dark Phoenix would retain his previous life's memories intact the moment he accepted the silver-haired man's offer.
In Dark Phoenix's case, it would be alright for him if he didn't have his previous life's memories since there aren't any pleasant memories that he had during the time he lives as an assassin.
But without his previous life's memories intact, Dark Phoenix would be at disadvantage.
To start over a new life… a second chance that is being offered to him…
He didn't choose to be an assassin in the first place but if he's going to have a second chance and choose to live peacefully, it wouldn't be that easy.
Since it's already in his nature that he's surrounded by nothing but bloodshed and threats all through his life.
'Having my previous memories would be an advantage for me just in case.'
"But…"
Dark Phoenix snapped from his thoughts when he heard the silver-haired man's voice, but he paused his sentence for a while.
Before the silver-haired man could speak, Dark Phoenix cut him off first.
"There is no free lunch in this world, even in life and death. I know that. You're not going to offer this for free so let me hear what you wanted first"
The silver-haired man got startled by the sudden bluntness coming from Dark Phoenix's statement, but he immediately regained his composure as he chuckled.
"I knew that you are the one. I didn't regret my choice"
The silver-haired man mumbled to himself, but Dark Phoenix has a sharp hearing and heard what the other man mumbled.
But Dark Phoenix didn't say anything as he waited for the silver-haired man to laid out his condition first.
"I have a favor to ask. This… this will be my last wish"
Dark Phoenix didn't need to look up to see the silver-haired man's expression since he could tell that his voice cracks like a fragile glass with every word that he spoke.
He doesn't understand emotions at all since he is an assassin and emotions are nothing but a hindrance to his job.
However, he might not understand a thing about sentiments, but Dark Phoenix could tell by the silver-haired man's words that holds a deep burden inside him.
"What's your last wish? Let me hear it"
