It had been 6 days since the king and his forty-thousand soldiers had left for the war. No message had been received declaring the aftermath of the war. The whole Nation was shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere. If the war was lost, everyone would have to face the circumstances. The Kingdom of Extor, their enemy, was an extremely strong kingdom with almost three times the soldiers as that of Elgard. If the war was lost, their whole country would be plundered.
The King of Extor didn't fight for land, he fought for prosperity. He would just conquer a land, plunder its cities, and leave it for good. This way, he was able to make a strong as well as an extremely prosperous kingdom, which was easy to administer.
On the other hand, Klinton, the King of Elgard, had a completely different reason for his conquests. He would battle to expand his territory, make more trade routes, invest the kingdoms money in his military, and enhance trades with other countrie. To him, it was more of a game than real life, and he enjoyed it.
The only thing common between Klinton and The King of Extor, was that they were both ruthless and cunning in their conquests(though Klinton was a bit less brutal). Thousands of men, women, and children were either killed or displaced after these battles. While The King of Extor would leave the conquered land to suffer, Klinton would include the territory into his kingdom and help it prosper once again. It was like uprooting a tree and replanting it again in a different place.
People would often wonder what a contrast he was to his father. When Klinton's father used to rule, he would mainly focus on living peacefully and trying to get into alliances with his neighboring kingdoms. He would get into matrimonial alliances with strong kingdoms and gain some land in return. He would always warn his son that his agressive and brutal ways will always have a way of coming back to him. He had three sons. The youngest of the three brothers was Klinton.
A few years before his death, Klinton's father divided the kingdom into three provinces and given each of the province to the princes to rule. While the two elder brothers inherited their father's peaceful qualities, Klinton grew to be a harsh contrast to his brothers nature. He was aggressive, tough, intelligent, a good warrior. All in all, he had all the necessary traits of a great conqueror. He often thought his brothers were absolute fools, because being older, their father had given them more territory and more resources, yet, they wouldn't utilize them for the battlefield. This, ultimately led to their death at the hands of Extor when the King of Extor suddenly decided to go on a continental conquest. Klinton's brothers were both unprepared, and had little knowledge in the combat. This was partially why Klinton wanted to defeat Extor so badly; he wanted revenge.
