Chapter 25 - Morals

He was still stewing several hours later when he heard the sounds of a distant chatter, after hitting himself furiously on the solid door made with oak his shoulder became sore.

His room was not like any regular prisoners room , A four poster bed stood to one side of the room, with a wash hand adjacent . A sea chest containing nothing more than spare bed spreads was set in a corner , and a desk was left to the locked door, with one chair to sit on .

Now the noise of happy buccaneers letting loose came fairly to his ears from the direction of the beach . He opened the doors and stepped out on the terrace to see. One thing he could say ; he had a terrible view from the fortress of hers. He could see the whole of the beach and the cove , and the trees just below , as well as a magnificent span of aqua coloured ocean . With twilight begining it's descent , the western sky was filled with all the colours of the spectrum , from fiery reds to deepest violet , with orange , pink , and blue in between it was simply gorgeous.

But he did not feel like appreciating things like sunset just now . Not when the pirates lay sprawled on the beach , torches and cook fires burning , carousing loudly and with a vengeance. Probably toasting his downfall. He wanted to kill them , one and all , for being happy at a time like this.

Disgusting people, he thought , debauching themselves day and night like animals. He saw a man grab one of the island women , and while she shrieked with laughter, he pulled her down to the sand with him, The man put his hands into the woman's body , exposing her breast for all to see. She did not seem to mind . And where was Captain Thorne in the midst of all these? She had not come into view yet.

He realized he was waiting to catch a glimpse of her and cursed him self, but he did not move . For a good while there was no trace of her, but then a shout went up . The pirates were calling her name with great gusto . Daniel told himself he was merely waiting to see if the wench would take one of her men to her bed;. to see if her morals were as lose as he suspected they might be, but when Captain Thorne came into sight , his breath caught in his throat for a long time.

Arriving from the pathway down the beach , her steps was long and graceful , her braided hair swung down her back to her hips a d caught the firelight , gleaming like burnished copper. She wore the full - sleeved shirt well , he thought it's collarless design showing off her long neck to good advantage , and those legs he thought were a crime if let loose.

Daniel felt all the hate he had for Captain Thorne melting away, She was absolutely radiant . And he wanted, suddenly , to be down on that beach with her. All his years of cultured upbringing seemed to disappear in seconds , and he longed to forget society and mingle with the rest ----- or better still Thorne alone .

He watched as she seated her self among the other pirates , playing knucklebones he didn't know who was wining but from the patting on the back that Captain Thorne received he knew she has the upper hand,. He saw her taking a gulp of the rum that was being passed around and winced as the alcohol burned her throat and passed it to the next man.
