Goddamn their black souls to the lowest hell!, Lynnette fairly screamed ,. "I was sure I had them " Her body was trembling with near uncontrollable rage , Harry , spoke soothingly .
" Captain , there was nothing you could do ! how would you know that there will be two warship trailing Lord Roger's frigate ?
Not even you could face such odds and come out victorious , you had to let them pass".
"But he never had warships before ! There's no news of this from the other captain , Unless ....." her greened eyes narrowed.
" Unless it was a trap ", concluded the first mate, only seconds behind her
" Of course ! Lord Roger knew I was getting information on his trading schedule from his captain's, so he fed me lies through then ! I should have killed them to ensure the couldn't report back ," she muttered .
"I will bet that bastard wasn't even aboard the ship", Harry said slowly visibly thinking it through.
" You're probably right , The man has never decided to oversee his shipping personally before this, so why should he start now?
I think he thought the rumor of his presence would flush me out right quick ; straight into the arms of warships ",
" He almost succeeded , captain said Harry ," it was plain luck we spotted the first warship' and that we were able to flee before the other got us pinned between them,
" Am thinking ' Hard luck alone , Harry replied captain Thorne , slightly stung , it was our superior speed and agility that saved us "
" And a good leader as well ,", he said soothingly
Lynnette accepted the compliment absently , her mind was still fixed angrily upon her nemesis , " Lord Roger has many more up his sleeves , it seems we have to tread more carefully in the future ".
She thought about their close call, lately , destroying Lord Roger's shipping trade had been growing harder . As Lynnette ruined his business , the man grew more and more desperate to get rid of threat she posed ,
" I am going to my cabin," she said to Harry , Take over , Tell the men I am not to be disturbed ".
" Aye , Aye, captain"
Still furious and frustrated , she stalked below decks to her cabin . Hours later, her mood had not been lightened one bit .
When a knock came on her door , followed by Davie's face " Captain "? Lynnette was hardly pleased . Yanking the door open , she scowled down at the young boy's timid face .
" Didn't I leave word I was not to be disturbed ?" she snapped
"Aye , Captain , but ---"
" So what I wonder what , I wonder what could be so important that you would go against my express orders do that very thing ? She mused in a tone of silky menace.
The boy swallowed audibly , and Lynnette suppressed a surge of guilt , She knew she should not be taking her anger out on Davie , who was probably still shaking from her previous wrath on the day he played his little joke . The boy was now half finished now with his punishment , and in his eyes she saw the fear that his captain would add another month to his sentence , sighing , Lynnette raked her hands through her long hair and smiled encouragingly at the lad.
" Since you've already disturbed me , might as well tell me what brought you here ".
Davie spoke excitedly . A ship , Captain ! A fat merchant , by the look of her! she's riding so low in the water she can barely sail."
