Johnny and his men watched as the German soldiers were gearing up and loading into transport trucks going to the town. He guessed that at least seventy percent of the German forces on base were being deployed to check out the explosion. As he looked around, he realized that they would have to breach the main headquarters to cause any real damage. Johnny looked over his men and addressed them.
"Okay, men here's the situation. We must take out the main headquarters if we want to do any real damage, such as destroy and copy their documents. We have one shot to do this and any mishaps from any one of us and we could all end up dead." He said.
Each and everyone knew that they had to succeed in this mission because the documents they were tasked to secure were too important for the Germans to keep.
Tyler had a thoughtful look on his face before his face lit up and he told Johnny of his plan, "All right sarge I may have a plan. We could have one of us stay and set a charge at this barracks, causing another distraction and decreasing the number of guards, guarding the headquarters. The rest of the squad would sneak around, using the barracks as cover." Johnny thought about the idea.
"Sounds like a good idea, however, where would the person who set off the charges go?" Johnny questioned. Tyler thought for a second before responding,
"I'm thinking that they could either fall back and find us a good spot to get out of this place undetected or they try and meet back up with the group in headquarters."
The group murmured a choir of the agreement for the second idea. With the plan settled Johnny volunteered to set off the charges and meet back up with the rest of the group.
"If I don't make it to you guys after thirty minutes of the detonation, I want Tim to take charge of the group if you ever find them." He said.
Everyone nodded solemnly before getting ready to run to the next barracks, making sure that they were clear before sprinting off. Johnny sighed and took off his pack and took out two different charges. He decided to detonate one and use the other as another distraction for him to escape. Getting everything set, he grabbed some matches from his pack and closed it, proceeding to ignite one of the charges, quickly running the same direction his squad went in earlier. He made it to the other barrack before a sudden bang signaled the detonation. Looking back, he could see a hole in the wall at least twice his height. Continuing his path to the headquarters, he stayed on the walls of the barracks and kept checking to make sure no one saw him. Once he reached the headquarters his heart dropped a bit.
The group consisting of Willi, Tyler, George, and Thomas made their way to the headquarters, hiding every so often from the occasional German trooper running past. As they were at the last barracks until headquarters, an explosion was heard followed by shouting. Willi peeked around the corner to see multiple German soldiers running on the road towards where they first started, guns out and ready. Willi went back around the corner, looking at each of the other members, each knew that Johnny would make it.
The group got a good look at the entrance of the headquarters. There was a gate blocking the entrance two guards guarding it, but that could be dealt with easily. There were two separate towers with two German soldiers in each, one for each corner. The headquarters itself was two stories in height but could have been further underground.
"I want Tyler and George to focus on the men in the tower, while Thomas and I take out the guards in front. After you finish, I want everyone to rush to the gate and well hold position there." Willi told the group before continuing, "When we fire the first shots, the Germans will know where we are, so I want Tyler to cover our back after you take care of the tower."
Tyler nodded before responding, "Got it sarge, I won't let you down."
Everyone got ready in their positions, Tyler aiming for the closest tower, while George aiming at the tower farthest since he had an M1917 Enfield, the American bolt-action rifle. Willi and Thomas both aimed at a German defending the gate, Thomas taking the German on the left, Willi getting the one on the right. The first one to fire their gun was George, hitting one of the Germans in the head with one shot. No one seemed to react before a hail of gunfire erupted from the group. The Germans defending didn't even have a chance to pull up their weapons before they dropped to the ground.
"Quickly, get to your defending positions!" Willi yelled at the group.
Everyone hurriedly ran to the gate and set up a mini perimeter.
