Lady Leanna was pacing around the room furiously. The room was filled with her aura as the woman kept switching between resentment and screaming in agony. Sometimes she'd just fall down on the ground listlessly to shed tears.
Her brother was dead. Her elder brother whom she adored to no end died at the hands of that despicable witch. What should she do? She wanted to go strangle the bitch to death. No, that'd be an easy death for her. She wanted to kill her by dismemberment.
Each of her limbs being pulled in the four opposite directions and thus tearing off, the mere imagination soothed her burning heart to a great extent. That's what that monster deserved for killing her beloved brother.
He was such a powerful alpha. He had great aspects in the future and could ascend to be a minister in the future. He held so much influence in the imperial court and was appreciated by the emperor that she was sure he could help her husband take over his father's legacy as well.
Alas! That influential brother of hers was gone too soon. That monster killed him. The duchess had no idea how he reached there instead of the beta she had arranged to be there that night. But no matter what, she shouldn't have killed him. He was a man, a high alpha. She could have run away or shout for help. Or she could ask him him respectfully to leave. But no, she opted to give him a painful death despite knowing fully well that he was her brother.
An image of her brother's roasted body flashed past her eyes and the woman puked. How evil hearted could that cursed omega be to enjoy watching the man writhing in pain in front of her eyes. Her heart was filled with hatred. The feeling of helplessness made it worse for her. Even screaming at the top of her lungs couldn't relieve her heart of the suffocating resentment.
She had wanted to kill that girl right away. The Einar family had a status in the city that no other family held. They had the authority to run trials and punish the offenders in their own courtroom if the crime was committed on the premises of their property.
Before they could even officially invite some respectable people from the city to bear as the witnesses of the trial, the patriarch of the Einar family suddenly came back from his expedition. The old man doted on his granddaughter endlessly and had been saving her from punishments since forever and this time was not an exception.
Not only did he force the entire audience to keep standing in that omega's courtyard in the freezing cold alongside the heap of presents he had brought home, but also insisted that his granddaughter was innocent and did all the cruel things in her defense. She hated him for that.
The night was spent like that. The duchess kept trying to get to the filthy Omega to kill with her bare hands but her husband and despicable stepson kept pulling her back; one was a coward who couldn't stand up to his father and the other took pleasure in her misery.
In the end, patriarch Einar announced his decision that Aurelia wouldn't be held accountable for her brother's murder. He also ordered to prepare carriages right away and declared that duke Jehl and duchess Leanna would be taking the high alpha's dead body back to the capital where his funeral would be arranged.
A messenger was sent to bring the news to her maternal family right away while the duchess waited for the preparations to be made. Her maids packed her belongings. Leanna was still sitting on the ground when her chief maid helped her up and guided her towards the bath they had prepared. The woman kept going through the things in trance.
The only thing that occupied her mind was revenge. She was a duchess and still so helpless. She couldn't avenge her brother who died unjustly at the hands of a cursed omega. A filthy, lowly being was able to murder her mighty brother and got away with it. She spat blood.
This was not the end. She'd make sure to avenge her brother and make that wretched jinx regret her actions.
When the guards announced that carriages were ready, the duchess went out with a cold face. She was escorted to a custom made huge carriage. Inside the carriage was devoid of seats and its floor was covered in soft mattresses covered in white sheets according to the custom.
In the middle of the carriage was placed her brother's body which was secured with many clothes that disappeared in the slits on the carriage floor around his body and were tied under the floor, thus keeping the cadaver from moving a lot. According to the custom, the duchess was to accompany her brother to the Capital city while sitting on the floor of the carriage by his side and mourn.
Exhaustion took over her at the thought of having to sit in a cramped place with a dead body. Yes, he was her brother and she wanted to avenge him. But that didn't mean she'd have to sacrifice her comfort and stay alone with a deformed dead body whose sight left goosebumps on her skin.
She wanted to flee but couldn't and eventually resigned to her fate and sat by the place near his feet, staying as far away as possible to avoid touching him. This was another thing she'd hate the omega for. As the carriages moved and left the Einar estate, the duchess kept cursing seven generations of the Einar family for the sorry condition she had to sit in order to bring her brother's body back to her maternal family.
She was not concerned about her brother's body or the love she was supposed to have for her brother. She loved her brother, of course, but all of that was for her own selfish reasons and even her wish to avenge her brother had more to do with the duchess's ruined plans. On the bumpy ride to the capital, which was not so bumpy thanks to the Einar estate's luxurious carriage, the woman kept thinking of the ways to get rid of the jinxed omega as well as find an alternative that could help her with the old man into giving up his position for her son.
Her husband following her in another carriage was the least of her priorities. Instead of entrusting everything in that coward's hands, she'd prefer taking care of everything through her son.
