Rose was spouting whatever came to her mind to convince Miss Aurelia. She had heard a lot about the cursed omega of the Einar family. It was said that she was born without a mate mark. She had a strangely toxic aura. Omegas of their world were the weakest creatures. They were werewolves only in name and were no match in power to betas much less alphas.
However, this young miss from Einar mansion had such a lethal aura that it was fatal for both vampires and werewolves. Even high alphas felt suffocated in her presence and countless times she ended up killing some powerful people with her aura only. What was known as a defect, was a serious threat to the lives of people around her. She was a jinx, limited to her courtyard and ordered to never come out of the place until called for.
Every time she had company, she intentionally released her aura that ended up damaging the other party. Strangely, her aura wasn't harmful to omegas. Still, no maid or servant agreed to work at her courtyard. More like, her aunt manipulated the situation to strip her of any luxuries and blamed it on her nature.
The only servants young Miss Aurelia had were an old lady who used to be her mother's lady in waiting and an omega maid. After her mother's death, the elderly woman and some other maids stayed by her side until they were kicked out by little Aurelia under different excuses. Now, she was only left with her two loyal maids who tried their best to accommodate the young miss with everything in their power.
However, the two were not enough to take care of everything which included cleaning, meals, looking after the gardens and renovation as well as attending to the young miss day and night. Aurelia often ended up helping them with some duties and told them to abandon the lawns completely. Due to her reputation, the workers never agreed to fix the building in fear for their life.
Aurelia's aunt, who'd kill anyone for not obeying her commands, became the just lady who didn't want to force the workers or put their lives in danger. As a result, the building of the quarter deteriorated over the years.
She caused no harm to the omegas but people still tried to avoid her. Rose, however, had some other plans. This young miss who was considered the weakest creature in this kingdom with no ability to shift and no mate mark coupled with an eroded aura, was actually the invincible one. Her aura was enough to keep the danger away since the fear of unknown was greater than the fear of known.
And Rose figured that if she wanted to work in this mansion safely, it was only under young miss Aurelia. She was greatly inspired by the young lady. In her eyes, the curse upon Aurelia was actually a blessing in disguise. The courage and control she had in herself was enough for Rose to deem the young lady as her idol.
She not only wanted to serve her, but also learn some valuable lessons on life from her. In Aurelia she saw both a master and a mentor. The way she was able to kick an alpha out of her quarter and subdue madam Leanna made Rose admire her. She stood there in fascination, watching the most powerful people of the city be humiliated and made speechless and run for their lives by a defected omega.
This young lady here had the vigor to live with honor and she wanted to be a part of such a person's life.
Rose didn't know for how long she stayed quiet, lost in her thoughts. She came back to her senses upon hearing a soft murmur from her idol, "follow me."
Aurelia moved past her quietly and went inside her quarter. She was immediately followed by Rose who was afraid that she might change her mind. The living building of the quarter was in the middle of four walls with a main gate. The gate was long destroyed leaving the yard open with no guards.
When Rose climbed the four stairs to come face to face with the main building's wooden door, she silently prayed to the Divine Lord to help her convince her idol. It was really important for her safety. Today's few minutes with the guest alpha had made her realize her vulnerability. If she wanted to continue her job, she was only safe with someone who was unapproachable to others.
Stepping in the lounge-like room, she saw her protector sitting on a cushioned chair, that had lost its shine, by the back window. To her right hand were two rooms and on the left was a kitchen and perhaps a storeroom. The lounge was an open space in the middle which was decorated in a way that it could be used as both; a sitting lounge as well as a drawing room.
Condition of the building inside was not that bad. It was a small but cozy place with adequate furniture and facilities. The furniture was old and its polish didn't have a luster like rest of the furniture in the Einar household had. The maids had probably kept it in good condition with a home prepared varnish. There was a big glass window in the wall that gave a view to the small backyard in the daytime. The glass was broken and the wooden frame of the window had lost its shine.
And while it was unfortunate, the young miss and her maids used it as a luxury in summer days when the wind crossed over. However, in the freezing cold nights like today, an inadequate effort to block the cold was made with the help of a bamboo screen that aunt Feng and Roma had woven themselves.
Right now, Aurelia was sitting beside the screened window. Wood crackled in the fireplace in the adjacent wall.
"Come here."
Rose moved forward slowly. Even aunt Feng and Roma, who were busy in the kitchen preparing for the dinner, came out to see what was going on.
