Chereads / The Crown's Mundane / Chapter 71 - Duel

Chapter 71 - Duel

"You're still asleep", old age spoke. He was at the door looking into the room . This woke Alvah up unintentionally

He looked at the old sage whose eyes were stuck on him.

"Get ready and get to training". He ordered. "Okay," Alvah replied getting up from the bed.

" I do not want to do this, I'm done with this, he's good with the training afterall", Vida shouted at her grandpa.

He said to her, " He's good but I want him to be perfect".

"Grandpa!". "She's back to how she was", he muttered under his breath.

" I've told Alvah to get ready, he did not argue with me, what's wrong with you?". It made no sense to him how a stranger could be more obedient.

" Fine, I'm coming". She stood up walking to the bathroom. The last thing she wanted was to be compared with Alvah.

Old sage sighed softly leaving the room

He went to prepare breakfast for the both of them. A few minutes later, Alvah came out from his room and he looked weak.

"Are you okay Alvah?". Old sage asked realizing Alvah's current state.

"I'm okay". Alvah replied with a hoarse voice.

"Have something to eat before you get sick". He advised assuming he was only down in health because he isn't eating properly.

"No thank you". " No, you have to eat something". He urged.

" Why do you force him to eat, seems to me he's doing just fine without eating". Vida spoke with no concern about him.

Alvah looked at the girl talking. ' What is wrong with this girl?' he thought to himself.

"Watch your language", old sage warned with a fiery gaze.

" Grandpa I didn't come here to be ruled by someone just because the person is older, she picked up her plate".

Old sage looked at Alvah who was already looking at him like he was tired of warning him that she doesn't need caution

Alvah said to himself, ' this isn't the person I spoke with last night, is she always like this?'.

" What do I expect from you, you can't even respect me who is years older than you, how would you respect someone who is just a year older?".

"Exactly", she didn't deny it.

"Just because it's a year doesn't mean I can't put you in your place". Alvah spoke with his eyes slowly shifting from the ground to her eyes.

"You can't". she said glaring at him.

"You dare me". He spoke darkly.

"Stop it!". Old sage quickly spoke to end the conflict.

Alvah spoke, " I will give you a reason to respect your grandfather".

Old sage looked at him, thinking deeply. 'Why does he care this much?'

" If I feel anything you say to old sage is offensive, I would...."

"Alvah", old sage called his name.

He looked at old sage in the eye. Old sage avoided his contact leaving the dining room angrily.

Alvah asked Vida as soon as old sage left.

"What's your problem, you were just fine yesterday, does someone visit you?".

She responded, " I can't be the same everyday". she said this and left.

Alvah went to old sage's room, without knocking, he opened the door.

He walked to the bed where he was seated with his face down in disappointment.

"You are holding me back". Alvah said to end this thoughts.

" From what?, beating up my granddaughter or teaching her a lesson".

"Both". He responded hesitantly.

Old sage said that jokingly, but judging from Alvah's expression he wasn't joking in the slightest.

Old sage said to him. " I know her disrespect towards you is provocative as you rank in Tartarus and her powers are of no match to yours.

To be honest, disrespect and stubbornness has always been her problem but not to her brother".

" She acts like she's insane, what's wrong if she is nice to people".

"She's not insane Alvah but...." He couldn't complete his statement.

"But...."

"But nothing", Alvah interrupted.

" I will settle with her not for myself but for you. If your grandson cant be here to make you happy, why then the one who is here cause you anger".

" Like I said earlier, if I feel what she says to you is offensive in the slightest, I will take care of her for you". He stood up and left the room.

Old Sage, despite what his daughter does to him, is in no condition to see his own grandchild get beaten up

Alvah, he should leave by now but still wants to get this learning over with and leave, is there really no in he can learn from or he just wants to test his capability or hers.

What if she really isn't worthy, she just wasted his time. He might really harm her for that. I have to talk to her.

He left to her room, he opened the door speedily. " There is no time I come to see you and you aren't sitting down looking furious".

She took in a deep breath.

" Do you think you are deserving to Alvah?". He asked sitting down.

She looked at her grandfather, surprised at what he just said. " Are you serious right now grandpa?".

" If what you teach him is not to his desire, don't you think he will pay you back for the time you cost him".

" So you only act like this because you are scared he is greater than you, he is in where he belongs".

" It doesn't matter where he belongs I am still greater, I've got rank and status". she said with a hint of fear in her voice.

"Then prove it to him".

"I'm not doing that", she replied quickly

"This is why you can't get married. Try looking closely at people and you might actually get a suitor". He used this opportunity to blurt his mind.

"You always speak about my marriage". She really doesn't get why he pesters her on this issue.

" Why shouldn't I?, is there something you are hiding?". He asked with a raised brow.

" I don't want to talk about it, just go, leave my room". Her voice was a bit harsh.

He quickly left the room for her to be in peace.

Two weeks had passed, Alvah turned a blind eyes to what was going on which made old sage worried.

Alvah wasted this time instilling and calming his energy as vida kept worsening it

Old sage couldn't even approach Alvah at this moment, for how long would I apologize to him, he said

One month passed by, Alvah heard nothing from her. He as well refused to cross path with her because he was afraid of what he would do to her.

One month and a half passed, but old sage couldn't stay quiet anymore, he went to speak with Alvah in the morning of a new day.

He kelt on apologizing to Alvah about his grand daughter's attitude.

What provoked Alvah the most was that she left during this period. And that her grandfather kept on apologizing for half a month.

He promised old sage that if she came back here, he wouldn't hold back at her. He forced old sage to promise him, old sage had no other choice.

In the third week of the second month, she returned

Alvah wasn't around, she opened the door. Old sage was in the living room. She thought that Alvah had returned back to Tartarus, so she didn't bother to ask about him.

Old sage didn't know if to tell her what Alvah said he would do to her, he just let her relax.

When Alvah returned, he opened the door. She wondered who it was. She was having dinner with old sage when her eyes came in contact with Alvah's.

She broke the contact between them. " I didn't expect your student to have this much patience". She said not looking at him but referring to him like he was ignorant.

Alvah smiled knowing that old sage told her nothing.

She felt something moving on her skin. Just before she could realize what she felt she saw chains heading towards her neck.

She dashed quickly to Alvah throwing a fist at his face. He teleported behind her. When she turned around she saw him.

She retreated backward creating a distance.

Alvah spared a glance at old sage and he didn't seem to he happy.

A thought crossed his mind. He relaxed a bit and spoke. " Let's have a duel".

She rather listened carefully.

" I will duel with you, if I win you will train me without argument, complain and to my satisfaction".

She then asked, "What if I win?".

He replied, " If you win, I will leave you and old sage and return to Tartarus".

She fell silent for a brief moment. "No, I don't like that".

" What do you want then?".

" If I win, you will bow at my feet and apologize to me, before you leave".

He raised a brow at her, he didn't like the deal but he did that for old sage's sake.

This was not how he had planned for her return.

"Deal. Old sage is our witness". Alvah looked at him with a blank expression.

" Grandpa, we'll duel tomorrow, fine with you?".

He nodded slightly.
