Chapter 5 - Reward

"Awooooo…" The hellhound let out a painful cry as Tristan removed his eye and threw it away with the insides.

Not wasting any time Tristan did the same thing with all eyes of the hellhound. The hellhound grew weaker and weaker the more he lost his blood along with his eyes.

"Take that you double headed dog!!" Tristan said while lifting his bat and hitting the head of the hellhound non stop.

By the time Tristan had removed all of his eyes there was no will of fighting remaining within the hellhound.

That's why he was completely at the mercy of Tristan and Tristan wasn't benevolent enough to let it stay alive.

[+300 Exp!!]

[Level up!!]

Well, the exp was worth the struggle and pain Tristan went through.

When Tristan got the message that he finally killed the hellhound he sighed in relief and fell on the ground with his back facing the ground.

"Ah, it hurts…" Tristan said but his sentence didn't match with the smile on his face.

This was Tristan's first fight against a monster much stronger than him. Of course he was triumphant over his victory.

Tristan lay down on the rough sandy ground for a few more minutes before sitting up and looking around his surroundings.

There was the dead body of the hellhound lying on the floor, lifeless.

To Tristan's surprise there was something else except for the body of the hellhound. It was a mysterious golden treasure chest.

At least it looked like one. It was floating in midair where Tristan killed the hellhound.

Tristan simply walked towards the hellhound and reached near the chest.

[Would you like to open the reward for killing the gatekeeper (mid-boss) Lesser Hellhound?

Yes/No]

Tristan understood what this chest was. He smiled and said yes without much thought.

'Yes'

The golden chest bursts open while some objects fall on the ground.

Tristan was extremely excited to check the contents but he decided to go step by step without any hurry.

The first item was a glass bottle the size of Tristan's fist with some glowing blue water. It was some sort of potion.

[Minor healing potion

Rank :- D

Description :- The potion would heal all the minor or recoverable injuries.]

'Maybe the dungeon knows that the person fighting against the hellhound will definitely get hurt, that's why they kept a healing potion.' Tristan thought while opening the bottle and chugging it down.

It tasted just like normal water but just way more refreshing and tasty.

The injury which Tristan had sustained on his right hand got covered in a bluish light and healed fast enough to be noticed by naked eyes.

After a few seconds the injury was completely healed and Tristan felt his hands were as good as new.

Tristan then looked at the other item which was a parchment the size of a sticky note. It had a magic circle in orange colour.

[Ember Weapon :-

Rank :- B

Description :- Use the parchment on any weapon found in the dungeon. The weapon will ignite while being used in combat.]

Now this was what Tristan would call a boss killing reward. This alone would give a huge head start to Tristan.

Though it was a shame that Tristan won't be able to use it until he gets a weapon from the dungeon.

Tristan was happy with the reward even though it was not useful, yet.

That was the only thing he got from the chest that's why he decided to loot the hell hound now.

Tristan faced his palm of the right hand towards the direction of hellhound and thought :-

'Loot'

The body of the hellhound went through the same phenomenon as the zombie hellhounds as the body of the hellhound including the blood and eyes vanished.

[Looted items:-

Monster core ×1

Eyes of Hellhound ×4

Abyss essence ×1]

This time the only thing that changed was that instead of fangs there were four eyeballs who were the same as that of the hellhound.

Except for that instead of undead essence there was Abyss essence. Tristan knew what this essence was but he never thought that he would find one of the rarest essences just like that.

[Monster core :- Lesser Hellhound

Rank :- E

Description :- This monster core will give you +10 in Agility stat.]

"Now this is even more rewarding." Tristan thought with a greedy smirk.

[+10 Agility!!]

Without wasting a single second Tristan consumed the core or more precisely he only said yes and the core burst into particles and merged with Tristan.

[+20 Vitality!!]

Tristan also consumed 20 more Vitality cores he had stored in his backpack. With that he only had 10 more stored in his backpack.

Tristan snacked on two more protein bars because even though he might not feel hungry right now nobody knows what might happen across the door.

After eating till his stomach was full Tristan decided to take a short nap because he remembered someone saying.

During battle you should eat and sleep whenever you get a chance, who knows when you will be called to fight again.

After a short nap of an hour Tristan decided that it was finally time to move on towards his next target.

He hung his bag on his shoulder and checked his status one more time before continuing.

[Name :- Tristan

Race :- Human

Existence Level :- 4

Class :- none

Intelligence :- 55

Vitality :- 75

Agility :- 45

Mana :- 45]

Tristan recognised that his vitality was growing more than that of his other state but he didn't care about it much.

He knew this and that is the reason why he chose this dungeon as his dungeon.

Before growing stronger he needed as many chances as possible that he would survive.

By increasing his vitality he was not only increasing his physical strength but also making his body more resistant against both internal and external attacks.

After all, surviving is way more important than fighting. This is a trick Tristan had learned through gaming.

Tristan walked towards the direction of the door and stood before it, face to face. Tristan was again surprised by the size of the door.

'So how do I open it…?' Tristan thought and touched the door.

Little did he know that he didn't have to do anything much.

The moment Tristan touched the door the door opened with a spooky voice.

*cri iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii k*

Tristan felt a cold chill running down his spine when he saw the insides of the door.

Even though it was just a huge hallway it was somewhat spooky but not enough to change Tristan's path.

Though he found it a bit weird he didn't think much about it and just went inside.

Tristan kept walking in the hallway but his forehead and armpits were drenched with sweat.

'First fear and now nervousness. This place really is weird….' Tristan thought while looking around the hallway.

There was nothing much except for the pillars holding the roof and walls. If it was day time it would have probably looked like a majestic palace.

There were also blue coloured flame torches on the wall which made the hallway light up in blue colour.

After walking for a bit Tristan came at the end of the hallway which led to a huge hall befitting of the hallway.

What Tristan saw left his mouth opened and eyes wide. Even though he knew this was an undead dungeon he never expected this.

[Dungeon monster :- Skeletons]

Skeletons, only pure white bony skeletons with a green wisps in their eye socket.

Their bones were not broken or dirty like zombies; they were like the skeleton model Tristan saw in his school.

They were probably a hundred as they were spread across the whole hall.

'From the memories of Alucard the best way to kill skeletons is to completely destroy them; otherwise they will just keep regenerating.' Tristan thought with a pondering look.

With his strength and the metal bat it would be a child's play but Tristan was still a bit suspicious.

These skeletons might even be weaker than those zombie hounds yet why were they in this hall which was supposed to be a bit tough.

Tristan didn't think about it much and threw his bag near the hallway.

He picked his bat and entered the hall, little did he know the next thing would shock him.

Every single skeleton started staring at Tristan with their green wisp eyes.

Tristan raised his head and looked at the eyes of one of the skeletons and he felt something strange.

He felt an innate fear and eerie from the skeleton which was forcing him to stay in this place and at the same time run away from it.

Tristan lifted his right hand and gave himself a slap to bring himself back to his senses.

*Slap!!*

Then did he recognise that the skeleton was already moving towards him to attack him with their bony but whip-like hands.

'The weirdness I felt after entering this place and then this fear….' Tristan smiled widely as he recognised what was going on.

'Kill these skeletons. Kill these skeletons…' Tristan kept repeating this in his head like a maniac. He didn't think about anything except killing these skeletons.

Tristan lifted his bat and hit the head of one of the skeletons with all of his might.

*CRACK*
