Chapter 8 - Licker

"It's no wonder that no police helicopters have appeared, as not even the skies are safe now..."

After slaying the wind eagle, Agnus couldn't help but sigh at how dangerous this world had become as he crouched down to pick up the two spiritual cards.

Although it seems that he has killed the wind eagle with ease, he knew that he was only able to kill it thanks to the bonus of his divine weapon and armor which give enough magic power even though both are only +0. Once he strengthened them to +1, he had seen in the information contained in the Gricard that both would undergo drastic transformations when dealing damage and protection in % and could even compare to a set of legendary equipment +9, that is, while a weapon +9 legendary increases damage by 80%, your divine weapon +1 would also increase your damage by 80%.

However, how many people in the world could obtain legendary weapons? Not to mention the divine equipment...

His current magic power of 2,200 was already very strong and only thanks to that he could win against the wind eagle who was already at level 5. He didn't even want to imagine what the situation was like for those besides him who were facing such creatures in this moment of chaos.

Opening his Gricard, he quickly took a look at his stats to decide where to allocate his 10 free points gained from the promotion to level 4.

"I still feel that my speed is not enough. Although strength is important, when combined with my magic, it can exert results at full capacity even if I face an enemy with powerful physical strength..."

Agnus had already felt the need to increase his agility urgently after fighting the demonic spider and after facing the wind bird, his belief only grew stronger. So he quickly allocated his 10 stat points on agility increasing his total to 80 points and observed the red card's contents.

[1st order Wind Burst]: Launches a ball of wind with a certain probability of ignoring defense and dealing internal damage.

"So it was with this skill that I suffered internal damage... It looks decent enough, but it's useless to me."

Agnus had already expected this result, but was still a little disappointed that this ability wasn't compatible with one of his elements and quickly tucked it away in one of his pockets as it still had its uses.

Soon, he used the blue card occupying the 3rd slot of the 4 available attributes slots and all his stats increased by +10.

"Well, it looks like now I'll have to walk to the baron's castle..."

Taking one more look at the sky, he couldn't help but sigh and didn't dare risk facing other beasts like the wind eagle as his energy was limited and he could quickly deplete it with the effort of just using his wings to fly.

Taking a step to the edge of the terrace, he leapt directly from the 70-meter-tall building and, with a flap of his wings, his fall was greatly reduced as he landed quickly on the pungent blood-stained road littered with corpses in its surroundings.

Upon landing, the weight of his body coupled with the impact of his armor had caused a muffled sound that quickly drew dozens of zombies in the vicinity.

Very quickly, they all ran frantically as they snarled at Agnus.

Swinging his scythe in several flashes while moving quickly, it didn't take even a few seconds and Agnus had already killed dozens of zombies. His speed was so fast that even before a body dropped dead he was already claiming the life of the tenth zombie. When the 4th zombie fell dead to the ground, he had already claimed the lives of 46 zombies.

[You killed a level 3 zombie of order 0 and got +5 of energy]

"Even these zombies are able to evolve. However, it seems that after I got to level 4, these level 1 and level 2 zombies don't give me more energy... Only one level 3 zombie among them gave me +5 energy, but after that, I didn't receive any more..."

Agnus was frowning as he realized that as his level progressed, it would be harder to get more energy and evolve.

"Damn! I threw my backpack away and I have nowhere to stick these cards..."

There were about 46 blue cards that fell out with the zombie deaths and he was helpless not knowing how he was going to carry them as they didn't fit in his pockets.

He was about to look around for something in the surroundings that could be used as luggage when he was interrupted by a cold voice.

[The host can use the storage space of this system. Currently, the space is only the size of a basketball court, but it will be increased as your level evolves]

"Of course. The golden finger is a golden finger after all. How have I not thought of that before..."

Without hesitation, he stored the 45 blue cards in the system storage space leaving only one in his hand which quickly filled the 4th available attributes slot again increasing all his stats by +10.

Feeling that his agility had reached 100 points, he nodded satisfied as he knew his current speed was now much faster than a moment ago when he faced the wind eagle.

After cleaning up these dozen zombies,he looked carefully around him and his stomach churned as he felt nauseous after seeing so many zombie remains scattered everywhere.

"Initially, I still had some hope of finding a motorcycle, but in these conditions, it's difficult to even walk, much less ride a motorcycle. As for cars, there's absolutely no condition..."

Seeing how the city was in chaos, he had no choice but to walk. He would have to cross the center of town and then continue north, as his school was on the south side, and since he had already flown over some distance, he was not far from the center now.

Retracting his wings, armor and his scythe which, despite having claimed the lives of dozens of zombies, did not contain a single drop of blood staining him and he felt more comfortable.

Just as he was about to head north, he suddenly, heard gunfire from the south.

Among the overturned, wrecked and other cars that were just lying on the roads with their doors open, he observed a group of 11 people fully covered in silver armor that ran towards him while pointing their automatic pistols and constantly firing back and to the sides.

"What a well-organized team..."

Seeing this scene, Agnus couldn't help but praise.

Among this group of people running, there were not just the 11 in silver armor. All of them were in a square formation where there were three of them on each side, while four covered the rear firing their weapons at the zombies who frantically followed. Only one of those 11 was leading just ahead of a group of 19 civilians who had horrified expressions on their faces as they ran.

When a zombie surged through the sides, one of the three would summon their swords and cut the zombie's head in half, but those were the least of it, the biggest concentration of zombies was at the rear chasing them.

Among the four in silver armor at the back, there was one of them who was holding a rifle and was much more efficient at killing.

However, their ammunition ran out and they had no choice but to put it away as they started to fight with their swords.

Although they all wore silver armor, there were two that seemed to stand out the most.

The one who placed his rifle on his left waist, wore silver armor with some red color patterns and had summoned a silver sword that was covered in red flames as he held it in his right hand. With a key stance, he swung his sword horizontally from left to right when producing a powerful slash of flame that measured 1 meter wide had been shot towards the zombies cutting their necks in half leaving them incapacitated on the road.

Although their necks were cut in half, their heads still snarled and they weren't quite dead yet, only they had lost the ability to move.

The team seemed well acquainted with each other and they weren't surprised by the skill released by their teammate as they kept up the pace of running north. The leader hadn't even given a single glance back and he was just watching a 15 year old standing in the middle of a fork in the road just ahead of them.

"Young man, what are you still doing standing in the middle of all this chaos? Can't you see that it's not safe? Where are your parents?" The leader was still running when he quickly started yelling at the young man who was still standing about 50 meters ahead of him.

This young man that the leader had just yelled at was none other than Agnus himself who, at this moment, had a strange expression upon hearing the words of this leader who was covered in silver armor with blue color patterns. He held a 1.5 meter long silver sword in his right hand and just like the sword covered in red flames, his sword was covered in blue flames.

"Are these two... A Red Flame Swordsman and a Blue Flame Swordsman? What a strange combination..." Agnus couldn't help but wonder.

At first, the leader was starting to get impatient as he wondered if he should also bring this young man with him the closer he got to him and seeing that he was silent. However, as soon as he had gotten close enough and was only 3 meters in front of Agnus, his body went rigid and he stopped abruptly causing everyone following behind him to also stop in their tracks.

Seeing their leader stop, the 10 evolved in silver armor had a suspicious look and their guard had been raised as they faced the young man before them. However, the 19 civilians had an expression of relief on their horrified faces and took this moment to get some rest, as they had been running for more than a few kilometers and their bodies were not as resistant as the evolved ones, after all.

"You... Young Master Agnus? What is Young Master doing here alone? Where is your personal guard?"

The leader looked shocked and confused as he asked doubtfully.

Agnus was surprised that this leader addressed him as if he knew him, after all, he didn't know him. However, thinking of his identity, he quickly searched his memories to act the way old Agnus would act.

"Doesn't it seem obvious? I'm on my way north to my father's castle. I also don't need guards when I'm inside the school dormitory."

"That's true, but the current world is no longer what we knew before and your personal guard must be by the young master's side to protect him in dangerous situations like this..."

"You don't have to worry about that. Report your identities first and what you were planning to do."

Seeing how distant and even a bit dominator Agnus seemed, just like in the rumors that he heard about him before the apocalypse, Frederick was surprised that even in the face of such chaos this young master before him still remains so indifferent. At first, he was still hesitant whether to continue addressing him as such when he recognized his identity or whether he should simply treat him like any other normal person. After all, the laws of this world are changing right now and the power scales may not be the same as before.

Furthermore, he had awakened a rare class, a Swordsman of Frost Flames, and he felt much more confident to adapt and settle in this new world of chaos.

However, he was no fool, if with just a few weapons released by the Baron, he and his team had already managed to kill dozens of zombies and awaken their Gricards, he didn't dare underestimate the Baron who has a great armed force protecting his castle with weapons very more powerful than he and his team of guards had.

Thinking about it, it was better to play it safe and respect this young master before him, but he was surprised that this young master was so bold and confident.

Feeling a little more admiration and respect, he slowly removed his helmet and reported his identity: "Reporting to the young master, this old man is Frederick, Captain of the South Gate Defense Police Forces of Glory City. My son Felix, too is a student at his school and he introduced me to the young master from a distance once when I went to a parent's meeting, so I recognized the young master today."

"Your memory seems very good. I remember the last parent meeting was just last month. Very good, Frederick, tell me, what is the situation at the south gate and why does your team consist of only these 10 men?"

"Young master, the situation at the south gate is very bad. As we know, the southern road is surrounded by mountain ranges with dense forests, and when this chaos broke out, we were not only attacked by zombies, but also by various types of beasts mutants that emerged from the Misty Forest. After consuming practically all the ammunition we had available, we had no choice but to close the gates and retreat to request reinforcements..."

"However, we did not expect the situation inside the city to be even more chaotic and during our walk we met many civilians who have taken refuge with our team that, in addition to these 10 men who follow me, there is still a team of 50 police officers who are guarding their school's gym with all the civilians we rescued before. Also, my son, my wife, and my comrades' family members are also there..."

"Knowing that using the gymnasium as a shelter is not a viable long-term solution and can only be used temporarily, I was willing to come with these comrades to the baron's castle to request reinforcements and, on the way here, these 19 civilians took refuge with us believing that the center will be safer."

Listening to this captain who had short black hair, a sharp look and the face of a serious man, Agnus nodded and thought, "It seems that even if I leave the city now, it won't be an easy way to my father's castle, even If it's only 20 km, there could be a lot of evolved beasts on the road. I'll have to change my plans..."

Looking seriously at Frederick, he said, "I see. Captain Frederick, we will do as you have planned. Since I was going to my father's castle, we will go together. As for these civilians, let's find a safe place in the center to serve as shelter temporary..."

Agnus hadn't even finished speaking his plans when suddenly, a turmoil was stirring from the north and seemed to be rapidly approaching. He couldn't help but interrupt his words with a scowl and quickly looked back only to see some familiar faces that were quickly running towards him.

"You stupid people, what are you still doing standing there in the middle of the intersection? Can't you see we're being chased by an ugly monster?" Shouted a burly man who wore black full body armor and held a 2.5-meter great black ax surrounded by black mist on its sharp double blades.

"How many times do I have to tell you that this is not an ugly monster, but a Licker, you hear me? A Licker!" A girl running a little ahead of this big guy screamed even louder. She was that girl Agnus had seen before in armor and vine of golden thorns.

"What matters now, this thing is much more powerful than that level 5 mutant dog we killed earlier and we can't waste time arguing about what this thing is. Plus there's still this group of people ahead and maybe, we can kill her if we are fighting together. After all, this thing is very fast and will soon catch up with us." This time, the one who had spoken was the young man who wore white and green armor while holding a Blaster Pistol.

"Mark is right, we can't handle this creature on our own, but look at the people up front, two of them seem to have awakened rare classes and if we all work together we can kill this Licker." The green silk cloak woman who had awakened a plant agreed with the young man in white and green armor.

"Although my broom isn't effective in combat, it's still pretty tough and I can block a few blows." The strong man in the leather armor who had awakened a broom looked a little frustrated as he added.

Seeing this team of 5 running towards him, Agnus was curious to know what they were running from, as he realized that within this team, there were 3 of them that looked quite powerful. However, hearing the golden girl scream the word Licker, he was feeling strange.

"Isn't that the creature from Resident Evil, a Licker?"

Wanting to confirm his suspicions, he looked even further away from the team of five and, in the middle of the traffic jam-packed road, he spotted a creature running quickly over these cars.

This creature was very ugly and she ran like she had 4 paws. Her head looked like a scrotum human brain. His tongue was half a meter long and was full of fangs as it swung with the rhythm of his frantic run.

Aside from her head being shaped like a big brain, she had no eyes, just her mouth full of big, sharp teeth with her huge tongue and her speed was so fast it wouldn't take her long to catch up to team of 5.
