Chapter 29 - Lady Luck is on my side

Zach was relieved, the wolf pack was no more and he doubted that there was still wolves alive on this floor. He could finally take time to heal the wounds he had and rest. While he was resting he took a look at his status, he had gained quite a bit from the wolves.

He leveled up 2 times and got the 12 system points which went with them, a dozen of souls, Zach was still far from the necessary souls for the skill he wanted. He wanted to get the Soul slayer skill but he would need 1250 souls, he would need to make quite the slaughter to get to this point.

Zach was sitting in the midst of the wolves' corpses, he was meditating to recover the mana he had spent and to heal his injuries. However after 15 minutes, his internal injury caused by the water blast still didn't show any sign of imrpovement, he succeeded in preventing it from worsening but that was it.

Seeing that, Zach decided to let it like this, he would need to get a good healing when he could. But for the moment he had to be even more careful and avoid as much as possible every battle. Zach got up and went towards the alpha's corpse, he wanted to see if any of its organs had value.

He went by the hole his scythe had made and he looked for anything, after having taken out its heart, lungs and stomach Zach found something interesting.

It was a small transparent blue rock, Zach knew that it had definitely some value but he didn't have any idea of what it could be, he put this odd rock in his shadow and started searching the stairs. The first place Zach wanted to search was the other shore of the river the wolves had crossed, he reached the river in a few minutes and started to think about how he would cross it.

'I could jump across it but I fear that it would worsen my internal injury.' Zach pondered how he could cross this river with his wits. After a few seconds he had an idea 'I will just cut down a pine tall enough to make a bridge between the shores.' He was happy to have found this simple yet efficient plan.

Zach went towards a pine that fitted what he seeked and he uprooted it just like that, he then put it so it would form a bridge between the shores. Now the only thing he had to do was to cross this river calmly.

Once on the other shore Zach looked at the damage his hell fire made, he fueled it only for a minute but it had reduced more than a dozen of pines in ashes. Zach decided to follow the currents upward and after more than 10 minutes of walk he finally arrived at the source of this huge river.

In fact this huge river was created from a hole in the wall about 3 meters above the ground. Zach could not go any further 'Maybe the water come from out of this dungeon or maybe this water is produced thanks to secrets arts.'

When Zach looked carefully at it he saw that there was light coming form behind the little waterfall. He neared it and like he had thought the light was coming from the stairs which were hidden behind the little waterfall formed by the source of the river. 'Is lady luck on my side again ?' Zach wondered with a wide smile.

Zach descended the stairs and went on the fifth floor, this time there wasn't any powerful scent of blood so Zach was doubtful, he didn't searched the whole fourth floor so maybe the one before him had failed against the original pack of wolves and his corpses is still on the fourth floor.

Considering his injury Zach decided to only seek the stairs and won't go against any beasts if he could.

After 10 minutes of search Zach didn't find the stairs but found something equally interesting, he found 3 corpses of beast, it was corpses of salamender and pretty big one at that. The whole vicinity of the corpses were charred black 'I suppose that these salamenders were of the fire element and its them which destoyed the vicinity.'

Zach continued to search for the stairs bu this time he was more relaxed, the one before wasn't dead and in Zach's opinion he had handled all the monsters on this floor this time. After searching for another 5 minutes he eventually found the stairs and went towards the sixth floor.

On this floor Zach got rid of the relaxed attitude he got on the former floor and now he had to discover the stairs as quickly as possible and while avoiding any fight against any possible beast still alive.

Once again after a while searching the stairs Zach found the corpses of beasts, this time it was the corpses of eagles beasts and small cuts were everywhere on the ground along with a good deal of blood.

'This time it's certain Lady Luck came back on my side, 2 floors in a row without any fight to do. I am sure I will find this floor's stairs in no time.' Zach was very happy, luck was on this side. However he searched for the stairs for an hour and didn't find anything, he was starting to depress. He decided to take a break and laid down on the ground.

When he looked at the roof of this floor he saw a familiar rectangular hole. 'You ... You are kidding me.' Zach was down because on this floor to go down on the next floor you first had to get up what a good joke, wasn't it.

After a few minutes of climbing he finally attained the hole for the stairs, this time he went down many more steps and only after 10 minutes he got to the next floor.

This time as soon as he arrived on this floor he saw the corpses of the beasts, there was a lot, too much, rabbit beasts corpses. Zach did like he had done on all the other floor he tried to collect the souls and this time unlike all the others times he got a notification.

[Ding ! Soul collected + 1]

Zach had a look of disbelief on his face. 'JACKPOT !' Of all the monsters that he didn't fight on all the floors he went through he could collect the souls of the rabbit, there was so many of them, he had indeed hit the jackpot.

However soon Zach went under a cold shower, if he could collect the souls of those beasts it meant that they were killed not too long ago. Meaning that the one who was before him was in the best case on the next floor and in the worst still on this floor.

Though it didn't stop Zach he collected the soul of all the rabits that were near the entrance and after 5 minutes of collect there was some rabbits he couldn't collect soul from. This was the end of this free harvest but Zach was in pure bliss, there was so much rabbits that even if he had killed them himself he couldn't have collected all the souls. He looked at how much souls he got on this harvest.

[Ding ! Souls collected + 263]

Zach's jaw was on the ground, he knew he had collected quite a few souls but never would he have imagined that he had gained that much in so little time.

'Harvest time have ended, I am too tired to continue searching for the stairs and what's more there may be someone else on this floor. Better take a good nap in the previous stairs just to be safe.' Zach didn't get to sleep for a whole day and tiredness started to come, this and his internal injury he couldn't afford to search this floor.

He lied down on a step and closed his eyes, he had a few thoughts of his parents and what he would make to Arnold and his family before he closed his eyes. A while later he reopened his eyes, he could feel that he should have slept about 5 hours which was enough to get rid of all the tiredness accumulated.

He descended the stairs for the second time but this time he would go for the next stairs and he would not take a break before he found it. He got through every nook and cranny of this floor, there was still countless rabbits corpses on the ground, and after half an hour he finally found the stairs.

He descended the stairs and arrived above what seemed to be the last floor, he was on a plateau of rocks and on his right was a downhill which lead to a great open field which looked like a fighting arena. At first he didn't hear it but now he could clearly heard sounds of fighting and in fact the small plateau of rocks he was on was shaking.

Zach looked down and when he saw what was going on he sat at the edge of the plateau and was smiling, he would have loved some pop corns from his previous world to go with this entertainment.
