Chereads / Lord of Death System / Chapter 10 - Toward the mountains

Chapter 10 - Toward the mountains

The three of them were now going deeper and deeper in this forest with unsuspected dangers. Zach during this walk was thinking about how he would distribute his system points, eventually he decided to keep them.

He kept them because the System already warned him of the harm it will do to him if he put them in speed, strength and stamina and he was pretty sure that his father would give him a good cultivation method. As for Intelligence and Spirit he did not have any use for them at the moment so he would only waste the little advantage he had.

After 5 hours of exploration they decided to make a break and eat a bit before going back deeper in this forest.

"Wolf meat for lunch ? And this probably will be the sole meat we will have for the next few days unless other beasts come to us." Zach said with a big smile.

"Yeah ... I hope some other beast will." Jess said with a face full of disgust at the idea of only eating wolf meat.

"Ha ha, we should worry about this the next lunches. For now I will set up the campfire." Arnold laughed at Jess' reaction and started to make a circle with stone he found here and there on the ground and in this circle he put a lot of kindling wood and small log.

"We just have to light it up now." Arnold announced.

"Yeah let's do it." Zach replied and he gave each of them a piece of meat skewed on a stick. They lit up the campfire and started to roast their piece of meat. They were chewing their piece of meat peacefully.

"In which direction should we go after our lunch ?" Jess asked just after she finished the piece of meat she had.

"I don't know, we could go at the North toward the part of the forest which is more of a mountain or we could go toward the West where there is only more tree." Zach offered while chewing his meat. When he said that Jess face contorted in disgust.

"I don't want to go toward the West or we will only have wolf meat for the next few days, just the idea of it is making me sick." Jess protested, disgust still obvious on her face.

"Yes on the mountain part we could find beast other beast than wolves and we could even discover something with a big value which none other before us found." Arnold added.

"So it will be toward the North and the mountain part of the forest." Zach declared cheerfully.

They finished their meal quietly. They rose from their seats and started to make way toward the mountain parts at the North. This area of the pygma forest was rather unexplored, maybe they could find some heavenly treasure.

They could see afar the mountain, the highest peak was in the clouds and a big waterfall at the center of all the mounts. They went up the river next to them, which in their opinion originated from the waterfall they could see in the mountain.

They followed the river for the rest of the afternoon, at the nightfall they were not so far from the entrance of the mountain range. They decided to make a break and sleep under the stars and enter the mountain range early the next morning.

"I will take the first shift so go sleep peacefully you two." Zach said

Zach climbed to the summit of a nearby tree from which he could keep an eye on the surroundings. After 30 minutes nothing happened, he was bored so he looked up in the deep black sky, he was looking at the shining stars.

He wondered if there was something beyond these stars, lost in his thoughts he eventually thought about the physical cultivation method he would practice, he wondered if there was a physical cultivation method related to the stars and if there was, he was curious about its power would it be one of the best ?

Zach watch went quietly, he passed all of his time gazing at the mountain, the stars, the moon and the deep green tree's foliage which the moon light illuminated. Just before going down to wake up one of the two for their shift he thought about what he should do with his system points.

'I don't know when I will get another skill and I won't invest them in my inventory so the best thing to do should be to upgrade my spirit therefore my soul cultivation and my intelligence even if I still don't have any skill to use. Now that I think about it the name of my inventory skill, death from the shadows, at a higher level I may be able to melt myself in the shadows, who knows.'

Zach went down the tree he was on, he went toward Arnold to make him take his shift.

"Arnold wake up, it's time to take your shift." Zach mumbled to Arnold while shaking him. "Understood, go take a good rest tomorrow is a day full of surprise." Arnold replied absent-mindely while he rubbed his sleepy eyes.

Zach lied down and closed his eyes waiting for the next day and its exciting adventures. 5 hours later Zach was woke up by Jess. "We should go on our way, we don't have so much time left before we have to come back home." Zach heard his friend voice, he was still half asleep and it was hard for him to get up.

"You are right we have to go, we only have 5 days left in this forest." Zach yawned, eventually as best as he could he got up.

They took back the road to the entrance of the small mountain range, after crossing the last bit of road they had to make they found themselves before a tunnel with an arch carved in the light brown wall of the mountain.

This arch was of a deep black, a black deeper than the night sky they saw yesterday, there was something that looked like words on the arch, they written in a snow white which contrasted the black of the arch. At the other end of tunnel was a lush vegetation of a wonderful green.

"What do you think is written on this arch ?" Zach asked, he did not know why but when he saw this he felt like he was at the right place.

Not far away in the trees the same 2 men who monitored the kids were utterly confused, they did not know about this arch and tunel in this mountain range.

"What is this arch ? I did not know there was an arch in this mountain range and I can't even understand what's written on it. Why do I feel dread when I look at it ?" One of them exclaimed.

"I don't know but what is certain is that the entity who carved it is extremely powerful far beyond us in addition anything behind this arch is certainly dangerous and I don't know if the kids will be able to handle it. And I don't know if we would be able to follow them in this anomaly." The other replied worriedly.

"Should we stop them from going in those mountains ?" the first said anxiously, they were tasked to protect them and with this he was not sure if they would be safe.

"Yes let's go, those mountains are too dangerous for small kids." The second responded while rushing toward them, the other followed right behind the first.

Jess, Arnold and Zach were just a step from entering the tunnel, the two mysterious men were still rather far but were advancing at a fast pace. The three of them entered the tunnel and unbeknownst to them when they did that, the white inscriptions on the arch glowed.

When they came out of this tunnel they were greeted with a breath-taking sight, the thriving vegetation, the water flowing peacefully and the soothing birdsongs.

"What is this ... place did we died ang somehow got in paradise ?" Jess muttered while gaping at this sight.

Arnold was about to answer Jess but Zach interrupted him.

"I don't know but there is something fishy about this place." Zach's feeling about being at the right place was now stronger but in addition he had now a feeling that bothered him, he felt like this place was hiding the most dreadful danger and this made him nervous.

The two watch dogs arrived in front of the arch and when they were about to cross it to enter the tunnel the inscriptions shone even brightly and the two of them got repulsed by a powerful wave of energy which made them land away in the trees.

"WHAT the actual fuck is happening !?" One of them exclaimed.

"I don't know but this is very disturbing." The other commented nervously. They were in a very bad situation, they were tasked to protect the kids and now they could not follow them in the mountains which were obviously full of danger in view of the energy which repelled them. The kids were all on their own from now.
