"Little flower, Indianapolis USA"
Little neighbourhood was quiet as a grave yard. Nobody moved about as it was still 6am in the morning. The sky threatened to rain as dark clouds were forming. A gust of wind woke up Esther Garfield, she was about the same age as Tade only a little bit taller than him. The window must have been opened by someone, she thought as she rose up to close it. She then noticed that it was about to rain as the wind blew harder this time. I hope it's not a storm this time. She then headed to the mirror to check herself as it was her routine every morning. Wait, she thought as she looked through the mirror. Am I home? Oh my God,am really at home. How?
She didn't seem to remember how she got home. Everything was blur in her memory as she tried to remember how she got home. She then noticed that her eyes colour changed from amber to deep blue.
What is going on, she thought. Am I undergoing some sort of mutation? She tried blinking her eyes to see if it's a dream but the more she blinked, the more deeper the colour showed
What's going on? Am I a mutant or what. I really need to see a doctor.
She left the mirror and head to the bathroom. She washed her eyes with water and kept on blinking. As she came out, she was startled by her sister.
"I was wondering how you got here big sis",jeered her sister sitting on her bed.
"Stop this Anna", replied her sister with a frown." I have told you times with number not to call me big sis. It's weird and I don't like it".
Anna was her little sister, three years apart and almost as tall as her. She had been calling her "big sis" since she was six and have often pissed Esther off as she was a jester.
"That's not my concern",said Anna with a hiss. "How did you come in? Dad didn't say anything about you coming home yesterday".
"That's because I didn't tell him", answered Esther drying her hair. "Besides,do you see anything strange in my eyes".
"Oh!"exclaimed Anna looking closely. "They look like a witch to me. What's wrong with them?"
"Nothing", answered Esther as she turned to the mirror again and saw her normal eye colour. "Never mind, are mum and dad up?"
"You have been in this house like seventeen years now and you are asking that question", answered Anna." Girl, you are weird. Of course they are up. besides, I should tell them that you are around".
Anna stood up to leave. As she opened the door, she kept starring at her sister.
'Why are you starring at me?"asked Esther as she kept drying her hair.
"You know big sis", answered Anna with a grin. "Your hair looks good when it's cut low. You'd look like a real monster".
"Go away",shouted Esther as she threw her comb to her sister. She didn't like people making jest of her hair even if they looked weird early in the morning.
Anna laughter filled this whole room as she went out of Esther's room. Esther could hear her tell mom she's around and also could hear her setting the dinning table.
"I better head downstairs",said Esther in a hurry. She went downstairs and was surprised to see dinning table set and food ready to be eaten.
"Hi mom", greeted Esther. "Are you guys going out?"
"Well",answered her mom serving the food. Bacon, fried eggs and milk was on the table. Also toast bread was also lying at the other end of the table. "We were but it seems we have to postpone it because of this storm". Her mom was a plump woman, cheerful and a workaholic. "It says on the radio that's going to be a bad one. I really had plans today you know. When did you arrive? I didn't notice. You know, it's bad you didn't tell us you were coming. How's school by the way?"
"Well", answered Esther helping herself to some bacon. "School is good,I...."
She was cut off by her dad loud voice. A man in his forties, well built and tall.
"Oh", exclaimed her dad smiling. "I see the school girl has arrived. How was your trip and when did you arrive?"
"Today", answered Esther with face down. She was not sure whether to tell her parent the truth or lie. She hadn't remember how she got home either. "Pass me the milk Anna. I don't know why you are quiet at the dinner table".
"Ha", replied Anna with a smile. "You know it's manner not to talk while eating. You are not obeying etiquette".
Esther's face went red,she wanted to reply but her dad cut in.
"Stop girls",commanded her dad with his hand on the cutlery. "Eat your food in peace and no fight. You know the rules. Seems you have to stay here till tomorrow. I heard this storm is going to last for a while. In the meantime, stay away from electric appliances".
"You hear that big sis", whispered Anna. "Dad's afraid of you been electrocuted. You know I..."
"Watch the milk jug",screamed Esther with her hand stretched. But it was too late the jug was on its way to the floor then it seemed to pause in Esther's eyes. The jug kept still in its stationary position. The sight scared Esther as time seemed to flow differently in her eyes. Her parents and sister were just still like a statue .
What's happening to me?she thought. Am I some kind of freak now?
As she thought of moving, everything came back to normal. The shattering of the jug,her parent and sister's voice she could hear it now.
"Hmm",scowled her dad looking at the damage. "That's milk wasted. What did I tell you about playing with food?"
"Sorry dad,", apologized Anna with a smile. "Couldn't help it. I will make another".
All these didn't bother to Esther. Something is wrong with her and she must not freak out. Breakfast ended and the two sisters washed and dried the plates and utensils. Anna cleared the mess while her sister cleaned the table neatly. Large thunderstorms were heared and the house shook. Mr Garfield switch off all the electric appliances in the house and checked the girls before going to his room.
The rains started slowly before raining heavily, even the road was covered with much water. The rain had brought a little flood as different metals, clothes, books moved across the road.
Esther was lost in thought , thinking about what happened in the recent hour when she felt someone tap her shoulder. She let out a small cry before seeing it was only her sister.
"Ohh",remarked Anna. "I didn't know you will be that scared. Seems you were in deep thoughts because you didn't even react when I entered. It was like I never existed. Wait don't tell me you are thinking about your boyfriend?"
"I don't have a boyfriend",answered Esther with a scowl on her face. "Why did you come here anyways?"
"Relax girl",said Anna with her hand moving up and down in a slow pace in her chest. "I didn't come here to have a quarrel. Besides what happened to Scott and no new guys at school?"
"Scott's a jerk", answered Esther rolling her eyes. "Though he's fun but he is not my type. I don't rush into relationship Ann".
Scott had been friends with her since grade school. He was a jovial guy and adventurous also, with a bit of temper. They have been almost everywhere together till they got separated during college days. She chose Butterfield University which was the same University where her dad graduated while Scott chose Indiana University. He studied Electrical engineering where she studied Economics. She avoided guys and only allowed those that can benefit her as she thought they were just jerks wasting off life.
"Too bad", remarked Anna folding her hands. "Boyfriends are part of excitement in one's teen life. Besides you can't avoid boys all the time".
"I know", replied Esther raising her eye ball. "Don't tell me you have one?"
"I do", answered Anna smiling. "Don't worry, he's cute. I brought him home twice for dinner. You should as seen dad's face as he was just asking questions. It was really awkward".
"Just be careful",advised Esther straightening her hair." Boys are jerks and deceitful".
"I will big sis", replied Anna with a grin. "Anyways I came here to get your advice. I am trying to develop a speech, homework though and I need your help".
"Speech on what",asked Esther sitting on a chair near her work table
"Sport event",answered Anna. "I am to deliver a speech on sports to the whole school. I figured out we could do it together and I want to demonstrate in front of you".
"Now you are asking for my help",said Esther with a grin. "Two dollars per Thirty seconds".
"Don't be silly".said Anna giving Esther a friendly slap on the back. "Just help your little sis , okay!"
"Fine", replied Esther ready to listen. "Let's hear what you have to say".
"Unhmm",began Anna as she cleared her throat. "My name is Anna Garfield. I ..... Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Hmm", answered Esther with an unserious face." I like it. It's raw."
"You could have just said it's boring", sighted Anna." I guess I am not that good enough".
"No", replied Esther with a pat on her back." You just need more training. You will be fine in no time".
'You think?",asked Anna smiling.
"I know", answered Esther nodding her hand.
Even though there were thunderstorms, Esther help her little sis with her speech and in no time they made a great speech.
"What you just need to do is to review this and practice",advised Esther packing off the papers on her worktable. "As you know, practice makes perfect".
"Gee", replied Anna happily. "Thanks sis, you are the best in the world. Now I can have a good sleep. See you later".
With that she left the room. Esther later had her bath and arranged her room neatly. She then tried to read her books but the events happening to her couldn't make her concentrate. She tried to remember how she got home or how she saw a stationary jug on air or how she saw her parent and sister paused like a statue
What a mystery, she thought. I guess my brain needs some rest. I think I have hallucinations.
As she was deliberating on whether to sleep or watch a movie, her comb and her watch started floating in air . They were moving randomly round the room
"Not again", exclaimed Esther looking curiously and blinking to know whether she's in a dream or not." What's happening now? It's really freaking me out".
More items joined the group on air. Her pen, books, Snickers, her pillow, even the chair she was sitting on was rising.
"This is really a mystery", whispered Esther to herself." I need to find out what has happened to me".
Her eyes caught the mirror. There again, she saw deep blue eyes. Esther became scared and surprised. She didn't seems to noticed she was moving on a flying chair with a great speed. She kept on looking at the mirror as if she was watching an interesting movie. Then the chair had a collision with the wall which resulted into her falling to the ground with a loud thud making her unconscious.
What a mystery, she thought as her mind became dark.
