Yet another fantasy
Prologue
Legora, the largest capital city in the world. Once one of nine, now there are four. We had lost five cities in the great calamity. Creatures from god knows where poured in from a tear in the earth. A dimensional tear in space and time the men of science called it, but really who the fuck knows? All I know is they were bigger, stronger, looked nothing like us and they outnumbered us hundred to one.
An overwhelming amount of refugees flooded the other cities, telling tall tales of heroes rising and taking on four to six creatures at a time. they fought them off while the rest escaped. Delusions, false hope, call it whatever you want we all knew nothing was coming to save us. We sharpened our swords and barricade our homes. The creatures would find us, just like they found all the other cities.
Or so we thought, they never came, instead five young boys showed up at the gates. Covered in blood, battered but walking. They killed the wave, all of them and then the tales weren't all that tall anymore. They told us there were more of them who came to power but not everyone made it out.
After displaying great feats of strength and unique power, everyone came to the conclusion that they are meant to save us and they agreed. With time more and more young boys came to power all over the continent. The young age allowed them to learn and grow, and help for a long time. It also allowed for them to get picked off easily while still at a young age.
The first five took control of and trained all these boys. They called themselves hunters, a fitting name since that seemed to be all that they did and loved. They formed a ranking system with the strongest at the top.
The leader's strength, speed and ferocity terrified even his own kind, Ezra. His second was no better, Liam. In third rank came Ryker, fourth Matteo and last but not least was Theon. The original five that came to power proved far stronger than any other. They deployed the trained hunters to the remaining cities as protectors and in less than ten years we were no longer on the defensive.
Raids of nesting creatures were frequent but necessary to keep any new-born spawn away. They would kill off as many as they could in a single raid but even with all the creatures on the surface wiped out, more would simply break through the tear. The war had no end in sight and people were too busy making more weapons to fight the war, rather than finding a permanent solution.
If you're thinking that only boys have been coming to power, then you would be correct. And do not think that they did not notice it either. Women were told to run and hide, not even allowed to serve as part of the guards. There were hardly any crimes, but to maintain control a domestic guard force was needed.
Women were forced to take a back seat, removed from any position with influence. The elders of Legora strongly disputed the new movement, but with the hunter's overwhelming power nothing could be done.
Well, that is all about to change, I am the first female hunter and I am no child. My name is Alessia and I will change this world, whether they like it or not.
