Chapter 40 - How Come I Didn’t Know I Was a Marquis’s Illegitimate Son?

The fatty continued to bewitch the students as their eyes were filled with eagerness. They were commoner transcendents. Although they weren't rich, they could still afford two low-grade energy stones or 5000 gold coins.

"Here, 5000 gold coins!" one of the freshmen gritted his teeth and handed over a bag of money.

"I have two low-grade energy stones here." The other student took out a bag filled with energy stones.

Soon, more people were preparing to spend money so that they could meet Arthur.

Arthur frowned. He didn't even know who this fatty was. It was apparent he was using his name to deceive others.

If this fatty was bluffing, it would've been fine. Arthur would've ignored it as he didn't want to be a busybody.

However, this boy was using his name to lie and swindle people's wealth, so in the end, everyone would blame Arthur for this. If such a thing were to continue happening in the future, Arthur was afraid it would cause him a lot of trouble.

He pushed the crowd aside and walked up to the fat boy. He interrupted his talking and said, "He's a liar; he doesn't know Arthur. Don't be fooled by this guy!"

As soon as Arthur finished speaking, the surroundings fell silent. Some freshmen who had taken out their money bags felt something wrong and slowly retreated.

When the fatty saw this scene, his expression changed, and he clenched his teeth tightly. He glared at Arthur. He was furious at the person blocking his path to wealth, wanting to attack him on the spot.

But as there was still a circle of new students around, he smiled.

He walked over and said to Arthur, "New student, I don't think you know enough about our academy."

"Let me tell you. My name is Morris, and I've been famous in the academy since a year ago. My reputation is well-known throughout this place, so why would I lie to you freshmen?"

"You just need to give me two low-grade energy stones or 5000 gold coins. Once you do, I'll introduce you to the geniuses in this academy."

Then, as if he was telling a secret, he squatted down slightly and said in a low voice, "You guys probably don't know this, but Arthur is actually the illegitimate son of a powerful Marquis! He has only been temporarily placed in a commoner family's care!"

"After he graduates from the academy, he'll return to the Marquis's residence and become one of the top noble families in the Canglan Empire."

"If you get to know him now, you'll be able to soar in the future!"

"Additionally, Arthur can now kill a second-level prodigy with one move. In less than half a year, he'll be able to defeat an energy level three prodigy. Within ten years, he'll most likely become a famous powerhouse in the empire!"

"There's still a chance to get to know him now, but you won't get any more chances once he starts making a name for himself."

Morris was still talking big. They were a little tempted when the freshmen heard him talking in such detail.

He was a Marquis's illegitimate son?

Arthur almost laughed out of anger when he saw Morris's serious expression.

Arthur had lived for so many years, but he had never encountered a Marquis before. So how could he be the illegitimate son of one of them?

Arthur sighed and shook his head, "Arthur isn't like what this person said. He doesn't have any noble background; he's just a commoner from the countryside."

"Additionally, Arthur has neither been taught by this person before nor does he even know him."

Arthur turned his face to Morris and coldly said, "Return the money that you scammed from the new students."

After Arthur finished speaking, the surrounding freshmen realized that something was wrong.

After frowning, some students kept their money bags and stood back. Moreover, some even showed intentions of taking back their money from Morris.

Morris's face instantly darkened. He coldly grabbed the money bag one of the students wanted to put away, snatching it back.

Then, his eyes spewed fire as he looked at Arthur angrily, "Freshman, you're not Arthur. So how do you know if I'm lying or not?" he asked.

"You might anger someone you can't afford to offend if you keep talking nonsense."

The meaning of Morris's warning was obvious, but Arthur wasn't afraid. With his current strength, he wasn't scared of this warning. If Morris wouldn't repent, then Arthur wouldn't mind attacking him.

Just as Arthur was about to ask Morris to return the money he had swindled, a figure hurried over from a distance.

When he saw the figure, a hint of evasion appeared in Morris's eyes. He lowered his head, not wanting to be recognized.

The person who came was also a freshman. Additionally, his strength was average, and he didn't have any strong background. Morris had no reason to be so afraid.

However, as a know-it-all, he had long known that the student coming over was Victor. Victor had arrived at the academy with Arthur, and rumors claimed he was very close with the latter.

If Victor saw him using Arthur's name for swindling, he'd be in trouble.

After all, no matter how arrogant Morris was, he didn't think he was Grott's or Ferguson's opponent. On the other hand, Arthur seriously injured the two of them. This level of strength wasn't something he could easily provoke.

Morris felt like he was about to survive as he saw Victor turn to leave. Suddenly, Victor's eyes lit up as if he had seen an important person!

He immediately jogged to the group, making Morris break out in cold sweat.

However, this wasn't the end of it. Victor's following words sent chills down Morris's spine as his eyes widened.

Victor jogged to Arthur, who was exposing Morris's lie, and said, "Arthur!"

"So you were here. We've been looking for you for many days, but we couldn't find you!"

Upon hearing this, Morris was so scared that his legs went soft, unable to move. The other freshmen at the side also had their mouths agape in disbelief.

Arthur, who was likely to be the strongest among all the freshmen, had actually been standing here beside them!

But not only did they not recognize Arthur, they even wanted to give money to a scammer!

The freshmen gathered around were so shocked that they couldn't speak. Morris opened his mouth and stuttered, "I-i-i... You..."

His entire body was paralyzed with fear, rendering him speechless.

He had used Arthur's name to trick others. After Arthur found out, Morris didn't even admit his mistake. Instead, he threatened the man. Thinking back to his actions, Morris was extremely afraid now.

Arthur saw through his emotions and coldly said, "Return the money you swindled. If you do this again, I won't let you off so easily."

Arthur waved his hand and motioned for Morris to leave.

His state of mind was completely different. Such a weakling probably wouldn't even have the chance to see his back in the future. Thus, it would be a waste of time for Arthur to argue with him.

After Arthur finished speaking, Morris hurriedly took out the money he had cheated, flustered. Many money bags and gold coins fell to the ground.

However, no one dared to fight for it as Arthur was around.

After retrieving their money, some new students excitedly ran over and thanked Arthur.

"I didn't expect the real Arthur to be right beside us. We almost believed the liar's words!" they said regretfully.

"Thankfully, it wasn't too late. Just be careful next time." Victor looked at Morris's face and said with a smile.

"Alright, let's go." Arthur wasn't planning to stay any longer. Instead, he was going to find his dormitory.

It had been seven days since the school term started, but he had yet to show himself before the other freshmen. Moreover, Arthur didn't know which dormitory he was in.

Victor came up from behind and said, "Arthur, I'll take you to your dormitory."

"The dormitories have been divided. Therefore, we'll be in the same dorm."

"What?" Arthur was pleasantly surprised. Everything was much more convenient this way.

Two people watched Arthur leave in a castle far away as Arthur and Victor returned to the dormitory. Viscount Alger and a highly-respected mage were watching Arthur the whole time.

If Arthur were here, he would've recognized this great mage as the old man he had seen in the library.

"Your Excellency Ferde, this Arthur has offended Count Magnus because of the enmity I told you about."

"Presently, Count Magnus is in an exchange with the academy, asking us to hand Arthur over. I would like to know your opinion regarding this." Viscount Alger bowed and asked with a respectful expression.

"Hmph!" the white-robed mage, Ferde, snorted. "These nobles are getting more outrageous. This is an academy, not their territory. Just ignore them."

After saying that, he closed his eyes. As for Viscount Alger, he was ecstatic hearing those words!

If this great mage protected Arthur, nobody in the Canglan Empire could put pressure on him!
