According to Nicolette, this time was the year 2192 and the location was New city. Due to excessive extraction of all kinds of resources and global warming, finally, there was a shortage of it which cause economic crises all around the world. A political crisis in various countries triggered a war among many countries. Global politics were divided into four organizations including some forces that remained independent.
At first, a naval war was started and soon spread across the world and all the countries used tremendous firepower on their borders. In the year 2176, the first nuclear weapon was detonated by one country which officially brought the world war into tactical nuclear warfare. The place where a nuclear weapon was detonated completely turned into dust and the nearby location received significant destruction. Refugees, starvation, and diseases were all symptoms of this modern war. In a short period, it destroys humanity entirely. Everyone knew that if the war continued, no one would survive so they stopped the war without any victory.
When countries started to remove nuclear waste experienced uncontrolled mutation. At the same time, due to an attack by unknown militants, the mutated cells began to spread into major cities. The infected humans turned into zombies and humanity entered a biological apocalypse while the law and order of the government shattered in only a few days. Many people left the planet by exploring ships toward other planets to find a new world. However, most of the people couldn't do so and still fighting on the planet after all countries are dissolved.
Alex looked outside the window, the mega-metropolis already lost its liveliness. The once crowded streets were now empty without a soul in sight and replaced by zombies. He could see the occasional howl and scream from unknown creatures and sometimes guns fired in the distance. It's a fight between humans against zombies as well as humans against humans. He could feel the lurking danger and death in the atmosphere.
Soon after Nicolette asked him how he will transfer the good around here and Alex gave her some vague answers hiding his secret. When he tried to operate some of the equipment in the building, he found that they did not function properly and she explained that most of the equipment ceased to function due to the nuclear explosion. She asked to move somewhere else at this time but he asked her for a map of the city.
"I will send it to you. What's your EP?", Nicolette asked.
"What is that?", Alex asked.
"It's this thing. You don't have one?", she asked pointing to a watch-like computer in her arm.
"No. Can I buy one?", Alex smiled and asked.
"How can you roam around the city without this? Are you not afraid of radiation? Try this one.", she gave a confused look and threw one at him.
"Thank you. Where did you get this?", Alex put it on his wrist and asked.
"I found it from someone's dead body.", she replied and grinned.
Alex just shrugged and operated the EP following Nicolette. It displayed information in a 3D holographic clear projection of his biological stats and radiation level. She looked into it and she smirked with a dissatisfied expression. She said he was too weak and he quickly nodded. She thought about it and laughed out loud. When Nicolette opened her eyes the next morning, Alex placed a piece of bread in front of her. She quickly grabbed it and ate it.
"What do you want?", she asked after that.
"Want? Didn't you say I have to take care of your meals? This is the breakfast. Three meals a day and if you want to eat outside I will give a can for you.", Alex replied and gave her a can. She quickly took that too.
"Three times?", Nicolette got shocked and asked.
"Yeah. You don't want it?", Alex asked.
"I want it. Thank you.", Nicolette quickly replied.
"Alright.", Alex smirked and sat on the sofa. She finally finished her bread at last.
"What do you want to do now?", Nicolette asked looking at him.
"Where can we find lots of working technology around here?", Alex asked.
"A lot of survivor bases have them. That's the place, people consider fun even in this apocalypse.", Nicolette replied.
"Is it far from here?", Alex asked.
"One of them is not too far but a bit expensive. If we are visiting, we have to pay one energy unit of crystals or equivalent item to enter.", Nicolette replied.
"One energy unit of crystal, what is that?", Alex asked.
